Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, says he and U.S. President Donald Trump have made significant progress in talks aimed at ending Russia's war in Ukraine. The two met for nearly three hours at Trump's Mar-Lago resort in Florida Sunday. As Steve Futterman reports, both emerged describing the meeting as promising. The two leaders emerged from their meeting expressing optimism, Trump saying as he has on a number of previous occasions that a deal is close.

We had a terrific meeting. We discussed a lot of things, and I do think we're getting a lot closer, maybe very close. The key part of Ukraine's 20-point peace plan is the establishment of a demilitarized zone in eastern Ukraine, along with an international peacekeeping force to monitor the zone. Zelensky also expressed hope after the talks. We had a really great discussions on all the topics. Earlier, Trump had a two-hour phone call with Vladimir Putin, who appears to be the lynchpin in all this.

Even if Trump and Zelensky agreed to a peace plan, it means nothing if Putin disagrees. And Putin has given no indication that he's on board with the framework of Zelensky's 20-point proposal. Steve Futterman, CBC News, Los Angeles. And U.S. President Donald Trump will be hosting another world leader about a peace deal Monday afternoon in Florida. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to discuss moving to phase two of the ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Netanyahu is also expected to raise ongoing tension with Iran and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.

Well, polls have closed in the first phase of a three-phase election in Myanmar, organized by the military dictatorship, The elections have been widely criticized by Western countries and human rights groups. Observers say the military is trying to legitimize its power through this vote. Lolita Han Wong is a professor who teaches Myanmar's history. Because the election is not inclusive, the military does not even want people along the border, people from ethnic groups and resistance groups to take part in this election. I think the idea is only to have an election. and they will take it from there.

Myanmar's army conducted a coup in March of 2021, overthrowing a civilian government led by Nobel laureate Unsung Si Chu. She's currently behind bars. Firefighters are investigating the cause of a deadly fire in Charlottetown. Two people died and three others were taken to hospital after flames tore through an apartment building. Some residents had to be rescued through windows to escape the flames.

Fire crew say it was under control. Within an hour of arriving on the scene, the Red Cross is providing emergency food, clothing, and housing to about 20 displaced residents. A woman from St. John, New Brunswick, is recovering from a brain injury. A moose kicked her in the head. After the car she was traveling in,

collided with the animal. The 28-year-old woman's family is hopeful. She can make a full recovery. Rhythm Ratti reports. Courtney Devo and her boyfriend, Zachary Legacy, were traveling on a New Brunswick Highway in early December. They were talking about moose. Moments later, they collided with one.

As the dying animal tried to get its limbs off the car, it kicked Devo in the head at least twice. Legacy was driving the vehicle. I tried to get in front of it, but my seatbelt was on, and I was so in shock. I didn't know to press my seatbelt button to take it off. I was just trying to get in front of her. Devo was placed in an induced coma with a brain injury,

a broken jaw and broken ribs. Mother Jennifer Devo says her daughter is showing signs of improvement. I love seeing this progress and, you know, it's amazing. At the same time, I have these moments where I'm like, oh, you know, she doesn't know me right now. And that frustrates me a little bit. And I realize, you know, she has a traumatic brain injury and it's going to take time. Legacy says if there had been lights on the highway, perhaps they could have spotted the moose.
