Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky is presenting his peace plan to U.S. President Donald Trump. It's a renewed attempt to end the four-year war between Russia and Ukraine, but notably missing from the table is Russia. Anna Cunningham looks at what's being discussed. This is a trim down 20-point plan for peace. Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelensky is expected to focus on U.S. security guarantees aimed at preventing Russia from attacking again. He also wants to keep troop numbers at 800,000. And there is, of course, a major issue of territory. Ukraine and its allies, including Canada, do not want to see any potential for the capitulation of Kiev.
Starting point is 00:01:23 But Russia wants Ukraine to hand over territory in northern Donetsk in the eastern Donbass region, which it's not captured. President Zelensky is due to suggest a referendum that can decide on a demilitarized zone with both sides withdrawing from the line of contact. Ukraine's allies, including Canada, certainly will be watching this presidential Mar-a-Lago meeting very closely. Anna Cunningham, CBC News, London. Polls have closed in the first phase of a three-phase election in Myanmar, but the election in the country, previously known as Burma, have been widely discredited. Her party has not been allowed to run, and she remains in prison. Her son Kim Arise lives in the UK and spoke. to the BBC about the election. The democratically elected leadership has been all locked up, including my mother, and without there being allowed to participate in these elections,
Starting point is 00:02:35 they are essentially meaningless. And the humanitarian situation in Burma is untenable now. Arise says he has not been allowed to speak to his mother in more than two years. A teenage boy in Winnipeg is facing over a dozen charges after a vehicle was stolen and a city transit bus was rammed on Friday. Police say charges against the 16-year-old include vehicle theft, dangerous driving, and possessing a restricted firearm.
Starting point is 00:03:02 The charges come after officers in Winnipeg's North End tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver sped off. Investigators say the vehicle drove through a stop sign before plowing into the side of a transit bus. President Emmanuel Macron says France is mourning a legend. That's in response to news of the death of iconic actor and singer Brigitte Bardot. Bardot died today in her home in the south of France at age 91. Dominic Volaitis has more on her groundbreaking career and complicated legacy.
