from cbc news the world this hour i'm like miles a leaked peace plant and russia's invasion of
ukraine is drawing focus at this weekend's g20 summit in south africa the proposed u.s deal
appears highly favorable to russia and as korena rumen reports it left world leaders including
canada scrambling to respond so these leaders adopted a joint statement today that said the following
that the plan does have some necessary elements, but requires additional work.
And it reiterates the statement does that the principle must be kept that borders must not be changed by force.
The leaders are also concerned by the proposed limitations on Ukraine's armed forces,
which they think would leave the country vulnerable to future attack.
Experts say the risk for Ukraine, if it says no to the deal, is real.
Michael Bosserkue is a senior fellow with the Eurasia Center and is a Canadian based in Ukraine.
If any Ukrainian leader were to sign up for even a part of this so-called plan,
it would be the end of Ukraine as we know it, a game over for a sovereign Ukraine.
Perhaps a glimmer of hope, however, because Trump was asked today if this deal is a final offer,
and he said no, but Trump is so unpredictable that it's not clear what that means.
The CBC's Carina Roman, reporting from Johannesburg.
The UN's COP 30 Climate Summit in Brazil has ended with a hard-worn draft deal,
including steps to speed up climate action and more money for developing countries to deal with extreme weather.
But it says nothing about phasing out the use of fossil fuels.
EU Climate Commissioner VEPCA Hoekstra was lukewarm.
We're not going to hide the fact that we would have preferred to have more ambition on everything.
And we think that should have been possible.
We think that is needed given what we see in terms of.
the planet continuing to warm up. And yet, the world is what it is, the conference is what it
is, and we do think that it's on balance, is it clearly a step in the right direction.
Some participant countries are slamming the proposed deal, calling it climate denialism
and say it, quote, transcends incompetence. The world's biggest historic emitter of the United States
didn't send a delegation to COP 30. BC conservation officers say they're now looking for not one,
but three grizzly bears spotted in the area of Thursday's vicious bear attack.
A group of elementary school students and their teachers were cut off guard by the animal,
which sent four people to hospital.
Yes, mean, Raniya has more.
Belakula residents are still being told to stay indoors,
as conservation officers search for three grizzly bears who were seen in the area during an attack
on about 20 elementary students and teachers.
An RCMP aircraft with thermal imaging is,
helping with search efforts.
There's probably 40 to 50 incidents where houses have been broken into, sheds, shops, and
smoke houses.
Newhawk Nation hereditary Chief Noel Putlas says his community has seen an uptick in
human bear interactions in recent years after a new bear population moved in, driven
out of their old territory by logging, forest fires, and drought.
They've been doing this, well, it's seven years now.
that's a huge problem at risk for our people.
Officials say they have not decided whether the bears will be killed once they're found.

Unidentified drones were spotted flying over a military base in the Netherlands Friday.
The Dutch Defence Ministry says it used weapons to try and bring down the drones but didn't succeed.
The base is used by NATO.
The Netherlands is one of several European countries that have spotted unidentified drones near its military.
bases and civilian airports. In Kiev,
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy and the First Lady lay bundles of wheat in honor
of the victims of the Holodomor. The Soviet-era famine is estimated to have killed millions of
Ukrainians in the winter of 1932 to 33. Over 30 countries recognize the Holodomor as genocide,
including Canada. That is your world this hour.
