We have DJ who cooked up this video showing what last year was like for anybody who's new to roofball, what exactly this event is all about. So I guess we'll go to the booth for the video. Roofball is back. The sport that made every bro nostalgic about a game they've never played. But here at the Yak, we're not afraid to put our balls on a stranger's roof. It's like you had a J. Cole album cover. In 2023, we organized the first ever sanctioned roofball tournament outside of its home state of Oregon. History was made, but the inventor

of the sport won the whole thing. So this year, it's just Barstool. Sass and Roan are back. We've got newcomers and old heads. And one giant man with a giant chip on his shoulder. They will all be looking for pings, followed by catches, and certainly the elusive wraparound. And we're sure to see a dumbass thrown over the roof. Two spots in the U.S. Open are up for grabs. Who has what it takes to take down 13 other men?

A bunch of people who are new in front of the camera today. A lot of newcomers to Roofball. Have you sensed any nerves from the group? People, Ellis is just always. Francis, yeah. I told Francis if he shows me up, he's fired. So, he's in my group. So, we'll see how that goes.

know he's doing his job we brought upis wanted to throw underhand that is very much within the rules yeah uh i don't know why i do it no neither do i um but speaking of the rules i think tj is going to run us through some more of what this is because it is a fairly simple game but there is still some groundwork that we need to do to establish the rules so we'll pitch it over to tj right now who's very official tj and spider are officials today hey what's up guys welcome back to roof ball we're happy to be here me and spider are going to be keeping the uh guys in check today um to explain the scoring for people that this is their first time watching or playing if you want

to hit the scoring graphic uh the players are going to be thrown at a roof and there's a big high noon can on the roof if they throw and hit the roof graphic, the players are going to be thrown at a roof and there's a big high noon can on the roof. If they throw and hit the roof in any form and it comes down and they catch it, it adds one point to any throw that they have. If they throw and hit the high noon can, that's a ping, which is five points. And then if the ball rolls off and they catch it, it's an added point.

So six point throw. If they throw the ball up the roof around the high noon can, and it comes back down, that's 10 points. That's an around. And if they catch it, it's an extra point. So 11 points. And then you can lose points if you throw it over the roof. It's minus five and you have to go retrieve the ball.

And then for the event format, we're going to be playing three rounds. So in the first round, five groups of three will be throwing. Each person throws 10 throws. The winner of each group automatically moves on to round two. playing three rounds so in the first round uh five groups of three will be throwing each person throws 10 throws the winner of each group automatically moves on to round two and then the three next highest scoring non-winners the wild cards will go into the wild card shootout round to compete for the sixth spot round two same thing two groups of three the winner of each group plus one wild card will move on to the championship round the winner of that championship round will be deemed the high noon roof ball 2024 champion and head to uh oregon

for the u.s open um so yeah with that being said i think we're almost ready connor if you want to introduce our players and we'll get underway absolutely and we have been to oregon it's beautiful beautiful we were there for about 24 hours you went i went i was filming yeah yeah yeah it was a good time i went and i didn't uh do anything yeah well you know you had to go with chey oh that was fun yeah that's a whole day of work yeah um we stayed in a hotel that had burnt down like the day before yeah there was just a hole. And then he did the whole, who do you think you are, I am. I did my Pittsburgh radio hit this morning, and they're fans of the Yak, and they were like, remind us what Max did last year. I couldn't remember.

I was like, I think he split his pants. And I just went with that. Safe to assume. Are you wearing, like, compression underneath? Are you wearing Spanx? It's compressed. A tighter shirt. Everything's a It's compressed? A tighter shirt. Everything's a tighter shirt on.

but he'll somehow find a way to win. Specimen. He said he's wearing his fun shorts. I don't know about you guys. I'm smiling ear to ear. Look at this fucking rag-tag group of people. I love this sport so much. We all are contributors to society and regular human beings,

but you put us under a roof, and we just look like 12 olds we flip a switch that's great no no no no i think the next person is uh all right no come on ladies and gentlemen we have the one and only mook to round it out that is they're not booing folks they're saying mook but they're saying mook in a hateful way I want to punch you in the face mook okay so that's our

five groups all lined up and now folks if everybody would like to rise if you are able we are going to pitch it over to Jersey Jerry for his acapella national anthem. Just the first verse? It is a gorgeous day here in joliet illinois again shout out to cajun mike and i believe tj are we ready to roll yeah we're ready to roll let's get the throwing yeah so so here's how it's going to work we we specifically to make it an even playing field no one has been able to practice what we're going to do is before each group goes we'll start a timer the group gets actually why don't we just say each group goes, we'll start a timer. The group gets – actually, why don't we just say each group gets 10 practice throws before they go. So you guys get 10 practice throws, then we'll go official. Yeah, 10 each.

So they're going to practice while we get ready. 10 total, you have to choose how to divvy. Yeah. He always has a fucking question for you. It's never-ending. Also, he is like the prototypical practice guy out of the whole group. I remember we did bowling, and he went bowling to a bowling alley like the night before.

And then he sucked. And then he did suck. Yeah, and then he lost to Sidney Wells. All right, go ahead and practice. No kid girl. So this is big for him. You know what? We'll just do the time.

We'll do the timer. I'm not knowing how to throw this. I'm setting the timer. You guys got five minutes right now. Five minutes to practice i think kb just slow roll francis francis just hurt what just happened there it seems easy okay five minutes of practice has started so this is an interesting roof because you want to it's a little different than last year obviously with the high noon oh you can't really see it the you get too close, it disappears. Yeah, yeah.

It's going to be almost impossible. If anyone can solve that. The catches off the roof will be a lot easier too, I think. Except for the wire. Ooh. Yeah, that bounces back quick. So we might get some big time scoring, but again, getting it around, cuz that's a ten pointer if you get it around.

Right. If anyone can figure that out, it's gonna be lights out. I think the wire is going to be the thing that trips people up the most. Yeah. Because also it's going to cause some unpredictability when it's coming down and you're trying to catch it. That does, Nick, that bounces off very hard. Yeah.

Really quick. Thanks for saving me azaleas. Steven is agile and athletic. Being short is a little disadvantage here. Steven didn't win the event last year that was adam willis who was the founder of roofball go figure but but a lot of points this is steroid era year yeah steven did trying around second place and he has since crowned himself the roofball king because of that runner-up finish yeah that pissed me off yeah. So if he does not perform well today, that is

You get a chance to catch it, but you have to have your back to the high noon can, and then they'll hit it off, and then you just have to – It's going to be tough to get around it. It rolls off the side of the roof. I feel like we're going to get a lot of sucks. But then does that count if he catches it? Does it count? Yeah, that's a good point.

Deal. And if you can't get it off with that one, it doesn't count as one of your throws, but you get one throw to try to hit your own ball back. Yeah, what if it does count as one of your throws? It doesn't count as one of your throws. What if you catch both balls? No, you have to catch your original ball. Yeah, you have to catch your original ball.

Shut up, Max. How do you know which one's your original? You got to be – All right. So that's the rule. If you get it stuck, it's no points unless you get one extra throw to try to get it off. Yeah. I'll make it fun.
