trade war with the united states in response to an ad campaign ontario has been running in the u.s president
donald trump has called off all trade talks with canada katie simpson reports
High tariffs inevitably lead to retaliation by foreign countries.
The offending ad features highlights of a 1987 speech by U.S. President Ronald Reagan, which makes the case against tariffs.
After a complaint by Reagan's Presidential Foundation that Ontario did not get permission to use the audio and video,
Donald Trump made his stunning announcement.
Writing on social media, in all caps, all trade negotiations with Canada are hereby terminated.
He called the ad fraudulent and fake, accusing Canada of running the spot as a way to influence the U.S. Supreme Court ahead of a hearing next month that will determine whether most of Trump's tariffs are legal.
Because of tariffs, the money pouring into our country, the plants that are opening.
Ontario spent $75 million to run the ad on major American broadcasters.
This comes at a pivotal moment in trade talks, a time when Canada had thought progress was being made in an effort to lower some tariffs.
Momentum that is now stalled. Katie Simpson, CBC News, Washington.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford is responding to the Ronald Reagan Foundation claim that the province misrepresented the former U.S. President's comments.
In a statement to CBC News, Ford's office says President Ronald Reagan knew and spoke directly to Americans that tariffs hurt the U.S. economy, workers, and families.
Ford's office goes on to say that the commercial uses an unedited excerpt from one of President Reagan's public
addresses, which is available through public domain.
Industry Minister Melanie Jolie says General Motors has 15 days now to provide an update

Toronto Blue J fans, get your engines.
running. It is World Series time. Game one tonight at Toronto, the Jays against the L.A. Dodgers.
Jamie Strachan has the latest. I'm just thankful and humbled. Toronto Blue Jays manager, John Schneider,
says it's natural for his team to be feeling some nerves ahead of game one of the World Series,
the first in Canada since 1993. Even though the Blue Jays won more games than the Los Angeles Dodgers,
it's Toronto who are the underdogs. I think the one thing we cannot do is look over there
and say that is Goliath.
The team's magical, unexpected run to the World Series has fans delirious.
The J's shop at the Rogers Center barely able to keep series-related items in stock.
We're not going to know the next time the Gs are going to make it, right?
Players like Davis Schneider and Addison Barger are embracing what could be a once-in-a-care
opportunity.
It's great to have a whole country kind of behind you.
You don't know how many times you'll make it to the World Series in your life.
First pitch is just after 8 o'clock Eastern, a nation of baseball fans,
