This ascent isn't for everyone.
You need grit to climb this high this often.
You've got to be an underdog that always over-delivers.
You've got to be 6,500 hospital staff, 1,000 doctors,
all doing so much with so little.
You've got to be Scarborough.
Defined by our uphill battle and always striving towards new heights.
And you can help us keep climbing.

from cbic news the world this hour i'm claude fagg and happy new year we begin in switzerland where
dozens of people are dead following an explosion and fire at a ski resort in the swiss alps at least
one hundred other people are reported injured the cbc's john northcott has the latest from london
a social media post shows the panic on the streets late at night of the swiss
resort town. According to police, the number of dead is being described as dozens. However,
some local media are reporting the number of 40 killed. Officials are confirming that some
100 were taken to hospitals. So many injured, in fact, many suffering from burns that they had
to be taken to hospitals around the country. Officials say there is a major response underway with
police, fire and rescue teams on the ground. Swiss authorities are known for prioritizing
and forming the families of the dead in cases like this,
and hence say it is too early to provide further details.
However, they do admit that because the resort area of Crenz, Montana,
is known for its world-class ski runs
and is such a magnet for international tourists,
the number of dead could likely be from many countries.

The border crossing between Gaza and Egypt could soon reopen.
Israel shut it down during the war,
as it tried to pressure the militant group Hamas.
Blake Sifton reports from Tel Aviv.
Israeli media reports say that under pressure from the Trump administration,
Israel plans to announce the reopening of the Rafa crossing between Gaza and Egypt in the coming days.
Once a major conduit for aid, the crossing has been closed since Israel seized the city of Rafa in May
24 during the war with Hamas.
The militant group had used tunnels under the crossing to smuggle weapons into Gaza that were
used to attack Israel. The border was supposed to reopen as part of the ceasefire agreement in
October. Israel has only expressed a willingness to open the crossing for the exit of Palestinians
from Gaza. This was rejected by Egypt, which said that Israel was trying to displace the population
by not allowing anyone back into the strip. Prime Minister Netanyahu reportedly suggested
reopening Rafah in both directions in a cabinet meeting last week, but dropped the idea under pressure
from his far-right coalition partners.

It happened Tuesday afternoon near the Tumblr Ridge.
Three snowmobilers were riding in the Bull Moose area
when one person was caught and buried in an avalanche.
The victim did not survive despite a quick response from their companion.
Well, it is now 2026 in every part of Canada.
