from minister mark carney says he was offered no opportunity to speak with u.s president
donald trump at this weekend's a sea and trade summit in koala lampur trump has now left the summit
and carney says it appears the snub is related to the anti-tariff ad campaign ontario has been running in the
United States. But Carney insists he didn't come to the summit to talk trade with the U.S.
The Canada-Azian relationship is full of potential. This is a region of nearly 700 million
consumers with a market worth over $5 trillion. It's already Canada's second largest
trading partner with over $260 billion in two-way merchandise trade alone. Yet, even at
those levels, it still only represents about 10% of our exports.
Carney says he's looking to finalize a new Canadian-Azian free trade agreement by next year.
He says it could add more than a billion dollars a year to the Canadian economy.
From Kuala Lampur, Karnina flies this week to Singapore and then to South Korea.
We're expecting the Alberta government to table back to work legislation today
that would send the province's 51,000 striking teachers back to the classroom.
They've been off the job now for three weeks.
And Gil McCowan, the president of the Alberta Federation of Labor,
says if the province makes good on its legislative threat,
the ramifications will be felt right across the country.
If we have a provincial government that uses a notwithstanding clause
to crush the rights of workers, especially the right to strike,
then other governments, especially conservative governments and other provinces,
we'll see that as a precedent.
It's not clear yet how much longer the teachers will have on the picket line
if the back-to-work legislation is tabled today.
Medical analysts across the country are marking the one-year anniversary
of one of the biggest measles outbreaks in decades.
And their warning, it could easily happen again,
especially with Canada on the verge of losing its international status
as a measles-free country.
Lauren Pelley has more.
I think it's inevitable that there will be more cases of measles in Canada.
One year after Canada declared a measles outbreak,
new infections have died down,
but concern about the future remains high.
McMaster University immunologist Don Bodesh said
childhood vaccination rates have dropped in recent years,
while entire pockets of the country remain unprotected.
She's among those calling for a national vaccine registry
for better tracking to help target public health efforts.
It is shocking that Canada is one of the few countries in the G7 that doesn't have such a thing.
If chains of measles transmission continue past October,
it's also possible Canada could lose its measles elimination status from the World Health Organization.
Quite frankly, if we were to lose our status, it's embarrassing.
It's embarrassing at an international level.
But Toronto Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Isaac Bogosh, says that outcome isn't a sure thing.
He said more targeted outreach to under-vaccinated communities could help stop the spread of one of the world's most contagious diseases.

Now to the baseball story, and it's game three of the World Series.
It goes tonight in California with the Dodgers at home against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The best of seven is tied at one win apiece.
manager John Schneider says the game plan is pretty straightforward.
At this point, you know, it's going to be all hands on deck.
You know, these guys are going to, I think everyone will be able to throw three days in a row.
Starting pitching is going to be important for both sides, for sure.
And guys that can throw multiple innings are going to be important in these next three days.
But I think especially against this team, you want to try to wear down their starters and get into their pen.
Veteran, Max Scher, will be on the mound for the Jays tonight for game three.
Right-Hander Tyler Glasnow starts for the Dodgers, who are hosting.
the next three games of the fall classic at Dodger Stadium at Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles.
