Leaders from more than 30 countries say they're ready to support Ukraine as soon as a ceasefire with Russia comes into effect.
Starting point is 00:00:28 U.K. Prime Minister Kirstarmer was there as part of the so-called Coalition of the Willing. It's important that we're starting the year like this. European and American allies side by side with President Zelenskyy standing for peace. And we are closer to that goal than ever. At a meeting in Paris today, the group promised a multinational force to support Ukraine's military. On the sidelines of that meeting, the focus is on Greenland and what Donald Trump's renewed threats to annex the island mean for its allies. Murray Brewster reports.
Starting point is 00:01:06 This gathering in Paris was aimed at giving Ukraine concrete security commitments ahead of possible peace talks with Russia. But U.S. military action in Venezuela and the notion of Greenland, a territory of Denmark, a NATO country, might be next, have cast a long shadow over the conference. Prime Minister Mark Carney. We stand with Denmark. We stand with Greenland. And we're, you know, our closest partnership is with the United States

Several coalition of the willing countries, including France, the UK, Germany, and Spain have released a joint statement saying Greenland's future belongs to the people of Greenland. The show of solidarity comes amid stark warnings from Denmark to take Donald Trump's threats seriously and that military action against Greenland would herald the end of NATO. Starting point is 00:02:06 Since the capture of leader Nicholas Maduro, the Trump administration has turned its eye to Venezuela's vast oil resources. Karen Pauls has more. I'm also meeting with oil companies. Let's go. You know what that's about. U.S. President Donald Trump in a speech to Republican lawmakers Tuesday morning. A lot of oil to drill, which is going to bring down oil prices even first. Trump wants the U.S. oil industry to invest billions and be up and running in Venezuela within 18 months. Chevron is currently the only major American company operating in Venezuela's oil fields,
Starting point is 00:02:40 the world's largest reserves of oil. It pumps out the same type of heavy oil produced in Western Canada. Speaking in Europe, Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada remains a strong player in the global market. We've got competitive product and we'd be diversifying our markets. and that's one of the reasons why we signed the comprehensive MOU with Alberta. Carney adds he welcomes a functioning not corrupt Venezuela because it brings stability to the Western Hemisphere. Karen Paul's, CBC News, Washington. A boy has died in Nova Scotia after being attacked by three dogs.
Starting point is 00:03:15 The RCMP says it's investigating, but there are a few details so far. Kayla Hounsel has the latest. Police say the boy was riding his bike past a property on Saturday when three dogs attacked him. They described the dogs only as large breed, without saying specifically what breed. It happened in Welshtown, Nova Scotia, part of the municipality of the District of Shelburne
Starting point is 00:03:38 in the southwestern part of the province. Today, the municipality says the tragic loss of a 13-year-old boy has had a profound impact on the community. It extended condolences to his family, friends, and classmates, and has made grief and counseling resources available. The RCMP says no charges have been laid at this time, and its investigation is ongoing. The dogs have been euthanized by a veterinarian. Kayla Hounsel, CBC News, Halifax.
Starting point is 00:04:07 The suspect in an alleged multi-million dollar fraud in Quebec has been arrested in Spain. Juan Pablo Serrano had been on the list of the provinces Most Wanted. Desjardin revealed a massive data breach in 2019. The personal information of nearly 10 million clients was taken, shared.
