This ascent isn't for everyone.
You need grit to climb this high this often.
You've got to be an underdog that always over-delivers.
You've got to be 6,500 hospital staff, 1,000 doctors,
all doing so much with so little.
You've got to be Scarborough.
Defined by our uphill battle and always striving towards new heights.
And you can help us keep climbing.

from cbc news the world this hour i'm claude fagg merry christmas and happy holidays some yukon
residents are being warned about potential outages as a deep freeze strains the territory's power grid
while the prairies are also bracing for extreme weather in the form of snow nicole healy now on the
extreme conditions in the north and beyond yukon facing extreme cold and wind
chill that could reach negative 55 degrees. Some residents are being told to prepare for the possibility
of rolling blackouts. Got protein last night. Officials say the territory's power grid is already
near capacity and residents should have a 72-hour emergency kit ready to go. We're asking
you Connors to be mindful of when they are using electricity use. White Horses Mayor says the city
is ready if those outages happen. We have a number of facilities.
Like the Canada Game Center, they're well prepared to take in individuals.
Parts of the prairies are also being hit with the extreme cold.
Christmas morning, it starts to pivot and make its way eastward across the northern part of the prairies.
Two parts of the country facing their own versions of extreme weather events.

In Australia, it's summertime right now, and many people there celebrate Christmas Day with a day at
beach. But at Sydney's Bondi Beach, numbers are down today. It's just 12 days since two
gunmen killed 15 people at a Hanukkah celebration up there. Now, amidst the Christmas
celebrations, this man says this day is also filled with heavy hearts. Everybody has got it
in the memories and everybody is respectful of what happened and everybody. And I mean,
everyone is feeling for their family and friends who are going through the worst possible thing
you could imagine. As people relaxed on the sand or swam in the sea, police carried out patrols
in the area. The Australian flag at the pavilion next to the beach continues to fly at half-mast.
Opposition leader Pierre Pauliev wished Canadians well on Christmas. In a statement,
he recounted the traditions of Christmas passed down for generations. He paid regards to the
Canadians serving the country overseas and those working here at home, bringing cheer to people
who are alone. He also conveyed his new year's greeting. Canada's world junior hockey team begins
its quest to get back to the medal podium tomorrow in Minnesota. The Canadians knocked out in the
medal rounds the past two years by the Czech Republic will face that very nation in their opening
game on Boxing Day. Dale Hunter, the last coach to lead Canada to a gold medal in 2020, is back
and told TSN this year's team appears hungry and determined to succeed. I wouldn't call it pressure.
they have the will to get back.
They want to be back.
They don't want to end up there.
Nobody does.
No one wants to end, you know,
and getting beat out in the quarters.
So I wouldn't say,
it's the will to do it now.
No, no, this is unacceptable kind of attitude.
And I like that attitude.
Canada and the Czech Republic
dropped the puck tomorrow night at 8.30 Eastern, 530 Pacific.
And that is your world this hour.
For CBC News, I'm Claude Fagg.
Thank you.
