The cut could help boost growth in the Canadian economy, but the central bank is also waiting for next week's federal budget. Peter Armstrong reports. Bank of Canada, Governor Tiff Macklin, has made it clear. There's only so much the central bank. can do to help Canada get out of the current crisis? While monetary policy can't offset the negative
Starting point is 00:01:06 effects of tariffs, positive structural reform could. Interest rates may lessen the burden for households and businesses, but MacLam says what's needed now is fiscal policy, the building of major infrastructure projects to help diversify the Canadian economy. We could have done this without U.S. tariffs. But the loss of incomes and growth now makes this all the more imperative. all the more imperative because even if Canada has avoided an outright recession, Desjardins, Deputy Chief Economist Randall Bartlett, says the economy is only forecast to grow by a tiny amount. So the Canadian economy is quite weak. So he says the bank will likely cut rates this morning, but also make it clear it's waiting to see where and how aggressively the federal government spends in next week's budget. Peter Armstrong, CBC News, Toronto.

The Toronto Blue Jays beat the L.A. Dodgers last night in game four of the World Series. Final score, 6-2. The CBC's Thomas Dagler reports from Los Angeles. Well, what a difference 24 hours makes after that marathon, six and a half hour defeat to the L.A. Dodgers here at Dodgers Stadium in game three. The Jays bounced back in game four and made relatively quick work of their opponents. Shohay Otani on the mound, starting pitching for the Dodgers. But Shohei Otani, the batter was mostly neutralized by the Blue Jays going 0 for 3 at the plate. Then in the seventh inning, a flurry of offense from the Blue Jays. The Jays would never look back after that. A good pitching out. as well by starting pitcher Shane Bieber and the Jays have tied up the series at two games each,
