Hey, I'm Sarah Marshall, and there's one story from the past that I've been circling around for years now.
This eight-part series traces the hidden history of the satanic panic in North America.
We'll connect the dots from Victoria, BC, to the backroads of Kentucky.
Satan was having a moment, the sensationalist heartthrob of our time.
The Devil You Know, available now wherever you get your podcasts.
from cbc news it's the world this hour i'm joe cummings he was one of the most consequential
american politicians of his generation former u.s vice president dick cheney has died at the age
of 84 willie lowry reports from washington dick cheney leaves a complicated legacy but one that is perhaps
unmatched in Washington. He's widely regarded as one of, if not the most powerful vice presidents
in U.S. history. He helped to steer the country in the aftermath of the September 11th terror
attacks, and he was a major proponent of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He defended his
administration's decision to go into Iraq, despite no weapons of mass destruction ever being found.
And the suggestion that's been made by some U.S. senators that the president, that the president
President of the United States or any member of this administration purposely misled the American
people on pre-war intelligence is one of the most dishonest and reprehensible charges ever aired in
this city.
And in a surprising way, he was a vocal opponent of President Donald Trump.
Cheney even endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for president during last year's
election.

In Ottawa this afternoon, the liberal government tables is
its first budget under Prime Minister Mark Carney.
We will have to make some difficult choices, responsible choices.
Federal government spending has grown massively over the last few years.
That's not sustainable.
That's Carney in a liberal ad hinting that spending cuts are on the way.
That along with what the liberals are calling generational investments in housing and infrastructure.
In recent weeks, the opposition conservatives, the bloc and the NDP have all been accusing the liberals of looking to trigger
an election. The House vote on the budget is a confidence vote, which means if it doesn't get through,
the liberal minority will fall and an election would follow. CBC Radio, incidentally, will have
special coverage of today's budget rollout. Catherine Cullen from the House and Susan Bonner
from this world tonight are hosting. It gets underway at 4 o'clock Eastern on CBC Radio 1 and on
the CBC Listen app. Now to the Yukon election, and after nine years of the liberals being in office,
the territory is getting a new government and a new premier.
He is Curry Dixon, the leader of the Yukon Party.
Tonight, Yukoners chose to move on from the status quo.
They chose a new path.
They chose change.
Yukoners chose a strong majority Yukon Party government.
The conservative leading Yukon Party wins a majority,
taking 14 of the 21 seats in the Yukon Legislative Assembly.
The Yukon NDP becomes official opposition.
position. The incumbent liberals were reduced to just one seat. A number of elections are being held today across the United States, and one of the most closely watched is the race for mayor in New York City. It has a former state governor up against a self-proclaimed democratic socialist. Katie Nicholson has more.
New York City mayoral frontrunner Zoron Mamdani on Monday. Our time has come, New York. Our time is now.
Mamdani's time in particular appears to have come.
The last four months, a wild ride from political outsider to ascendant contender,
driven by a grassroots campaign and promises to tackle affordability.
And so, former New York governor, Andrew Cuomo, entered the race,
contrasting himself with Mamdani's democratic socialism.
Republican Curtis Slee-Waw campaigned.
largely on public safety and as a man of the people.
Like the TV program, everybody loves Raymond, everybody loves Curtis.
This race is already making history.
More than 735,000 lined up for early in-person voting,
more than four times the number in the 2021 election.
Katie Nicholson, CBC News, Washington.
And that is the world this hour.
For CBC News, I'm Joe Cummings.
Thank you.
