Starting point is 00:00:27 into the ice shooting death of an American woman in Minneapolis. Killing of Renee Nicole Good was an abomination, a disgrace. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries says no evidence suggests yesterday's shooting was justified. The 37-year-old woman was shot in her car in a residential area. Local officials and witnesses say she was trying to drive away from a volatile situation. Immigration enforcement officers claim she deliberately tried to run over an agent. Homeland Security Secretary Christine Nome maintains that the shooting was a response to domestic terrorism. This is an experienced officer who followed his training, and we will continue to let the
Starting point is 00:01:08 investigation unfold into the individual and continue to follow the procedures and policies that happen in these use of force cases. Noam adds that she could send more ICE officers into Minneapolis if necessary. Earlier, protesters clashed with Border Patrol agents and demanded they leave the city. Minnesota Governor Tim Walts is urging demonstrators to remain peaceful. U.S. President Donald Trump has told the New York Times that Washington can maintain its oversight of Venezuela for more than a year. Trump said his administration will be taking the country's oil and giving money to Venezuela. This morning, the Senate voted to advance a resolution to limit Trump's ability to conduct further attacks there.
Starting point is 00:01:49 The vote suggests some Republicans are unhappy with Trump's actions in the country. If it gets final approval, the resolution would then have to advance to the House. Statistics out today suggest Canada is successfully expanding its export market beyond the U.S. Sales to the United States in October accounted for about 67% of all exports. That's the lowest non-pandemic level since this type of calculation began in 1997. The overall value of items sent from Canada to the U.S. dipped by 4.1% while imports increased 5.3%. Ottawa and many provinces have been turning their attention to other markets since the the U.S. imposed tariffs on many Canadian goods.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Ukraine says nearly 800,000 homes and businesses are in the dark after a series of Russian strikes. Ukraine's acting energy minister says the strikes targeted energy facilities in the Denepro region in the country's southeast. The area was in a near total blackout overnight. He says eight mines were also targeted. Workers were forced to leave. The minister says crews are now working. to restore power and heat. One of Nova Scotia's oldest legions is closing to the dismay of its members. The Legion lost its lottery license after a branch official broke the rules on the popular Chase the Ace fundraiser.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Josh Hoffman has more. Members of the Vimy Legion in North End Halifax say they're not being given a fair chance to keep the branch open. The Legion lost its lottery license last year after its former vice president pocketed more than $25,000 from Chase the Ace contests. Gwen Hayden is the branch secretary. The Chase the Ace was our big moneymaker. That was a lot of our income. Since the incident, Hayden says the executive team has presented a business plan to Nova Scotia Command, but they've got no response. Well, they haven't even looked at it.
Starting point is 00:03:42 The Legion first opened in 1927 and has about 350 members, including Leslie Coyle. Coyle says a Legion is the heart of any community, and she's experienced that firsthand. Personally, I got hit in a car accident, and I had members dropping off. mobility equipment to me within an hour and bringing me food and helping me. Nova Scotia Command declined an interview request. Josh Hoffman, CBC News, Halifax. And the Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal on whether a law to redevelop Ontario Place is constitutional. Premier Doug Ford's government passed a law that exempts the park and venues redevelopment from environmental assessment and some heritage rules. A coalition filed a suit after the province
