from cbc news the world this hour i'm mike miles federal liberals insist this week's budget protects vital services like pharmacare
but health care advocates point out there's no additional funding to expand federal pharmacare to more provinces
and that could leave millions of patients paying out of pocket marina von stackleberg has more
there's now a huge disparity in canadian's ability to access life-saving and life-changing medicine
and that's fundamentally unacceptable.
Teal Phelps Bondaroff wants Ottawa to follow through on its promise
to make contraceptive and diabetes drugs free for all Canadians.
He's with Access BC, a grassroots group that lobbies for pharmacare in British Columbia.
BC, Manitoba, PEI, and Yukon all cut deals with the federal government
to pay for those medications before the spring election.
But since then, there's been no new agreements.
and more than half the $1.5 billion set aside has already been spent.
This week's federal budget came with no new money.
60% of the money has already been spent, and that's only 17% of the Canadians that are covered.
And if the federal government wants to negotiate with large jurisdictions like Quebec and Ontario,
they're going to need to bring more money to the table, and we didn't see that in this budget.
Marina von Stackleberg, CBC News, Ottawa.
The liberal government has survived another confidence vote in Parliament.
MPs voting overwhelmingly against a block Quebecwa amendment to the federal budget,
calling for that budget to be rejected on the basis that it's, quote, harmful to Quebec.
Yesterday, MPs, excuse me, Thursday MPs defeated a similar budget motion from the conservatives.
The budget itself isn't expected to be voted on until later this month.
People in Edmonton Riverbend are reacting to the resignation of their member of parliament.
Conservative Matt Jenneroo announced Thursday his intent to leave.
Liam New Bigging has more.
Rumors swirled all week that MP Matt Jenneru was considering joining the Liberals
after Nova Scotia MP Chris Don Tramont made the move Tuesday.
But instead, the conservative MP committed to leave Parliament altogether.
Some his constituency, like J.R. Dallara, are surprised.
I was actually kind of shocked by it because I've been following it closely,
especially with the news of one of them crossing the floor.
Local former staffer Kamvir Loll thinks differently.
After a long career in politics, he said the move makes sense, even if the timing was a bit odd.
I'm not super surprised that, you know, he chose to step back.
I mean, he's had a political career that's 10 years federally and then, you know, previously a few years provincially.
Jean-Aruz said the exact day he leaves will be decided later, but suggested it would be in the spring.
Liam Newbigin, CBC News, Edmonton.
It's a Toronto tradition dating back to the time when the city was a
agricultural hub. The 103rd Royal Winter Fair is now underway. Clara Pazica checks it out.
Here in the small animal pavilion, the goats are ready for opening day of the Royal Winter Fair.
Katie Brown is the official spokesperson. She says as Canada looks to strengthen its domestic
economy, the agriculture industry is more important than ever. Farmers are a very resilient
bunch. It's been a very difficult time, and even our weather has been difficult this year.
It's been in a significant drought, so yields are low, but our hearts are high.
19-year-old Parker Ribe has come down from Bruce County to show her heifer.
As well as showing, I'll be writing my calculus midterm for the University of Guel.
But it's not her first rodeo.
The five-year veteran of the fair is no stranger to working hard,
spending months getting her heifer ready.
To come here is incredible to represent my family and to represent my county.
Hundreds of animals, exhibitors, plenty of cooking classes and samples are here to check out,
Until November 16th.
Fire, Paseka, CBC News, Toronto.
Late Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court granted the Trump administration's request
to temporarily withhold billions of dollars in food aid payments.
That overturns lower court orders that full payments be made under the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program,
which serves 42 million low-income Americans.
