Alter processed foods are being tied to an increased risk of early onset colorectal cancer.
That, according to a U.S. study, which surveyed nearly 30,000 women, shedding light on what's been, till now, a medical mystery.

For years, colorectal cancer has been rising among younger adults.
Scientists didn't understand why, but now there's a new clue, tying early onset cancer to foods that contain high levels of sugar, salt, and food additives.
Things like sugary drinks, frozen dinners, and processed meats.
We do think that there might be a role that ultra-processed.
food plays. Dr. Andrew Chan specializes in the digestive system at Harvard Medical School.
He's a co-author of a new study which tracked thousands of women under the age of 50.
So we found that the individuals in our cohort that ate the highest levels of ultra-processed food
had about a 1.45-fold higher risk of developing a colorectal polypip. Colorectal polyps are
precursor to most early onset colorectal cancers. Chan says it's not clear what exactly
is behind the link. That will be the subject of further study.
