U.S. forces have carried out an overnight attack in Caracas, Venezuela.
U.S. President Donald Trump says Venezuela's president, Nicholas Maduro, and his wife,
have both been captured by special forces.
Maduro and his wife Celia Flores have now been indicted in the Southern District of New York.
Nicholas Maduro is facing a number of charges, including narco-terrorism conspiracy,
and cocaine importation conspiracy.
Nick Harper has the latest reaction from Washington.
The U.S. President Donald Trump in a post on social media confirming this attack,
but also confirming the news that is shocked many internationally,
that the U.S. has removed a sitting head of government, removing Nicholas Maduro and his wife,
the U.S. president confirming that they were captured.
Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, has been speaking to a Republican senator and Trump ally, Mike Lee.
And in that phone call, Rubio said that Maduro would be heading here to the United States.
states to stand trial. Remember, the US government under Donald Trump, first time round,
launched charges against Maduro's government, accusing him of narco-terrorism and corruption.
There is significant questions coming from Democrat lawmakers here in the capital, but around
the country, about whether the US president had that authority to carry out this action.
And then there have been activist groups already calling for anti-war protests, including
outside the White House later today.
Nick Harper, for CBC News.
Washington. Swiss authorities have identified
the first four victims of the New Year's
Eve barfire. There are two females
21 and 16 years of age and
two males aged 18 and 16.
Gian Lorenzo Coronado is the Italian
ambassador to Switzerland.
There are 121 injured and
40 dead, including four identified,
whose families have already been notified.
The identification process will
continue today and tomorrow and should
be largely completed by tomorrow afternoon.
However, there will be some
cases where identification will take longer.
Many bodies were burned beyond recognition.
Officials say sparklers may have ignited a fire in the ceiling of the bar.
Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit Paris next week for talks with Ukraine's allies as ceasefire
negotiations intensify.
It's been nearly four years since Russia's full-scale invasion.
His office says Canada is working with the so-called coalition of the willing to strengthen Ukraine's
defenses and push for the return of Ukrainian children taken during the war.
Canada has so far committed more than $23 billion in support for Ukraine.
It's a story we've been hearing for years now.
European cities suddenly discovered by tourists and then overrun, pushing up rents, and thinning out everyday life.
The latest is Naples.
As Megan Williams reports, it's now one of Europe's fastest-growing tourist destinations.
Not long ago, a trip to Naples came with a pretty decent chance of being pickpocketed.
Or, if you were naive enough to park on the street, coming back.
to a smashed window. Even so, it felt like a small price to pay for the most electrifying street
in Europe. Today, Naples still crackles with street life, but with crime down, it's also
welcoming tourists in record numbers, helped by low-cost flights and cruise ship stops. That boom
is causing a housing crunch, says Affordable Housing Advocate Anafava, with short-term rentals
multiplying and rents rising. In a city where 70% of residents don't own.
It would be great if Naples stayed authentic, says Vava.
But that requires real Neapolitans still being able to live here.

So the two straight quarterfinal losses have been avenged.
And now it's on the face Czechia.
Canada's juniors defeated Slovakia's 7-1 in the quarter-finals
of the World Junior Hockey Championship last night.
The team has failed to medal,
the tournament the past two years after being knocked out in the quarterfinals both times.
Canada now advances to a semi-final matchup against Chequia.
And that is the world this hour.
