Starting point is 00:00:39 are now in the scene of a mass stabbing on a train more than 30 officers responded to the scene at huntington station in cambridgeshire a county about 90 kilometers north of london ten people were taken to hospital nine of them in life-threatening condition beno jeeps benobis jexie is the local member of parliament, he went to the scene to talk to victims and first responders. It seems to be almost pure chance that the attack took place whereabouts it did, given the length of journey that the train was on. And we don't know anything more about why the attacker did what he did and took those actions. So really just waiting for more information, but trying to give people reassurance. Two people are now in custody.
Starting point is 00:01:25 UK Prime Minister Kyr Sturmer is calling the incident deeply concerning. The BC Nurses Union is calling for changes to safety protocols and health care facilities. This comes after a person drove their car through the emergency room doors of a local hospital and then allegedly assaulted to paramedics. BCNU President Adrian Geer says more needs to be done to protect hospital workers. It's just gotten to a point where being a nurse in BC right now feels like it's really dangerous work. Provincial health officials say staff and patient safety is a talk. priority, and there is a robust program to reduce workplace violence. Former U.S. President
Starting point is 00:02:06 Barack Obama says America and its politics are in a dark place. He's campaigning for Democrats, running for governor in Virginia and New Jersey ahead of elections Tuesday. Obama criticized Republicans, especially Donald Trump. Every day, this White House offers up a French batch of lawlessness and recklessness and mean-spiritedness and just plain craziness. It's not as if we didn't see some of this coming. I will admit it's worse than even I expected, but I did warn y'all. Obama also accused Republicans in Congress of ducking their responsibility during the ongoing U.S. government shutdown. The Royal Canadian Legion has named Nancy Payne, as said this year's Silver Cross Mother, on Remembrance Day, she'll lay a wreath at Ottawa's National War Memorial,
Starting point is 00:02:54 representing all the mothers of Canadian soldiers who died in combat. She tells CBC News Chief Correspondent Adrian Arsenao how her son would react to the distinction. He'd be so honored, yeah. Like, Mom. Yeah, he would be very happy, very honored. Corporal Randy Joseph Payne was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2006. In China, it's getting harder and harder for university graduates to find work.
Starting point is 00:03:21 The youth unemployment rate is almost 20%. So, some are going to fake offices and pretending they're already working to better their chances. Yan Broomby explains. Fake it till you make it. Videos on Chinese social media show office spaces where unemployed graduates can pretend to work. In one of them, a graduate describes coming to the office just to have fun. But companies offering the service that we spoke to say Chinese authorities instructed them not to speak publicly about youth unemployment.
Starting point is 00:03:56 It's a sign Beijing is waking up to the potential political fallout of an undeniable graduate jobs crisis. In August, youth unemployment soared 10% as over 12 million graduates entered the job market for the first time, the largest ever cohort. Academic Roy Ng says that universities and students are partly to blame, as both are too focused on traditional academia. Employers, they want real-life problem-solving skills. The graduate jobs downturn is.
Starting point is 00:04:23 part of a wider economic slowdown in China, which could have a knock-on effect on the rest of the world. Yang comes in Brumby for CBC News, Bating.
