We begin in Australia, where police say they are treating a mass shooting at a popular beach as a terrorist attack. Video shows a gunman shooting over a wall at a crowd on the country's iconic Bondi Beach.
Starting point is 00:00:53 Police say the attack was designed to target Sydney's Jewish community, and that at least 11 people were killed. One of the gunmen was also killed. Reporter Phil Mercer is in Sydney. The Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, is calling this incident a targeted attack on the Jewish community. Now, the police say that two gunmen opened fire on people attending a Jewish festival. Now, we've seen a lot of video footage from the scene. One of those shows a bystander tackling one of the attackers, taking their gun and turning it back on them. That individual, has been held a hero. The police also saying that 11 people have been killed. One gunman has also died. Another shooter is in custody. And the police say about 30 people are in hospital, some with very serious injuries. Can the police here have now declared this a terrorist incident? Intelligence bosses say that one of the suspects was known to the authorities. We've also heard detailed.
Starting point is 00:01:58 of explosives being found in a car apparently owned by one of the suspects. Phil Mercer for CBC News, Sydney. Israel is responding to the mass shooting. President Isaac Herzog is sending his condolence to the Jewish community there, impacted by the attack, and Israeli citizen was among those killed. Hurtog also had some criticism of Australia's government. We repeat our alerts time and again to the Australian government to seek action and fight against the enormous wave of anti-Semitism,
Starting point is 00:02:31 which is plaguing Australian society. Prime Minister Mark Carney released a statement saying he's horrified by the anti-Semitic terror attack, adding that Canada stands with the people of Australia and Jewish people everywhere. A person of interest is in custody in connection with the shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island yesterday. That shooting, which happened during final exams, left two students dead and nine other injured. A shelter-in-place order that was in effect for the campus and the neighboring area was lifted this morning. Abbotsburg, B.C. has lifted evacuation alerts for more than 1,000
Starting point is 00:03:10 properties in the hardest hit area of Suez Prairie. The news comes as floodwaters slowly recede, and while it's a relief to many, the South Coast is bracing for another round of rain. Janella Hamilton has more. Rebecca Thoreau looks out what's left of a now water-lawful. logged garden at Archway's urban farm in Abbotsford. The produce from this farm helping feed some of the city's most vulnerable. We're all kind of heartbroken. The latest intense and persistent rains reactivating Abbotsford's disaster relief fund. A program Arrini Calipan says was created following the 2021 floods. And I got to meet with some of the families who had received Abbotsford disaster relief money. And they said, you know what? Yours were the only

At the farm, staff continued to assess the damage, waiting and hoping tonight's storm doesn't wash away the rest of the farm and with it food security for the community. Janella Hamilton, CBC News, Abbotsford. Provincial officials have ordered Mont Saint-Anne in Quebec to indefinitely shut down three chairlifts. An inspection last week. week showed problems with the electrical system that could constitute a danger to public safety. The ski resort had planned to open this weekend after closing last week due to similar power problems. It says it's been experiencing issues since an outage on November 28th.
