This ascent isn't for everyone.
You need grit to climb this high this often.
You've got to be an underdog that always over-delivers.
You've got to be 6,500 hospital staff, 1,000 doctors,
all doing so much with so little.
You've got to be Scarborough.
Defined by our uphill battle and always striving towards new heights.
And you can help us keep climbing.

from cbc news the world this hour i'm claude fagg in australia police say they are treating a mass
shooting at a popular beach as a terrorist attack it's obviously the fact that it's the first day of
harnica the types of weapons the offenders some of the other items we found at the scene as i said
we have found an improvised explosive device in a car mal lanyan is the commissioner of the new south wales
police. He says at least 11 people were killed after gunmen opened fire at Bondi Beach in
Sydney. One of the gunmen was also killed. Reporter Katie Silver is in Sydney. It has been
confirmed that it is a terrorist incident. They were taking aim at an event. It was called
Hanukkah by the sea on Bondi Beach. It was a very important event in the Jewish people's
calendar here in Sydney. We understand about a thousand people at that event. Now, police say that
they responded quickly. There has been criticism in the last few hours from eyewitnesses
saying that there was a lot of confusion and actually that the response was quite
slow and disorganised. We've also heard the identity of one of the gunmen has been confirmed
and sources are saying that their home is being raided in order to try and work out
exactly what's gone on here. We also heard as well from the Prime Minister calling it a devastating
terrorist attack saying that it was targeted, saying that there is no space for, to quote him,
anti-Semitism in Australia. Where it occurred, a very popular part of Sydney. So it really is
absolutely devastating for Australia and indeed for Sydney and for Bondi. Katie Silver for
CBC News, Sydney. Israel has been quick to respond to the attack at Bondi Beach, calling out the
Australian government in the process. The CBC's Rafibuja Canyon is in Jerusalem.
The Australian officials have come to calling this an attack that targeted the Jewish community. That
seemed self-evident to officials in Israel from early this morning. Here is President Isaac Herzog
addressing the country. Our heart goes out to them as we pray for the recovery of the wounded.
We pray for them and we pray for those who've lost their lives.
Herzog also has criticized the Australian government for not clamping down on what he's
calling rampant anti-Semitism in the country. We've heard from UN Secretary General Antonio
Guterres, he says in a statement, quote, I am horrified and condemned today's heinous, deadly attack on Jewish families gathered in Sydney to celebrate Hanukkah.
My heart is with the Jewish community worldwide on this first day of Hanukkah.
A very similar statement from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who also says the EU stands with Australia and Jewish communities around the world.
Rafi Bufiqanian, CBC News, Jerusalem.
Canada is also among the countries condemning the attack. Prime Minister Mark Carney says he's
quote, horrified by the anti-Semitic terror attack, adding that Canada stands with the people
of Australia and Jewish people everywhere. Global Affairs Canada says that they are not aware of any
Canadian victims at Bondi Beach. And I want to offer my profound thanks to all the hardworking
men and women in law enforcement who worked through the night to be able to get us to this point
where we can confirm that there is a person of interest who has been detained. This is exactly
the kind of collaboration that we train for and that we hope for.
That's the Mayor of Providence, Rhode Island, Brett Smiley, speaking to reporters this morning.
That person of interest is in custody in connection with the shooting at Brown University yesterday.
The shooting, which happened during final exams, left two dead and nine others injured.

Far right presidential candidate Jose Antonio Cass poses for photos as he voted.
votes today in a historic runoff election. Cast is the founder of the Republican Party. He faces
the Communist Party candidate Jeanette Jara. Cast is widely favored to win with the combined right-wing
vote from the first round, expected to push him to victory and deliver Chile's sharpest right-word
shift since 1990. Results are due later this evening. And that is your world this hour.
For CBC News, I'm Claude Pai.
