Starting point is 00:00:45 the charitable organization says monthly visits in march of this year were up by more than five percent over twenty twenty four and visits have nearly doubled compared to the months leading up to the pandemic neal hetherington is with Daily Bread Food Bank, and he says these numbers will only keep growing until larger societal issues are addressed. The first is the lack of affordable housing. We get that solved. Then we start to see a reduction, the number of people that need the food bank. The second is income supports. We want to make sure that the Ontario Disability Support Program is appropriate and that the Canada Disability Program is wholly adequate so that if you're living with a disability, you're not legislated to live in poverty. The news study says one-third of those now using food banks across the country are children, and one in five are working adults. Prime Minister Mark Carney says he was offered no opportunity to speak with U.S. President Donald Trump at this weekend's Trade Summit in Kuala Lampur. Trump has now left the summit, and Carney says it appears the cold shoulder is related to an anti-tariff ad campaign.
Starting point is 00:01:52 Ontario has been running in the United States. But Carney insists he didn't come to the summit to talk trade with the U.S. The Canada-Azian relationship is full of potential. This is a region of nearly 700 million consumers, with a market worth over $5 trillion. It's already Canada's second largest trading partner with over $260 billion in two-way merchandise trade alone. Yet, even at those levels, it still only represents about 10% of our exports. Carney says he's looking to finalize a new Canada-A-N-Free Trade Agreement within the next year. He said it potentially could add more than a billion dollars a year to the Canadian economy.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Medical analysts across the country are marking the one-year anniversary of one of the biggest measles outbreaks in decades. And they're warning it could easily happen again, especially with Canada now on the verge of losing its international status as a measles-free country. Lauren Pelley has more. I think it's inevitable that there will be more cases of measles in Canada. One year after Canada declared a measles outbreak, new infection. have died down, but concern about the future remains high. McMaster University immunologist Don Bodesh said childhood vaccination rates have dropped in recent years, while entire pockets of the country remain unprotected.
Starting point is 00:03:12 She's among those calling for a national vaccine registry for better tracking to help target public health efforts. It is shocking that Canada is one of the few countries in the G7 that doesn't have such a thing. If chains of measles transmission continue past October, it's also possible Canada could lose its means. easel's elimination status from the World Health Organization. Quite frankly, if we were to lose our status, it's embarrassing. It's embarrassing at an international level. But Toronto infectious disease specialist, Dr. Isaac Bogosh, says that outcome isn't a sure thing.
Starting point is 00:03:42 He said more targeted outreach to under-vaccinated communities could help stop the spread of one of the world's most contagious diseases. Lauren Pelley, CBC News, Toronto. Game three of the World Series goes tonight in Los Angeles with the Dodgers at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. The best of seven is tied at one win apiece, and Toronto manager John Schneider says the game plan is pretty straightforward. At this point, you know, it's going to be all hands on deck. You know, these guys are going to, I think everyone will be able to throw three days in a row.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Starting pitching is going to be important for both sides, for sure. And guys that can throw multiple innings are going to be important in these next three days. But I think especially against this team, you want to try to wear down their starters and get into their pen. The next three games of the series that we played in Los Angeles, veteran start. Starter Max Scherzer starts tonight for the Jays. It's Tyler Glasnow for the Dodgers. Glassnow has been almost untouchable so far in the postseason. Over 13 innings of work, he's allowed just one earned run while rocking up 18 strikeouts.
