Amazon Web Services is struggling to recover after a major disruption.
An outage earlier this morning downed some of the world's most popular websites, services, and apps.
Nora Young reports.
Millions of Internet users trying to check social media, do banking, and even order food,
were out of luck Monday morning as companies globally that rely on Amazon Web Services
were either down completely or experiencing slowdowns.
Global giants including Facebook, Snapchat, cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase,
and UK banks were among those affected.
AWS provides cloud services for a broad range of websites and apps.
Amazon stated that a number of AWS services experienced network connectivity issues on the U.S. East Coast.
Technology analyst and journalist Karmie Levy says that while a global outage on this scale is incredibly rare,
this should be a wake-up call about relying on a small number of providers.
It's dominated by three companies.
If we're putting all of our eggs into so few baskets,
well, when one of those baskets has a problem,
it's going to affect a lot of people.
Services are gradually coming back online.
Amazon says it continues to investigate.

The federal liberals plan to create a financial crimes agency
to protect Canadians from scams.
The measure is part of a national anti-fraud strategy
announced today by finance minister Francois Philippe Champagne.
As fram, because more sophisticated, more Canadian,
are being impacted. Fraud is an issue across sectors, as fraudsters increasingly use text
messages, emails, and social media to target victims.
Details of the new strategy will be included in the upcoming federal budget on November 4th.
Champagne says the government will suggest Banking Act amendments.
The aim is to help protect seniors and give them more control over who can access their accounts.
Canadians lost an estimated $643 million to fraud last year,
nearly three times as much as in 2020.
The Lisbon tram that crashed in September had a faulty steel cable,
according to a preliminary report.
Portugal's rail accident authority said the cable did not meet the standards
of the city's public transport operator and wasn't installed,
according to manufacturer instructions.
The report also recommends all of the city's transportation.
stay out of service until they can be operated safely.
A more detailed report is expected next year.
Sixteen people, including two Canadians, died in the crash.
Twenty-one others were injured.
The world-famous Louvre Museum remains closed after a heist this weekend.
The French Justice Minister says all French people feel robbed today,
and he says the fact the crime was so brazen gives France a deplorable image.
Basque thieves used a mechanical lift and power tools to break into the museum in broad daylight.
They escaped on scooters with France's crown jewels.
The fear is the criminals will break the priceless artifacts apart to be sold in small parts.
It's game seven tonight in Toronto for the Blue Jays, a game with a trip to the World Series on the line.
As we hear from Jamie Strash and the Blue Jays have been in this spot before, but not for a while.
NBC Sports presents the 7th and December.
It's been 40 years since the Toronto Blue Jays last played in a game 7.
The Jays lost at home to the Kansas City Royals with a ticket to the 1985 World Series on the line.
Four decades later, another game 7 at home, this time against the Seattle Mariners.
For the winner, a date with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.
So far, this series has seen a little bit of everything.
Both teams winning multiple games on the road, the Jays forcing a deciding game,
seven with a resounding win at home in game six.
Shane Bieber will be the starting pitcher tonight.
The perfect spot for the former Sy Young Award winner, says Jay's broadcaster, Dan Shulman.
Shane Bieber is not going to be intimidated by the moment.
If the Jay's win, game one of the World Series will be Friday night in Toronto.
Jamie Strash and CBC News, Toronto.
And that is The World This Hour.
