Starting point is 00:00:27 Donate at lovescarbro.cairbo. from cbic news the world this hour i'm wayne tibodeau in saskatchewan police are still searching for two irms suspects two days after man was shot dead on the big island lake green nation near the alberta border the cbc's alexander silberman has more the search for these two men believed to be responsible for the shooting still remains active and ongoing at this point and rcmp are still working to identify those two individuals. We now know that the shooting took place in two separate locations in the community of Big Island Lake Cree Nation. One of those sites was in the center of the community, an area with many homes, and the other spot
Starting point is 00:01:13 where individuals were shot was near a gravel road just north of the center of the First Nation. One person was fatally shot during these incidents. Another three individuals were shot as well and survived. The latest update we got from RCMP is that those three surviving victims were in hospital as of yesterday afternoon with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Now, we still don't have a possible motive from RCMP. They say the investigation is ongoing. The two suspects they're searching for, once again, not identified. Police are only saying that these two men were last seen armed with a gun and riding an ATV. That's the CBC's Alexander Silberman.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Switzerland has begun five days of mourning, after what officials are calling, one of the country's worst tragedies. Police say at least 40 people are dead, over 150 others injured, many severely, in a barfire on New Year's Eve. Global Affairs Canada says it's not aware of any Canadians among those killed or hurt in the fire. Ontario's new labor mobility rules are now law. They aim to make it easier. for professionals and others from other provinces to work in Ontario. Michelle Song reports. It's common sense legislation.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Starting this year, under Ontario's as of right rules, certified professionals like architects and electricians can work in Ontario within 10 business days. Once a provincial regulator confirms their credentials, Employment lawyer Sandeep Goeclay says this legislation helps address the province's labor shortage. It puts a lot of pressure on some of those regulations. authorities who sometimes take longer than others to certify people. It holds their feet to the fire. But for some industries like engineering, this change doesn't make much of a difference,
Starting point is 00:03:05 says Sandra Perusa, CEO of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers. It's a form you fill out. Usually was done within 30 days. Now it's within two weeks. Ontario says the changes aim to support Canadian workers and bolster the economy amid a U.S. trade war. Michelle Song, CBC News, Toronto. Officials in Calgary say they're making progress.
Starting point is 00:03:29 To fix a catastrophic water main break yesterday, the second major rupture in two years, Emergency Management Chief Susan Henry, has this plea for residents. Reducing water use right now is critical. Every leader saved helps stabilize the system and speeds up our recovery. City officials say so far it is not seeing any real reduction in usage.
