I'm Neil Hurland. Two hikers in British Columbia were attacked by a grizzly bear over the long weekend. One of them is in critical condition following the ordeal. The pair had to be airlifted to help from a mountainous area between Prince George and the Alberta border. Michelle Gomez reports. The hikers were attacked around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon. They were in a popular hiking area in the McGregor Mountain Range located northeast of Prince George. That's according to Amon MacArthur with the BC Conservation Officer Service.

He says trails have been closed while specialists investigate. It is marked at the trailhead site. BC Emergency Health Services says a critical care helicopter took the hikers to the Prince George Airport where they were then taken to hospital by ambulance. MacArthur says while investigators are still determining exactly what happened, he noted the hikers had safety gear. Always hiking groups, make noise, carry safety items with you, you know, noise makers, pepper sprays. Just make sure that you're aware of situation and have some sort of communication device while you're out hiking.

It could be your one lifeline. He says grizzly attacks are rare in BC. Michelle Gomez, CBC News, Vancouver. In Alberta, some 750,000 students are still not back to school. The teacher's strike in the province is entering its second week. Bargaining is set to resume today. As Julia Wong reports, the strike is causing Alberta families a lot of uncertainty. As they watch their kids have fun at this Edmonton indoor playground,

for many parents in Alberta, the teacher's strike is top of mind. It's not easy, but we're getting through it. Halshi Garito has two kids, a 6-year-old and a 14-year-old. Both have been out of school since last Monday. when 51,000 teachers walked off the job. Yeah, I just hope they can get into an agreement. So sometimes both sides have to compromise a little. And at the end of the date, it's for them and for the kids.

Bargaining resumes Tuesday. Teachers overwhelmingly rejected the last contract offer from their employer. The union says classroom sizes, more supports for students with complexities, and better pay are the main sticking points. The teachers union says it has brought proposals forward. spokesperson for Alberta's education minister says those are under review. Julia Wong, CBC News, Edmonton. Sudan's health care system is on the brink of total collapse with cholera, malaria, and dengue fever

spreading unchecked. As drug prices soar millions go without treatment, aid groups warn the health crisis is now as deadly as the war itself. Naba Moedin reports from Port Sudan. In Khartoum on other Sunnii cities, hospitals are overwhelmed, with thousands of new cases of malaria and dengue reported in just days. For two and a haviest, conditions have allowed the spread in what have become ideal breeding grounds for disease. Inside Udurman Hospital, dozens of patients lie under mosquito nets, including this 60-year-old woman in South Muhammad.

I suddenly had a fevered headache a few days after. to my return home, and it was diagnosed as dengue fever and malaria. The relief is slow despite the medication I get here. And it's not just dengue and malaria. Cholera, typhoid and diphtheria are also spreading fast. Mohamed Tijani, a government health official, says nearly 80% of health facilities are no longer functioning. Many damaged, looted or occupied by fighters.

The Toronto Blue Jays lost their second game last night against the Seattle Mariners in the American League Championship Series. Seattle beat Toronto 10 to 3.
