Starting point is 00:00:43 u.s president donald trump has called off all trade talks with canada this latest development in the canada u.s trade war is a direct response to the ontario government and its campaign against the trump tariffs ashley burke reports Premier Doug Ford recently launched a $75 million ad campaign in the U.S. High tariffs inevitably lead to retaliation by foreign countries. This ad uses former U.S. President Ronald Reagan's radio address from 1987. Market shrink and collapse. The Ronald Reagan Foundation claims the ad misrepresents his address
Starting point is 00:01:21 and says Ontario didn't have permission to use it. Trump posted on true social that based on what he called egregious behavior, the trade negotiations with Canada are hereby terminated. All of this comes after Prime Minister Mark Carney suggested early Thursday if trade talks fail, he'll act. Let's be clear about if we ultimately don't make progress in these various sectors, we're going to do what's necessary to protect our workers. Carney said he wasn't ready to do that yet.
Starting point is 00:01:51 The question now, will this new development change his mind? Ashley Burke, CBC News, Ottawa. Premier Ford is responding to the claim by the Reagan Foundation that Ontario is misrepresenting the former U.S. President's comments. In a statement to CBC News, Ford's office says the commercial uses an unedited excerpt from one of President Reagan's public addresses, which is available through public domain. Still with trade news, Prime Minister Mark Carney leaves today for a three-country visit to Asia. It's essentially a trade mission, with the Prime Minister hoping along the way to land a meeting, with the president of China. Rafi Bujiccanian has more. Senior government officials say that at the summit in Malaysia, Canada hopes to work on a future free trade agreement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. President Donald Trump will also be at ASEAN and at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in South Korea. I look forward to seeing the president in Asia at APEC. Officials say Carney is aiming for a one-on-one with China's president Xi Jinping as he tries to thaw a frosty relationship with Asia's largest economy less than a year after a public inquiry into foreign interference found it

Carney's team says Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has just returned from a successful visit to Beijing and he won't back down from defending Canadian democracy while pursuing a strategic relationship with China. Toronto Bujay's manager, John Schneider, says it's natural for his team to be feeling some nerves ahead of Game 1 of the World Series, the first in Canada since 1993, even though the Blue Jays won more games than the Los Angeles Dodgers, it's Toronto who are the underdogs. I think the one thing we cannot do is look over there and say that is Goliath. The team's magical, unexpected run to the World Series has fans delirious.

Players like Davis Schneider and Addison Barger are embracing. what could be a once in a career opportunity. It's great to have a whole country kind of behind you.
