Okay, I know, I know it's not time for the holidays, but can we talk about Mariah Carey for a second?
She just dropped her first full album in seven years.
We're going to talk about that on Commotion, but also we're going to celebrate 20 years as her iconic record, The Emancipation of Mimi.
For this episode and a whole lot more, you can find and follow Commotion with me, Alameen Abdul Mahmood, on YouTube or wherever you get your podcast.
hour. I'm Stephanie Skandaris. Donald Trump and regional leaders in the Middle East have signed a document
sealing the end of the war in Gaza. The U.S. President has convened a peace summit in Egypt to discuss
crucial next steps for the region. Some 20 world leaders are in attendance, including Prime Minister
Mark Carney. Trump says now is the time to leave behind old feuds and use the momentum of the deal to achieve
long-term peace.
It's so beautiful to see a new and beautiful day is rising, and now the rebuilding begins.
The rebuilding is maybe going to be the easiest part.
I think we've done a lot of the hardest part because the rest comes together.
We all know how to rebuild and we know how to build better than anybody in the world.
Trump says numerous countries have come forward to offer help with Gaza's reconstruction.
Regional leaders expect talks on the sidelines of today's summit could be critical to shaping a final agreement to end.
ending the war. In Israel, it's a day of jubilation as 20 surviving hostages return home after
spending two years in captivity. Breyer Stewart has more from Jerusalem. Across Israel jubilation,
people watched with tears in their eyes as 20 hostages were released and started to be reunited
with their family members. Some even received a call moments before. They spoke on video call
with their families as Hamas militants stood beside them.
The remains of an estimated 28 will start to be returned to Israel this afternoon.
Around 2,000 Palestinians are now being released from Israeli jails.
The vast majority were detained without charge after the war in Gaza began.
About 250 of those being released were serving life sentences for serious offenses.
In Jerusalem, Kerry Fried says she's no fan of Trump, but gives him credit.
credit for today and for making it happen. I think he's taking an early victory lap. We're not there
yet. No Israelis fooling themselves. We don't believe the war is over. Breyer Stewart, CBC News,
Jerusalem. The remains of four out of 28 hostages who died in Hamas captivity have now been
returned to Israel. Because of that, Israel is accusing Hamas of not living up to the terms of the
ceasefire and is demanding all of the bodies be released. Hamas has warned not all burial sites are
own and recovering the bodies could take time.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Anita Anand, has met India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi on her visit
to the country.
The trip is meant to strengthen ties after two years of diplomatic strain, and it builds on Modi's
visit to the G7 summit in Canada earlier this summer.
Officials in Mexico say the number of dead from last week's torrential rains now stands
at 64.
Dozens more remain missing.
The heavy rainfall caused rivers to overflow on central and southeastern Mexico, flooding homes, washing away roads, and cutting off entire communities.
President Claudia Shainbaum says some of them will not be accessed for days.
Parts of northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba are getting walloped by a snowstorm.
While some areas are beginning to dig out, others are bracing for more bad weather.
Helena Mahalek reports.
There's going to be a lot of tree removal required in order for the roads to be open.
Alyssa Bogdan is the owner of a hunting and fishing lodge in northern Manitoba.
A severe snowstorm has left much of the province, along with Saskatchewan, with closed highways and power outages, and a mess of downed trees.
We have a renter who asked me this morning who was shooting guns last night, and I said it wasn't guns shooting, it was trees falling.
David Fulton is a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
He says the snowfall in northern Manitoba won't be stopping anytime soon.
No, it's still snowing in Thompson.
So we're expecting another 10 to 15 there today.
Power restoration efforts are underway, but many highways remain closed.
