Parts of Calgary are now underwater restrictions and a boil advisory
that could stretch into the new year.
This comes after a main, critical to the city's water supply, broke last night.
As Anise Haydari reports, another catastrophic break happened on the exact same street in 2024.
Calgary's Bow Ness neighborhood flooded from a water main break.
Tuesday night saw firefighters rescuing 13 people from multiple cars trapped by water overflowing on a major road.
And while nobody was injured, there are now restrictions on mass water use across the city.
To be clear, New Year's Eve is not counsel.
Jeremy Farkas is the mayor of Calgary.
We can still proceed, but we have to do so in a way that recognizes the constraints
that Calgarians exist in right now.
Those constraints also include boil water advisories for multiple neighborhoods.
This break happened in the same area that saw the same type of catastrophe back in June
2024.
But Chris Graham with the city of Calgary's utilities says there was no indication of this problem
in advance.
There was nothing in the monitoring or in the operation of the pipe, the flows, the pressure,
that would have indicated an issue before the pressure dropped of the control room.
There is no time frame yet on when repairs will be completed or when the restrictions will be lifted.

for the quarter finals, which gets underway Friday. Canada has failed to medal at the championship
the past two years. Puck dropped tonight from Minnesota is set for just after 830 Eastern and
530 Pacific. As Canadians welcome 2026, the Governor General reflects on the past year and looks ahead
with hope for the nation. In her New Year message to Canadians, Mary Simon highlights the courage
and unity shown by communities across the country. This past year, I witnessed extraordinary
solidarity unfold across our country, in the unity of communities affected by wildfires,
in your unprecedented economic cooperation, and in the revitalization of indigenous cultures and
languages. In 2025, I saw Canada as a nation that is courageous, inclusive, and committed to
building peace.
sends her best wishes for joy, health, and peace to all Canadians as we start the new year.
