Starting point is 00:01:02 for championed when he was chair around the Premier's table. Federal and provincial justice and public safety ministers are meeting in Alberta today. And this morning in Toronto, Mark Carney will join a pair of his other ministers to announce new measures to fight crime, including a preview of long-promised bail reform legislation that's expected in the House of Commons before the end of the month. Janice McGregor, CBC News, Ottawa. Canadian home sales declined last month for the first time since the spring. That's according to the latest report from the Canadian Real Estate Association. Lisa Sching explains.
Starting point is 00:01:36 September's home sales were down by 1.7% compared with August. That ended a series of gains that started back in April. The reason for that slump, fewer people buying homes in cities like Greater Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, and Montreal. But the greater Toronto area and Winnipeg seeing sales tick up. And even though the Bank of Canada lowered interest rates in September, the Canadian Real Estate Association's senior economist, Sean Cathcart, says we might not see the effects of that rate cut until later in the fall. Starting point is 00:02:14 sprang to life. Even with this dip, the number of sales was still up compared with the last several years. In fact, up 5.2% compared with the same time last year and the highest it's been since 2021. Lisa Sheng, CBC News, Toronto. In Gaza, the future of the ceasefire is getting cloudier as Hamas fails to return all deceased hostages to Israel. Two more bodies were repatriated last night, but more than a dozen remains are still unaccounted for. Meanwhile, Israelis from one community are mourning their loss. The leader of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, is warning U.S. President Donald Trump not to carry out what he's calling CIA coups. Maduro made the comment amid rising tension between the United States and Venezuela. On Wednesday, Trump publicly confirmed that he authorized the CIA to conduct covert operations in Venezuela. But when asked by a reporter if he would try to assassinate President Maduro, Trump refused to say.
