Starting point is 00:01:00 several tens of people, and that work is underway to identify the victims and inform their families. They don't believe the fire was an attack. Authorities say they believe the majority of those killed are from international communities, but there is no word at this time if any Canadians were involved. The Canadian Embassy in Switzerland has issued a social media post on X, extending their sympathies to the family members of those involved. In Amsterdam, a major fire that ignited at the historic von Dolkirk church overnight has forced dozens of residents in the area to evacuate their homes. The church dates back to 1880 and is a popular tourist attraction that was most recently being used as a venue for concerts and other events. According to local authorities,
Starting point is 00:01:50 the church was likely hit by fireworks and the structure has been destroyed. Police officers in the Netherlands say that they were pelted with fireworks and faced unprecedented amount of violence on New Year's Eve. No injuries have been reported. Ukraine's president says a peace agreement to end the war with Russia is nearly complete, but warns that it will not make a deal at any cost. Russia's president, meanwhile, in his end of year address, said that victory would be achieved. Correspondent William Denzel reports from Brussels. While many around the world celebrated the new year with the sound of fireworks, for many across Ukraine, it was the sound of attack drones. Ukraine's president, Vladimir Zelensky, says more than 200 of them were fired overnight, accusing Russia of bringing war into 2026.
Starting point is 00:02:40 In his end of year address, he said a peace deal brokered with the United States is 90% complete. 10% remains, and that is far more than just numbers. Those 10% contain, in fact, everything, those are the 10% that will determine the fate of peace, the fate of Ukraine and Europe, and how people will live. Issues to be resolved include possible territorial concessions, and ironclad security guarantees provided, by the U.S. and allies here in Europe.
