prime minister mark carney is in malaysia attending a summit of the association of southeast
asian nations trying to make the case that in the face of global economic uncertainty
canada remains a dependable trading partner murray brewster has more from koala lampore
carney's keep calm and carry-on approach was on display as he pitched ossean leaders on closer economic
with Canada. Even still, there was a subtle edge to his remarks.
We value a rules-based system. We respect trade agreements in the rule of law. We value the free
exchange of goods, capital, and ideas. Carney's poker face, however, stands in contrast to some
of the leading voices in Canada's business community. In a trade war, you need a general,
not 13 of them. We've got to pull our own act together here. Goldie Hider, the president of the
Business Council of Canada. While the Ontario government ad didn't help,
Hyder says it's not entirely to blame for the latest outburst by Trump.
Heider says it's a reflection of deeper American frustration with Canada,
some of which on policies that have nothing to do with trade.
We did the Palestine announcement. We've done it, the ICJ.
We're diversifying. But if you're in the United States of America,
you're saying we're your number one customer, but you've been to Europe five times.
Murray Brewster, CBC News, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia.
Specialized teams from the Red Cross in Egypt have been allowed into Gaza
to help with the search for the bodies of deceased Israeli hostages.
Shasbidrosian is an Israeli government spokesperson.
The team is using between two to three excavator machines
and two to three trucks to search for our deceased hostages.
Now, the Red Cross and the Egyptian team are allowed entry
beyond the IDF's yellow line position into Gaza territory
to conduct the search for our hostages.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces say they carried out what they call a target
strike on an individual in Central Gaza, they accused the person of planning to attack Israeli
forces in the occupied territory. Voters in Nunavut will elect their next territorial government
tomorrow. But the question is, how many will actually turn out? As Juanita Taylor tells us,
Nunavut has seen a decline in the number of people voting since the territory was born in 1999.
Maggie, how are you feeling about this election? Pretty positive about it because I feel great.
that I will vote.
Maggie Amarwalik from Senegal says she will go to the polls to make her vote count in Nunavut's
seventh general election, and so will Iqalwit Tina Kakki.
I hope the turnout is greater. We're always pressing for more voters to come out.
Voter turnout has been steadily declining since the first Nunavut general election in 1999.
Manitou Thompson was one of Nunavut's first MLAs.
Thompson says the government's slow progress on important issues,
like the high cost of living and a housing crisis is fueling voter apathy.
They're not going out anymore because they're not seeing any changes.
Tina Kakik has some words of advice as Nunavu Mute heads to the polls on October 27th.
Get out and vote.

The World Series shifts to Los Angeles with the Blue Jays working to shake off last night's loss to the L.A. Dodgers.
Jays manager John Schneider spoke this past hour about the need to
rebound. At this point, you know, it's going to be all hands on deck. You know, these guys are
going to, I think everyone will be able to throw three days in a row. Starting pitching is going
to be important for both sides, for sure. And guys that can throw multiple innings are going
to be important in these next three days. But I think especially against this team, you want to
try to wear down their starters and get into their pen. The series is tied at one game
apiece. Game three goes tomorrow night with veteran Jay's pitcher Max Scherzer set to start
for Canada's team. The BC General Employees Union says it is
reached a tentative agreement with the province ending an eight-week strike involving more than 25,000
public service workers. The union says the deal addresses wages, affordability, and respect for
frontline public service workers. It offers a 3% wage increase in each of the four years.
The union says workers will get a chance to vote over the coming days. And that is your world this hour.
For CBC News, I'm Mike Miles.
Thank you.
