In fact, most of the world is already in 2026.
That's how party goers welcomed the new year in Paris tonight
with dazzling fireworks around the city's iconic monuments.
Avalanche Canada has just announced the death of a snowmobiler in British Columbia.
It happened Tuesday afternoon near Tumblr Ridge.
Three snowmobilers were riding in the Bull Moose area
when one person was caught and buried in an avalanche.
The avalanche was remotely triggered from the base of the slope.
The avalanche measured about 300 meters wide by 240 meters long.
The victim was fully buried and did not survive
despite a quick response from their companion.
A First Nation in northern Manitoba says
the lives of its members are at risk.
Most residents of Pimichikamak,
Kree Nation lost all electricity
when a power line snapped Sunday night,
just hours before the temperature plummeted to minus 32.
Many were forced to leave home.
Others hunkered down for a frigid weight.
Ian Frey's has reaction.

We just kept our body heat with candle.
When the power went out in the dead of winter,
Troy Papanicus says his family tried to ride it out.
Because he said the powers would be on the next day.
That was three days ago. Since then, a broken power line has left Pimichikamak cre nation without heat, lights, or clean water as temperatures dipped to minus 30.
About 7,500 people live there. Chief David Monias declared a state of emergency on Monday and has been critical of the response by Manitoba Hydro.
This is now a human safety issue, not just the power audits.
The power company had estimated a relatively quick fix. It now says it hopes to pull.
power will be restored late Thursday. The delays are being blamed on the rough terrain surrounding
the community. Chief Monias says he's previously asked Manitoba Hydro to move the power line along
the highway where it's easier to reach, but Hydro's been saying for years that it needs to study
the idea. Ian Frey's CBC News, Winnipeg. Parts of Calgary are now under water restrictions and a
boil advisory that could stretch into the new year. It all comes after a main critical to the city's
water supply broke Tuesday night. As Enise Haydari reports, another catastrophic break happened
on the exact same street in 2024. Calgary's Bowness neighborhood flooded from a water main break.
Tuesday night saw firefighters rescuing 13 people from multiple cars trapped by water overflowing
on a major road. And while nobody was injured, there are now restrictions on mass water use across the city.
To be clear, New Year's Eve is not canceled. Jeremy Farkas is the mayor of Calgary.
