All the Young Turks, Jake, you're out of Experian with you guys. I'm very excited today. Now look, I'm still six. That's why I'm still in the home studio, okay? I don't I don't know why I put it in air quotes, it is. That's what it is. But it's just two by four. Anyway, but we also have Turks and Jerks today. And I'm also going to participate in that. So is Anna. It comes up right after the show. Who is the absolute jerk of the year? That is super hard. Also, we're going to have sausages in Turks and Jerks, sausages and secret surprises. So it's a bonanza today, a total bonanza. Okay. Casper, you've got the news. Also, So, Bonanza, what is it? Well, we have been keeping the audience up to date on the ongoing debacle involving
Starting point is 00:02:34 congressman-elect George Santos, and boy, the lies just keep coming in. So let's do it, let's talk about it. DA and Donnelly stating the numerous fabrications and inconsistencies associated with Congressman Alex Santos are nothing short of stunning. The residents of Nassau County and other parts of the third district must have an honest and accountable representative in Congress. No one is above the law and if a crime was committed in this county, we will prosecute it. That's right.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Prosecutors in Nassau County, New York have announced that they will be looking into some of the lies that have been told by congressman-elect George Santos, a Republican who won his congressional seat in New York, but it turns out after he won his congressional seat, reports indicated that he lied about pretty much everything, everything from his education, to his wealth, to his charity. And not only are local prosecutors looking into this, there was an announcement by federal prosecutors that there will also be an investigation on their end. Now, according to ABC news reporter Aaron Kuturski, federal prosecutors in Brooklyn have started looking into public filings by congressman-elect George Santos amid questions
Starting point is 00:03:49 about the source of his wealth, sources familiar with the matter told ABC. Now, we had already shared with you guys that he had lied about the college education that he allegedly had. He claimed he went to Baruch College in NYU. He didn't do that. He claimed that he had known people who perished in the Pulse nightclub shooting. That was also a lie. He lied about his family's heritage, claiming that he was Jewish while campaigning.
Starting point is 00:04:16 And then later, after getting caught in that lie, saying that he didn't. mean Jewish, he meant Jew-ish, which by the way, that's also a lie. And according to Kuturski, the sources said, this is not a formal investigation, meaning what the feds are looking into, but a preliminary look at publicly available filings that show vastly different salaries from Santos's first run for office and his second. And I think it makes sense for them to investigate his sources of income jank, because when you consider the fact that he, spent $700,000 on his own campaign, and then you also consider the fact that he lied about his wealth. He claimed that he had 13 properties. Turns out he has zero, he's living with his sister.
Starting point is 00:04:59 You got to wonder where did that money come from? Did he get that money through some fraudulent means? We don't know yet, but I think an investigation makes sense. What do you think? Okay, so there's a lot of super fun things here. So first of all, is he really that different than Donald Trump? I'll get back to that in a second. Second of all, yeah. where did the money come from? I'm very curious about that. But first we start with hilarity. I love how this guy makes stuff up because it's so funny. He's like, his mom is actually Catholic from Brazil. And when he was making up to Jewish story, he's like, no, my, I think it was his grandmother. My grandmother is a Jewish. Yeah, yeah, that's it. That's a ticket. And she's from Belgium.
Starting point is 00:05:49 Yeah, that's it. Okay, I don't know where he pulls his out of, but my favorite is. Our last name used to be Zabbrowski, yeah, that's it. We used to be Zabrowski. Okay. No, I got to get to that because we have more information about additional lies he told. So the name that Jank just mentioned is relevant because he used that name, a fake name, for his charity, which by the way, he lied about it even being a charity. It's not a 501C organization.
Starting point is 00:06:25 So let's talk about that a little bit. So, Jesus, I'm going to skip ahead right now and go to Graphic 4 here. Santos's campaign website states, Georgia's mother was in her office. Oh no, sorry, let's actually skip that for now. Here we go. Let's go to Graphic 5. Sorry about that. Santos said his mother's family, his mother's family's historical Jewish name was Zabrofsky and later appeared to operate a go fund me campaign for a pet charity, which he falsely claimed was a 501c3 nonprofit under that alias. Now experts found no evidence of Jewish or Ukrainian heritage in his family tree. He used the alias of Anthony Zabrofsky for fundraising for this pet charity.
Starting point is 00:07:13 and that was unearthed by CNN. He also told some lies related to 9-11, which I'll get to in just a moment. But, Jank, I wanted to give them that context so you can continue dunking on him. Go ahead. Yeah. I mean, everything about this guy is like, I mean, at a high end, you could say Kaiser Sozan, right? At a low end, clownerrama, he's probably watching like pet cemetery when he comes up with the idea for the pet charity. So, like, should they investigate his finances?
