Authorities say many of the victims were young and from many other countries. There is no word yet if any Canadians were involved or what caused the fire. But officials insist it was not an attack.
Starting point is 00:01:14 So Ron Mundani is the new mayor of New York City. He was officially sworn in just after midnight and ceremonially inaugurated by Senator Bernie Sanders later in the day. Willie Larry has more on his promises and agenda. Zoran, Zoran Mamdani doubled down on his campaign promises, telling New Yorkers in his inaugural address that he would aggressively pursue his democratic socialist agenda. I was elected as a democratic socialist, and I will govern as a democratic socialist.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Mamdani pledged to make public transit free for all New Yorkers and the city more affordable. The 34-year-old is the first Muslim mayor in the city's history and the youngest to take the job in more than a century, promising to look out for all New Yorkers. Starting point is 00:02:17 Manitoba Hydro says it has completed repairs to a down power line that has affected a remote First Nation for days. But it says bringing electricity back to thousands of residents, will take time. Power has been out in Piment at Chickamaic. Kree Nation since Sunday night, those who did not evacuate, have dealt with frigid temperatures near minus 30. The nation's chief is warning of complications, such as flooding and burst pipes. Reducing water use right now is critical. Officials in Calgary say progress has been made to fix yesterday's catastrophic water main break, but emergency management chief Susan Henry says a boil water advisory remains into effect in parts of
Starting point is 00:02:56 the city. This is the second major water main break in the city in two years. It led to a significant loss of water in the system. Henry is urging people to take steps to ensure the city continues to run smoothly. Run dishwashers and laundry only when necessary and with full loads. Keep showers to three minutes or less, flush toilets only when needed. These may seem like small actions, but they make a huge difference. Officials say crews are working to restore services and keep people. safe. New legislation in Ontario paving the way for Canadian workers to move more easily between provinces come into effect today. Skilled workers in other provinces will be eligible to work in Ontario within 10 days of their credentials being verified. The law would apply to professionals,
