Starting point is 00:00:38 The mayor of Brampton, Ontario, says Stalantus is being bullied by the Trump administration. The global automaker announced plans to move its production of the Jeep Compass from the Toronto area to the U.S. Silantis says none of the 3,000 workers at the Brampton plant will lose their jobs. Thomas Dagla has more. We are investing in the United States, 13,000. billion dollars. Starting point is 00:01:20 Stalantus plant in Brampton, Ontario. The company says in a statement its moving production of its Jeep compass to Illinois, even though its Brampton operation had been temporarily shut down to be retooled specifically to build that Jeep model. Brampton's mayor, Patrick Brown. We're disappointed that they would be bullied by the Trump administration. I thought there would be a greater obligation and loyalty to Canada. The Brampton plant had 3,000 employees before all were laid off last year for the retooling. Their future now is unclear.
Starting point is 00:01:52 Thomas Dagg, CBC News, Toronto. There is a political sea change in Newfoundland and Labrador, a win by the progressive of conservatives has put an end to a decade-long liberal government. PC leader Tony Wakeham told CBC his priorities will be health care, lowering taxes, and more funding for police. And he says he will order a new assessment and a referendum on the multi-billion dollar Churchill Falls' hydroelectric deal with Quebec. Before I sign off in any more 50-year deals or beyond, I'm going to make sure that we get it right. And once we get that final negotiation done,

The memorandum of understanding with Quebec was inked by the previous liberal government. Quebec's premier, Francois Lago, insists the deal benefits both provinces. Striking support staff at Ontario colleges will be back on the job tomorrow. Their union announced a tentative deal with the province this morning. Starting point is 00:03:05 has been sentenced to at least 25 years in prison. Claire Levec died last year in the remote Shetland Islands of Scotland. Julia Wong has more. This Levec died a squalid death of quite unimaginable, multifaceted violence. A stinging rebuke from Judge Paul Artherson. After a jury in Scotland found 41-year-old Aaron Pearson, a Canadian with family ties to the U.K., guilty of murdering his girlfriend. Claire Lavec was living in Edmonton and traveled to the remote Shetland Islands with Pearson in 2023.
Starting point is 00:03:38 During the trial, court heard an emergency call where Pearson admitted he stabbed the 24-year-old dozens of times, then drowned her. Levec's cousin, Hope Ingram, was in Edinburgh for the trial, which she called long and exhausting. She thanked the jury for listening to the graphic evidence. Because of this, we were able to get justice for Claire. The conviction comes with an automatic life sentence. Pearson must serve 25 years before he's eligible for parole. Julia Wong, CBC News, Edmonton. Israel says its mission is not complete until Hamas returns the bodies of some 20 Israeli hostages still in Gaza.

Government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian says a body returned overnight did not match any of Israel's registered captives. In response, Israel is cutting the number of aid trucks. It agreed to allow into Gaza by 50%. It's also keeping the raffa border crossing closed. The UN is urging Israel to remove aid restrictions. And that is your world this hour.
