And in addition to the guns used in the massacre, officers are saying the suspects also threw four explosive devices that failed to detonate. As for the surviving suspect, 24-year-old Naviv Akram, he has now been transferred from hospital to a prison facility. Meanwhile, the New South Wales legislature has been recalled

to begin the process of debating stricter gun control legislation. Phil Mercer has more. I think it's really important that we take action in relation to guns. New South Wales Premier Chris Minns is promising Australia's toughest gun laws that would restrict the number and types of firearms that individuals can own. He also wants to give the police more powers to ban protests, which could affect large-scale marches. I know that there's a deep concern about international events and wars and that people's passions are heightened

and there's genuine concern about it, and I'm not criticising them for holding those views. My responsibility is in Sydney right now. We need to make sure that the community is not divided. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was geared as he arrived at a memorial to remember the victims of the Bondi Beach shootings. His critics have accused him

of failing to curb rising anti-Semitism. In response, he's promising to crack down on extremism, Phil Mercer for CBC News, at Bondi Beach in Sydney. Now to Moscow. That is a Russian official announcing an investigation into a car bombing that has claimed the life of a senior member of the Russian military. Lieutenant General Finil Savarov was killed this morning after an explosive device was detonated under his vehicle. The Kremlin says it's investigating the theory that Ukrainian intelligence was involved.

At this point, there's been no comment from Kiev. The remaining 130 school children abducted in Nigeria last month are now free. The children were among more than 300 that were taken from a Catholic school on November 21st. Between then and now, close to half, either escaped or were released. And a presidential spokesperson is saying now all students and staff members have been let go. It's still not clear who was behind the abductions or how the government was able to secure the release of the remaining hostages. It's the latest in a wave of abductions that plague. Nigerian now for years. In the end, school attendance across the country has dropped off

significantly. As 2025 comes to a close, Canadian air travelers can look back on two labor descriptions that over the last year grounded thousands of flights and uphanded travel plans for thousands of people. And as we hear now from Anise Hidari, it's possible there could be more of this to come in 2026. Contract disputes aren't a tailwind for airlines as the new year approaches, even though Canadian travelers already faced big delays and cancellations this year. We still got four or five major unions still in the pipeline. John Graddock lectures on the aviation industry at McGill University.

He says Air Canada will be negotiating with ground and baggage crew. Porter Airlines is bargaining with its workers. And Westjet, their flight attendant. have a contract that expires December 31st. Canadians are going to be faced with situations where these contracts could potentially disrupt travel through 2026 and maybe even 2027. But industry and labor experts say even though contracts are already being negotiated, it could be months before any land, with no timeline on when or even if passengers could end up grounded.
