Starting point is 00:00:34 From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Claude Fagg. Israel says it will not reopen the rafa border between Gaza and Egypt under the Donald Trump peace plan. The crossing was to open tomorrow. Officials say the decision is to sanction Hamas for not returning all the bodies of dead hostages. And the flow of aid into the Palestinian enclave will be reduced. News. Breyer Stewart reports from Jerusalem. Outside of the Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv, a small crowd looks on as vans pull up, carrying the remains of four hostages that have been returned from Gaza.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Under the deal, Israel is expecting the bodies of an estimated 24 additional hostages. No indication of the timeline yet. Daniel Lifshitz's grandparents were taken hostage. His grandmother was released, his grandfather was killed, and his body was returned earlier this year. But we have to make sure that some leverages and rebuilding Gaza or anything else will not be taken until everyone are back home. In Gaza, the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is holding, but there have been clashes between Hamas and local clans. And there are reports that Hamas has executed a few individuals that it's accused of collaborating with Israel. Breyer Stewart, CBC News, Jerusalem.
Starting point is 00:01:55 Canadian lumber is taking another hit from U.S. President Trump's trade war. A new tariff announced last month is now in effect. It is a global 10% tariff on all softwood lumber and timber entering the U.S. That's in addition to a 35% duty on Canadian softwood already in place. Some finish wood products, including cabinets, vanities, and upholstered furniture are also included. And they'll face a 25% tariff that will increase again on January the 1st. India and Canada are working on rebuilding their ties through economic diplomacy. Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister, Anita Anand, is wrapping up a two-day visit to India. It's an effort to strengthen bilateral investments after years of tension over allegations of India's involvement in the murder of a Canadian citizen. Our South Asia correspondent Salima Shivji sat down with Anand in Mumbai. I'm pleased to welcome you to India. A flurry of pleasantries kicked off the diplomatic. visit, the first official trip to India for Canada's foreign minister, Anita Anand, before she and her

When then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of playing a role in the killing of a Canadian sick activist on Canadian soil. New Delhi called the allegations absurd. But now that Mark Carney, has taken over as Prime Minister, there's been an adjustment on the diplomatic front, and the world has changed, Annen says. We are in a moment where economic diplomacy, pragmatism is of crucial importance. The focus now is on trade, investment in critical minerals, and AI technology.

Police in Bogota say two Venezuelan activists who are now living in Colombia, have been shot, and it appears to have been a targeted attack. National police say the men were fired on as they left the building together. Yendri Omar Velazquez is founder of the Venezuelan Observatory of LGBTQ plus violence, and Luis Alejandro Peche-Artega is a political analyst. Both men say they left Venezuela because they were being persecuted by the Maduro regime.

The Toronto Blue Jays dropped game two last night against the Seattle Mariners in the American League Championship Series. The M's routed the Jays 10-3, grabbing a 2-0 series lead in the best of seven. The series now moves to Seattle for the next three games beginning tomorrow night. And that is your world this hour.
