Who was Elon Musk before he was so loved and so hated?
Saved free speech.
He created so many different great things.
Before the billions, before the rockets, before the never-ending headlines.
I'm Jacob Silverman, and my new podcast explores the prequel to the Elon Musk era.
Let me tell you what you don't know about the world's most notorious billionaire.
Understood the making of Musk.

From CBC News, The World This Hour, I'm Gina Louise Phillips.
All eyes will be on the House of Commons tomorrow,
when MPs will vote on the Carney government's budget.
As a minority government, the liberals need two more votes
or two opposition MPs not to show to get the budget passed.
And if they don't, there could be a snap election,
barely six months after the last one.
But the Chief Government Whip, Mark Gerritsen, says his party is ready.
We're always ready for an election.
The Liberal Party has been ready for an election since the last one.
If it comes to that, then we'll proceed to an election.
Having said that, I don't believe Canadians want this,
and what they want is for us to be working together,
and I believe that this budget reflects that.
Members of the Conservatives and the Block Quebecois and Green Party
have signalled their parties won't support the budget.
The RCMP are still searching for three suspects who stole guns from a store,
in northern Alberta. Police say they fired at someone and then fled in a vehicle. That automobile
was later found in the Peerless Trout First Nation. A shelter-in-place order was imposed for several
hours, but it was lifted when police determined the suspects were no longer in that area.
The UK is announcing sweeping changes to its asylum policy. People granted asylum will now have to
wait 20 years before applying for permanent status. That's up from five years currently. And they could
lose refugee status if their situation changes. Shabana Mahmoud is Home Secretary.
The situation will be assessed every two and a half years. So if your country becomes safe
in that intervening period and you are remaining on this essentially core protection model,
you will be returned to your country because we see countries that have started off in
conflict and people have moved in order to escape that conflict becoming safe. So I think that is
right. There is growing public concern about uncontrolled immigration as the number of people
arriving in small boats soars. The Home Office says more than 1,000 migrants arrived in the last
seven days and close to 40,000 so far this year. For years, Marjorie Taylor Green was one of
Donald Trump's loyal defenders, but not anymore. The U.S. Republican Congresswoman has
found herself on the receiving end of the president's attacks for supporting efforts to get
Department of Justice files on Jeffrey Epstein made public. Kate Fisher has more on this.
Trump has called Marjorie Taylor Green a ranting lunatic, saying that she should be unseated in next year's elections.
While the Georgia Republican says the president's comments have been hurtful.
He called me a traitor. Those are the types of words used that can radicalize people against me and put my life in danger.
It comes after Green signed a discharge petition to force a House vote to release the files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
I believe the country deserves transparency in these files, and I don't believe that rich, powerful people should be protected if they have done anything wrong.
Scores of House Republicans are expected to break rank and support the bill, but it's unlikely to get Senate approval or be signed by the president.
Still, the process could drag on for weeks, keeping the controversy about Trump's ties to Epstein in the news.

Ending with the CFL.
We are just one hour away from kickoff in this year's Grey Cup.
The Montreal Elouettes face the Saskatchewan Rough Riders in the championship game.
And Jay Turnbull is at the stadium in Winnipeg with a preview for us.
People have gathered here for the pregame tailgate parties.
The Ray Cup always attracts CFL fans from across the country, ready for a party.
And this, the 112th edition, is no different.
a lot of green and white rough rider jerseys this week, a ton of blue bomber jerseys,
but even fans from BC, Edmonton, Toronto, and of course Montreal.
Saskatchewan had the best record in the league this season.
Deloettes did not finish first in the east, but ended up knocking off both the Winnipeg Blue Bombers
and the Hamilton Tiger Cats to get to the championship game.
The success of the Yellowettes rides in the health of their quarterback.
Davis Alexander has been nursing a hamstring injury,
but he's been insisting all week that he's healthy and ready to go.
The Alouettes last won the Great Cup just two years ago.
For Saskatchewan, it's been a little bit longer.
It was back in 2013.
