RCMP have lifted a dangerous person's warning for our First Nation in Saskatchewan following a string of shootings today. One person was killed and three others injured at Big Island Lake Cree Nation near the Alberta border. Police are searching for two people considered armed and dangerous. Alexander Silberman has the latest. Police say they no longer believe there is an imminent risk to public safety. No arrests have been made after people in the community were told to shelter in place for much of the day.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Inspector Ashley St. Germain speaks for the Saskatchewan RCMP's major crimes branch. She says one person was killed and three found injured but could not provide details on their condition. Officers are as well investigating the scene and interviewing witnesses to determine whether the shooting is random or targeted. Larry Wapistquan identified his son Neil as the person shot and killed early Tuesday morning. And we're about to sleep when my brother called me and told me that my son got shot. Wapistquan says the others who were shot were taken to hospital. RCMP say the two suspects are armed with at least one gun and were last seen riding in ATV. Alexander Silberman, CBC News, Edmonton.
Starting point is 00:01:53 The U.S. is ramping up its vendetta against Venezuela. Donald Trump is revealing details of the first known American attack on Venezuelan soil. After striking boats off the coast, Trump claims are smuggling drugs into the U.S. Willie Lowry reports. There was a major explosion in the dock area where they load the boats up with drugs. After months of escalation, the U.S. struck Venezuela earlier this month, hitting a port facility on the coast. U.S. President Donald Trump says it's where alleged drug boats are loaded up before shipping off for various parts of the world.
Starting point is 00:02:30 U.S. media say a strike was carried out by the CIA using drones. The strike appears to have taken place just before Christmas. Democratic Senator Chris Kuhn says he's stunned by the escalation. Frankly, it's pretty stunning that President Trump would reveal a covert action like this by bragging about it. The Trump administration says that it's at war with South American drug cartels. Willie Lowry, CBC News, Washington. It's been another day of protest in Iran over the state of the country's economy.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Iranians are upset with worsening inflation and the devaluation of the country's currency. The protests began Sunday. Shopkeepers in Tehran's Grand Bazaar staged a strike when the Iranian Real hit a record low against the U.S. dollar. The high-speed rail network connecting the U.K. with much of Europe, is slowly getting back on track after a power issue forced Eurostar to shut down its channel tunnel for most of the day,
Starting point is 00:03:34 stranding thousands just ahead of the new year. John Northcott reports. We were supposed to leave at 824 this morning and it is now 1232. Just one of the tens of thousands of Eurostar passengers who spent the day frustrated on both sides of the English Channel. Officials say a problem with the power supply
Starting point is 00:03:56 meant the trains couldn't leave and some were even stuck on route with delays of up to five hours and passengers left without food or water and a dwindling supply of toilet paper. I was stuck. The shuttle, which carries cars and trucks, was interrupted as well, creating traffic jams around Dover and Fokston in southeast England.
Starting point is 00:04:16 The Eurostar Company says they hope to have full service resumed tomorrow, but are advising people, if travelers don't already have a reservation, they're warned not to even show up. at the station. John Northcott, CBC News, London. The Haida Nation on Haida Gwai, off BC's North Coast, says work is underway to try to open a lane on a major highway. Extreme flooding washed out several roads in the area today, including a section of Highway 16. The nation says a lot of rain fell after a large snowfall.
