Starting point is 00:00:00 This ascent isn't for everyone. You need grit to climb this high this often. You've got to be an underdog that always over-delivers. You've got to be 6,500 hospital staff, 1,000 doctors, all doing so much with so little. You've got to be Scarborough. Defined by our uphill battle and always striving towards new heights. And you can help us keep climbing.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Donate at lovescarbro.cairbo. borough.ca. From CBC News, it's the world this hour. I'm Joe Cummings. Prime Minister Mark Carney is offering a calm and measured response to the latest development in the Canada-U.S. Trade War. And it's a significant development. In a late-night social media post, U.S. President Donald Trump

Starting point is 00:01:35 featured the voice of former U.S. Republican President Ronald Reagan. Throughout the world, there's a growing realization that the weight of prosperity for all nations is rejecting protectionist legislation and promoting fair and free competition. Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who paid for the ad, says, Reagan knew that Canada and the United States were stronger together.
Starting point is 00:01:57 David Thornton, CBC News, Ottawa. Air Canada has announced its cutting 400 management jobs. The move follows a three-day strike by more than 10,000 flight attendants in August that led to more than 3,000 flight cancellations. It's estimated the labor dispute cost Air Canada close to $400 million.
Starting point is 00:02:17 However, the airlines says the cuts are the result of what it's calling routine corporate operations. The Quebec government is tabled. legislation that calls for a new compensation system for the province's doctors. Bill too is aimed at forcing an end to an ongoing dispute with doctors' federations. Among other things, it would introduce performance targets and would impose penalties for doctors who decide to practice elsewhere or in the private system. The GPs Federation is saying many of its members are preparing to leave
Starting point is 00:02:48 the province or retire if the bill becomes law. With Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the table, British Prime Minister Kier Starrmer is hosting the latest meeting of the Coalition of the Willing. The coalition is a group of countries, including Canada, united in their support for the Ukrainian war effort. Anna Cunningham has the latest now from London. British Prime Minister Kirstama is expected to urge Ukraine's allies to act to take Russian oil and gas off the global market. It follows U.S. sanctions targeting two big Russian oil companies. Also, on the agenda in London later, will be the supply of long-range missiles to Ukraine.

Game one of this year's World Series goes tonight in Toronto. It's the Blue Jays against the defending champion L.A. Dodgers
Starting point is 00:04:07 who are heavily favored by most baseball pundits. The Dodger lineup includes at least three future Hall of Famers, including Japanese superstar Sheo Otani. But Blue Jay manager, John Schneider, will not be intimidated. That is a beatable baseball team that has its flaws and that has its really, really good strengths. How we expose each of them will determine who wins the series. I'll say it till the day I die, I'll put this group of 26 up against anybody. Over the course of their storied history, the Dodger franchise has won eight World Series titles.
Starting point is 00:04:42 The Blue Jays have two championships to their credit. Game time tonight for Game 1 is 8 o'clock Eastern. And that is the world this hour. For CBC News, I'm Joe Cummings.
