We're going to stay until such time as the...
proper transition can take place. We're going to run it.
Trump says the U.S. will take over Venezuela's oil industry, which was nationalized in the 1970s.
We built Venezuela oil industry with American talent, drive, and skill, and the socialist regime stole it from us.
Long-time Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Cornina Machado said in a statement that Edmundo Gonzalez is prepared to lead a new government.
It's widely believed that Gonzalez was the real winner of Venezuela's 2024 national elections.
But in the meantime, Maduro's Vice President Delci Rodriguez went on national television
and said Venezuela's only president is Nicholas Maduro.
Jorge Barrera, CBC News, Ottawa.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has now reacted, calling Maduro's regime illegitimate and criminal.
But he says that Canada wants to see a Venezuelan-led transition to democracy.
For most Venezuelan Canadians, Maduro's removal is happy news.
They held rallies today to celebrate.
Alexander Silberman has more.
We're just relieved and happy.
Carolyn Duran, one of dozens of Venezuelans celebrating in Montreal,
came to Canada as a refugee eight years ago.
She says she sought no other way to oust Maduro
other than intervention by a foreign power.
I feel like a lot of Venezuelans have been waiting this for a long time.
Many Venezuelans in Canada are elated about the end of Maduro's grip on power.

Alexander Silberman, CBC News, Edmonton.
As Calgarians continue to wait for a major water main to be repaired,
the city's mayor is promising a long-time solution is coming.
The cause of the break still isn't known.
And while it's fixed, people in the city are being told to conserve water whenever they can.
Mayor Jeremy Farcas says this part of the city's water infrastructure is a ticking time bomb
that needs to be completely replaced.
We're going to have to build that replacement pipe faster than we've ever built anything before.
and when you're going to need to do it right the first time.
Repairs are expected to be done in about 10 days.
Meanwhile, four Calgary neighborhoods are under boil water advisories.
Environment Canada is warning those living in coastal areas of southern BC
that they could see some flooding this weekend.
That's because of a combination of unusually high tides
and a storm that could bring fierce wind.
Ken DeSange is a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
As you combine moderate wind storm surge,
we are looking for potential impacts to be washed up debris and potential small-scale erosion along those coastal areas.
So if you are around that area and you're on roadways or walkways, it's going to be important to navigate that closely.
He says the highest risk of flooding will come on Sunday.
