Watch free on CBC Gem. from cbc news the world this hour i'm kate mcgilfrey minnesota officials are pushing to be allowed to work on a federal investigation into the shooting death of a woman yesterday a 37-year-old was fatally shot in her car by a federal immigration agent the investigation is now being conducted solely by the fbii disputing claims of what led to her death have caused widespread anger in minnesota willie lowry reporting Hometown Security Secretary Christy Noem doubled down on the administration's assertion that the killing of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good was justified. He's an experienced officer that has served a number of years, and we recognize that he acted according to his training. The FBI is investigating the incident, but it appears to be doing so without the help of Minnesota's own criminal investigative bureau.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Minnesota Governor Tim Walls pleaded with federal authorities to allow state. investigators to help in the interest of transparency. It feels very, very difficult that we will get a fair outcome. And I say that only because people in positions of power have already passed judgment. The only way we find the answers is a thorough investigation. Protests have erupted in the city with demonstrators facing off against federal agents. Willie Lowry, CBC News, Washington. Five Republicans joined Democrats in the U.S. Senate. to advance a resolution to limit the president's ability to conduct any further attacks in Venezuela. Over the weekend, U.S. forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in a dramatic military raid in Caracas.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Before the vote, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Americans should be worried when the U.S. goes into another country in that way. When America has tried to do this kind of nation building, this kinds of regime replacement in the past, It's led to the American people paying the price in treasure and in blood. U.S. President Donald Trump told the New York Times that Washington could maintain its oversight of Venezuela for more than a year. Trump said his administration will be taking the country's oil and giving money to Venezuela. New data shows shares of Canadian exports heading to the U.S. have hit some of the lowest levels in decades.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Anis Hadari has those details. This is the lowest percentage measured since, 1997 if you exclude the height of the pandemic. The share of total Canadian exports heading to the United States hit that low in October, according to statistics Canada. The numbers were a bit delayed because of the U.S. government shut down. Going in the other direction, imports to Canada from the U.S., they increased by 5.3%. And total imports to Canada from everywhere were up by more than 3%. In October, Canadians brought in a lot more computers and computer parts in record numbers. October's numbers also showed a trade deficit with the world after a surplus the month
Starting point is 00:03:32 before. Overall, Canadian exporters are still facing confusion and a lack of clarity over U.S. tariffs, plus upcoming renegotiations around the Kusma trade agreement. So it's unclear whether there will be improvements in the near future. Any state RACBC News, Calgary. Canadian Airlines have cut the number of flights to the U.S. over the past year. After Canada, U.S. flight volumes fell more than 14 percent year over year in the four. fourth quarter, with trips to Florida, California, and Nevada, seeing some of the biggest drops. Starting point is 00:04:13 after the country's exiled crown prince called for mass demonstrations. The protests began with shopkeepers in Tehran, angry at the country's economic crisis. It quickly spread to cities across the country, internet and phone access have been cut. Sanctions, government mismanagement and corruption have pushed the value of Iran's currency to record lows and pushed the inflation rate up to 40%.
