Starting point is 00:00:00 This ascent isn't for everyone. You need grit to climb this high this often. You've got to be an underdog that always over-delivers. You've got to be 6,500 hospital staff, 1,000 doctors, all doing so much with so little. You've got to be Scarborough. Defined by our uphill battle and always striving towards new heights. And you can help us keep climbing.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Donate at lovescarbro.cairbo. From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Angie Seth. The U.S.S. President says plans to test American nuclear weapons will get underway immediately. Donald Trump says that's because Russia and China are catching up. We have more than anybody. But I see them testing. I say, well, if they're going to test, I guess we have to test. Trump says nuclear weapons will be tested on a equal basis with Russia and China.
Starting point is 00:00:57 It has been nearly three decades since a military superpower last conducted a known nuclear weapons test. The latest U.S. directive has raised fears it will trigger another nuclear arms race. It comes as Russia tested a nuclear-capable missile and a nuclear power torpedo earlier this week. Meantown, the Trump administration is slashing the number of refugees, United States will admit, from 120,000 to just 7,500, and says most of those accepted will be white South Africans. The White House published the information in the Federal Registry. Back here at home, or with our Prime Minister, I should say. Prime Minister Mark Carney is in South Korea ahead of the opening of the Apex Summit tomorrow,

It got to be one of the two preferred bidders by submitting a detailed $20 to $24 billion unsolicited proposal to the federal government
Starting point is 00:02:02 just before last spring's election. South Korea put political weight behind the bid. The country's prime minister accompanied Mark Carney on the visit to the sprawling naval facility. There's one submarine in the water, and today it was flying a Canadian flag. Another is up on the skids in a construction shed. It's a not-so-sustle demonstration by the Koreans that their production lines are active, and they can deliver four submarines to Canada by 2035. the Navy's deadline to retire the old Victoria-class boats.
Starting point is 00:02:30 Carney's visit is also significant because it's a sign the federal government wants to move swiftly towards a decision. Marie Brewster, CBC News, COJ, South Korea. New Brunswick has seen a surge in interest from Quebec physicians who've been embroiled in a contract dispute. Last week, the Lago government passed an unpopular bill that tied part of a doctor's compensation to performance targets. The New Brunswick College of Physicians and Surgeons says it's typically getting. three or four license applications a month from Quebec, but this month, 40 Quebec physicians have applied. Premier Susan Holt says she believes it's fair to recruit Quebec doctors during the dispute.
Starting point is 00:03:08 We're constantly looking to attract doctors here to New Brunswick from other places in Canada and from places around the world. So vitality right now has a recruitment campaign targeted towards Quebec doctors, and I believe we've seen an increase. With that, Premier Francois-Lago is upset that Ontario and New Brunswick are courting Quebec doctors, saying provinces should not be taking shots at each other. Nunavut's leaders are calling on the federal government to include four Inuit-led projects in its national infrastructure priorities.
