Starting point is 00:00:39 u.s president donald trump's trade war a new tariff announced last month is now in effect it's a global 10% tariff on all softwood lumber and timber entering the u.s that's in addition to a 35% duty on canadian softwood already in place some finished wood products like cabinets vanities and upholstered furniture are also included. There's a lot of uncertainty over the next steps for Gaza. Phase one of the ceasefire deal included 20 Israeli hostages freed by Hamas. But grieving Israeli families are angry that the remains of only four out of 28 deceased hostages have been handed over. Breyer Stewart reports from Jerusalem. Outside of the Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv, a small crowd looks on as vans pull up carrying the remains of four hostages that have been returned from Gaza.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Under the deal, Israel is expecting the bodies of an estimated 24 additional hostages. No indication of the timeline yet. Daniel Lifshitz's grandparents were taken hostage. His grandmother was released, his grandfather was killed, and his body was returned earlier this year. But we have to make sure that some leverages, that rebuilding Gaza or anything else will not be taken until everyone are back home. In Gaza, the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is holding, but there have been clashes between Hamas and local clans. And there are reports that Hamas has executed a few individuals that it's accused of collaborating with Israel. Breyer-Stewart, CBC News, Jerusalem.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Police in Bogota say two Venezuelan activists who are now living in Colombia have been shot, and it appears to have been a targeted attack. National police say the men were fired on as they left the building together. Yendri Omar Velazquez Rodriguez is the founder of the Venezuelan Observatory of the LGBT-plus violence. And Luis Alejandro Peche-Artega is a political analyst. Both men say they left Venezuela because they were being persecuted by the Maduro regime. There are calls for Colombia's Attorney General to investigate who is responsible for the, attack. Two hikers in British Columbia were attacked by a grizzly bear over the long weekend.
Starting point is 00:02:58 One of them is in critical condition following the ordeal. The pair had to be airlifted to help from a mountainous area between Prince George and the Alberta border. Michelle Gomez reports. The hikers were attacked around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon. They were in a popular hiking area in the McGregor Mountain Range located northeast of Prince George. That's according to A.man McArthur with the BC Conservation Officer Service. He says trails have been closed while specialists investigate. It is marked at the trailhead site. BC Emergency Health Services says a critical care helicopter
Starting point is 00:03:33 took the hikers to the Prince George Airport where they were then taken to hospital by ambulance. McArthur says while investigators are still determining exactly what happened, he noted the hikers had safety here. Always hiking groups make noise, carry safety items with you. you know, noisemakers, pepper sprays, just make sure that you're aware of situation and have some sort of communication device while you're out hiking.
