You probably know Chris Hadfield as a decorated astronaut, but do you know Chris Hadfield, the author?
This week, Chris joins me on bookends to talk about his new space thriller and his storytelling skills are out of this world.
Thundering down through and flames licking around the ship and 3,000 degrees outside and then the parachute opening just before you hit the ground and then slamming into the world and rolling to a stop.
And then you sort of emerge almost newborn out of that ship.
Check out that conversation on bookends with me, Matea Roach, wherever you get your podcasts.
From CBC News, The World This Hour.

A group of British Columbia teachers are being praised as heroes after they tried to protect a group of elementary school students from a grizzly attack.
The bear attacked the group in Bella Cooley yesterday when they stopped for lunch on the trail, hurting 11 people.
The teachers repelled it using pepper spray and a bear banger.
Meanwhile, conservation officers in BC are still looking for that bear.
Inspector Kevin Van Dam is with BC Conservation Officers Service.
Eight conservation officers have been deployed to the site with the focus on finding out what happened,
as well as capturing the offending bear.
We are investigating the site, collecting physical evidence and evidence that could be used for forensic needs.
Capture mitigation techniques have been set.
Van Damme says the situation is still dangerous and people should avoid this area.
of the four people sent to hospital, three were children, two of whom suffered critical injuries.
In Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky's options are narrowing.
He says Kiev is facing a difficult choice that would mean either losing its key partner or losing its dignity.
U.S. President Donald Trump has presented Kiev with its draft plan to end the war with Russia
and says he expects an answer by third.
Thursday. The plan includes concessions that Ukraine had previously ruled out, like seeding large
areas of its eastern region to Russia and downsizing its military. This is not the only source
of pressure on Zelensky right now. His administration is also facing a major corruption
scandal involving its nuclear agency. World leaders will also be discussing that U.S. peace
proposal at the G20 summit in South Africa. Prime Minister Mark Carney is among the heads of
state who arrived to Johannesburg today. He's there with an agenda of his own, with plans to court
new investment and trade agreements for Canada. Karina Roman has more. Prime Minister Mark Carney has one-on-one
meetings scheduled with the leaders of France, Norway, the EU, Germany, the UK, and India, as well as
several informal pull-asides with other leaders, all part of Carney's effort to sell Canada to the world
and minimize our reliance on the U.S. And perhaps that will be easier,
this G20 because President Donald Trump is boycotting the summit over widely disputed allegations
that South Africa is persecuting white farmers. Roland Paris is a professor of international affairs
at the University of Ottawa. And if part of the goal for Mark Carney at this summit is to have
meetings with key countries that Canada is trying to deepen its trade partnerships with, then Trump's
absence may actually create some space for that. Over the last two days, Carney secured more than
$90 billion investment from the United Arab Emirates and now hopes to build on that success
at the G20.

The United Nations says more food is getting into Gaza, but still not enough to satisfy
the massive need.
Since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into effect a month ago, the World Food
Program has brought in 40,000 tons of food, but WFP spokesperson, Martin Penner, says
hundreds of thousands of people urgently need help.
Markets are coming back to life. Food is there, but prices are still out of reach for most people.
So many people still rely on food aid, food parcels, bread from bakeries, hot meals, kitchens.
The WFP says that Gaza was hit by heavy rain this week, which spoiled and washed away some stored food residents had been saving.
Congratulations, Mr. Mayor. Thank you, Mr. President. Thank you. I appreciate it.
U.S. President Donald Trump and New York City mayor elect Zoran Mamdani after their first official meeting in the White House today.
Trump called it a great meeting.
He said that despite their different views, the two have much in common, and that he's confident Mamdani can do a good job.
We agree on a lot more than I would have thought.
I expect to be helping him, not hurting him.
A big help, because I want New York City to be great.
It's a big departure from past rhetoric.
Trump had previously called Mamdani a communist and had threatened to pull federal funding from New York.
York City if he became mayor. And that is The World This Hour. For CBC News, I'm Kate McGilfrey.
