from cbc news the world this hour i'm gina louise phillips ukraine's president is heading to the white
house today volatimier zelensky will meet donald trump with the u.s president dangling the
possibility of supplying tomahawk cruise missiles to ukraine mike crawley sets the stage
tomahawk is a vicious weapon donald trump's meeting with the ukrainian leader comes a day after the
U.S. president spoke with Russia's Vladimir Putin. I did actually say, would you mind if I gave a
couple of thousand tomahawks to your opposition? This is part of Trump's newest push to try to
bring an end to Russia's war against Ukraine. Trump's role in brokering a ceasefire in Gaza has
launched a narrative that he could replicate that success in Ukraine, but experts say the two
wars have no real parallels. We are talking about very different types of conflicts. Maria Snegovaia
is with the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a think tank in Washington.
Trump's ability to exert pressure on Israel, obviously, is much, much higher than the one he's able to exert on Russia.
After today's meeting with Vladimir Zelensky, Trump says he plans to meet Putin in Hungary in a couple of weeks.

The remains of an Edmonton teenager have been found, ending a month-long search by family members and police.
Samuel Bird went missing in June.
Sam Sampson has the details.
I'm glad he's home.
It's bloody painful.
It's what it is.
News that Samuel Bird's remains have been found
hit Alden Boyces hard.
The volunteer spent months
working with grassroots efforts
to find the 14-year-old.
My wife and I, we've been boots on the ground
doing what we can.
Volunteers came from across Alberta
and other provinces to search for the teenager.
On Thursday, Bird's mother thanked
those volunteers in a Facebook post.
Last week, search and rescue teams combed through an area of bush and farmland about 160 kilometers west of Edmonton.
Edmonton homicide investigators believed someone took bird's body from the city, drove the main highway west, and hid birds' body not far from road or trail access.
On Wednesday, police arrested 38-year-old Brian Farrell. The next day, investigators found birds remains.
Farrell is charged with second-degree murder and interfering with a body in relation to birds' death.
He's facing other charges too.

In Surrey, BC, a cafe has been targeted by gunmen for a third time.
Police say the shooting appears to be part of extortion-related violence,
which is targeting people in the South Asian community.
Ian McDonald speaks for Surrey Police.
The only silver lining in this very disturbing sort of trend
and targeting of this business is that none of the staff have been hurt.
Certainly this has the earmarks of extortion.
ourselves in terms of Surrey Police Service, as well as the provincial extortion task force,
already have eyes on this investigation, and we plan to move it forward.
There have been 65 extortion-related cases and 35 associated shootings in Surrey this year.
Alberta and Ontario have had similar incidents.
While the Toronto Blue Jays have now tied the American League Championship Series at 2,
with an 8-2 win over the Seattle Mariners in game 4.
Jamie Strachan has more from Seattle.
Who says home field matters.
After dropping the first two games in Toronto,
the Blue Jays have evened up this American League Championship series at 2,
dominating the hometown Mariners 8-2 in a game that left the Seattle crowd stunned.
The Jays have now scored the Mariners 21 to 6 over the last two games.
On Thursday, another set of heroes for the Jays.
First, 41-year-old Matt Scherzer turned back the clock.
Giving up two runs over five and two third innings, his best performance in weeks.
At the plate, the story was shortstop Andres Jimenez,
who hit a game turning two-run home run and drove in four runs.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also added a home run.
The Jays looked to take the lead in this Best of Seven series on Friday,
sending Ace Kevin Gosman to the mound.
Win or lose, this series is definitely coming back to Toronto.
Jamie Strash and CBC News, Seattle.
