Now to Washington, where senior members of the Trump administration
briefed congressional leaders last night on the military operation that led to the arrest
of Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary
Pete Hagezeth led the two-hour briefing. Here's Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Their plan for the U.S. running Venezuela is vague based on wishes.
thinking and unsatisfying. I did not receive any assurances that we would not try to do the same
thing in other countries. And in conclusion, when the United States engages in this kind of
regime change and so-called nation building, it always ends up hurting the United States.
As for Nicholas Maduro, he made his first court appearance yesterday in New York City and
pleaded not guilty to a range of charges, including terrorism and
drug trafficking. Maduro also declared himself to be a prisoner of war. In the middle of all this,
the White House is doubling down on President Donald Trump's insistence that the U.S. needs to take
control of Greenland. Karen Pauls has more. Obviously, Greenland should be part of the United States.
Stephen Miller, U.S. President Donald Trump's White House Deputy Chief of Staff and Homeland Security
Advisor responding to questions about his wife's social media post just hours after the U.S. incursion
into Venezuela. It had a map of Greenland, covered with an American flag, and the caption, soon.
The real question is, by what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland?
Greenland has been part of the Kingdom of Denmark for 300 years.
Denmark has always been a good ally of the United States, but she adds,
we will not accept a situation where we in Greenland are threatened.
Trump recently appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as an envoy to Greenland.
Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister, Anita Anand, plans to visit Greenland's capital, Nook, sometime this month, to open a consulate.

On this, the fifth anniversary of the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol,
the official plaque honoring those who attempted to defend the Capitol buildings, is nowhere to be found.
It's not on display at the Capitol, as is required by law.
Its whereabouts are not publicly known, though it's believed to be in storage.
A lawsuit has been filed calling for the plaque to be mounted, but the Justice Department is looking to have that suit dismissed.
