Promoter said, you can't put two women on the same bill. People won't come. And it put a huge fire under my butt to prove them wrong. Representation for women in rock music wasn't there. And worse, you're being pitted against each other.

From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Kate McGilvery. Canada's population is going down. The country lost tens of thousands of people in the third quarter of this year.
Starting point is 00:00:45 Most of them non-permanent residents. Catherine Tunney has more details. Statistics Canada is reporting a change Canada hasn't seen in years. A drop in its population. New data out Wednesday shows a loss of about 76,000 people. The decrease is mainly due to a reduction in the number of non-permanent residents, which Staskan attributes to shifting government policy. In 2024, the federal government announced it would be slashing the number of non-permanent residents
Starting point is 00:01:11 and lowering the cap on international students. The new numbers show every province and territory had fewer non-permanent residents on October 1st than on Canada Day, with Ontario seeing the largest decrease. The recent liberal budget promises to continue slashing the number of temporary residents allowed into Canada over the next few years, and the opposition conservatives are calling for the temporary foreign worker program to be dismantled. Catherine Taney, CBC News, Ottawa. The leader of Quebec's Liberal Party, Pablo Rodriguez, has told members of his caucus
Starting point is 00:01:41 he's going to resign. That's according to Radio Canada's sources, the former federal MP and Trudeau cabinet minister took over the party leadership in June. In recent weeks, the party's been in turmoil over claims of illegal campaign donations. Rodriguez has said he knew nothing about the party. the alleged scheme, and he's ordered an internal investigation. Quebec's anti-corruption police is also looking into those allegations. Rodriguez plans to make a public statement tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:02:09 Ontario Provincial Police say they've dismantled a criminal organization responsible for shipping stolen cars overseas. With the help of the Canadian Border Services Agency, they recovered more than 300 vehicles worth about $25 million. 20 people have been arrested and they're facing dozens of charges, including money laundering and fraud. OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrick. This is organized crime on a global scale.
Starting point is 00:02:36 And today, we have sent a clear message. Ontario will not be a source for criminal profits. We strike at the very foundation of organized crime and create a powerful deterrent. The investigation found that the criminal network used freight forwarding companies to ship cars to the Middle East and West Africa. A ferocious winter storm is hitting the prairies and parts of northern Ontario.
Starting point is 00:03:06 The Alberta Clipper is bringing strong winds and a huge dump of snow. The Calgary police is advising motorists not to drive at all. They say extreme winter conditions have already caused many collisions and road closures. Flights have also been suspended at the Calgary Airport because of low visibility. And blizzards are leading to weather and travel alerts for most of Saskatchewan. Nick Reiner made his first appearance in court three days after he allegedly killed his parents in Los Angeles. The 32-year-old is the son of prominent Hollywood director Rob Reiner and Michelle Singer-Riner. He's charged with two counts of murder, but today declined to enter a plea.
Starting point is 00:03:44 His lawyer, Alan Jackson, spoke to reporters. There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case. they need to be thoroughly, but very carefully, dealt with. Reiner's being held without bail, and his arraignment hearing will continue on January 7th. And one of television's marquee events is changing its home. And the Oscar goes to? Are they playing us off?
Starting point is 00:04:16 No. Well, maybe. Oh. Anora. Starting in 2029, the Academy Award. Awards will begin streaming exclusively on YouTube. That includes all Oscars content, including the Red Carpet, the Governor's Awards, and the nominations announcement.