Starting point is 00:07:40 Of course. Everything from like the fake pet charity or is as soon as you have a fake charity, boom, you got authorities must investigate. That's crazy not to investigate. The only reason not to investigate would be, well, he's now a powerful person and we just leave those guys alone, right? And so this, that one's a little bit complicated. I'll come back to it. But but certainly you should do that. But mainly, as Anna pointed out in the beginning, are you kidding me?
Starting point is 00:08:05 You got all this hundreds of thousands of dollars that you gave your own campaign. you used to run a scam in Brazil back in 2011, which authorities are still looking to, you know, find you on. And you live in your sister's basement. So you obviously don't have a lot of money as you were claiming. So where in the world did that money come from? And so it's not remotely controversial to investigate his finances. You'd be nuts not to, right? Which then leads me back to my original point, Anna, which is, is he really that different than Donald Trump? Well, fake charity, Trump had a fake charity, fake university, Trump beats him on that. He said he had 13 properties. Trump claimed to have $10 billion. And I can go on and on and on. They're both pathological liars. Just the reaction to them is slightly different.
Starting point is 00:08:54 And George Santos made the grave mistake in today's political climate, which was to come out, admit guilt and semi-apologize for it, which doesn't play well in politics. And that's a shame because apologizing and admitting that you were wrong, I think shows character. But in the case of Santos, he did a half measure. He's still trying to, you know, brush off some of these lies or make excuses for them. To your point, though, Jank, about how Santos can be compared to Donald Trump, Canadian citizen in our super chat says, Santos is going to be president at this rate. Listen, Canadian citizen, we get to make fun of our country. Okay?
Starting point is 00:09:34 You back off. You got it. I'm just kidding. Make as much fun of it as you want. It's insane what's going on in our political climate right now. Yeah, and by the way, the lies are incredibly similar on almost every count. He said, this guy said he was going to Baruch University in colleges he didn't go to. Donald Trump claimed to be at the top of his class when in reality he literally hides his transcripts and threats to sue anyone who finds out how terrible a student he was. So just outrageous over the top lies. Trump wasn't even claimed to invent the word fake. Okay, so Santos has got nothing on Trump. And remember, Republican voters love being lied to.
Starting point is 00:10:18 If you tell them they're superior and they're the best and everybody else sucks, they will love you forever. So Santos didn't make the mistake of lying. He made the mistake of lying in a wrong direction. if all of his lies were about how awful the others were. And then every Republican would support him. As it is, he's got a little bit of power. So most of the Republican Party is staying neutral here.
Starting point is 00:10:43 But he doesn't have Trump's kind of power. So he won't get the same protection for his lies that Trump gets. So one of the other lies I wanted to bring up was unearthed by Yashir Ali because it looks as though he tried to make it seem as though he lost his mother. to the 9-11 tragedy. So in a tweet from July of 2021, he wrote via Twitter, 9-11 claimed my mother's life, so I'm blocking so I don't ever have to read this again. He tweeted that in response to someone.
Starting point is 00:11:17 But then that same year, on December 23rd, 2021, he writes, December 23rd, this year marks five years, I lost my best friend and mentor. mom, you will live forever in my heart. Now, you can do the math, just subtract five years from 2021. And clearly, that is not when 9-11 happened. And then further, this video should give you some more clarity on how he's clearly lying about how his family was impacted by 9-11. Let's watch. I get emotional.
Starting point is 00:11:50 My parents were both down there the day of the attacks. And fortunately, none of them passed. But to see that the families of those who lost their loved ones will be refused from having a ceremony, which like you said, as part of their support group taken away from them, just strikes to me as a very foolish attempt of Cuomo and the left trying to erase that history. In addition to that, Santos's campaign website states, quote, George's mother was in her office in the South Tower on September 11th, 2001, when the horrific events of that day unfolded, she survived the tragic events on September 11th,
Starting point is 00:12:28 but she passed away a few years later when she lost her battle to cancer. So it's unclear whether he was trying to claim that his mother died from, you know, some of the, you know, toxicity in the air in the aftermath of 9-11. I don't know. But it's clear that he can't keep his story straight because he goes from, you know, saying in one tweet, 9-11 claimed my mother's life to now saying, you know, my mom was there, but she survived. I just, this guy is all over the place. Yeah, I know what he's doing.
Starting point is 00:13:00 He's throwing feces against the wall and seeing what sticks. You know, my mom tragically passed away of cancer a few years after 9-11. A few years, it was 15 years later. The cancer had nothing new with 9-11. The guy, pathological. But by the way, who else told lies about 9-11? Donald Trump. Oh, I saw Muslims celebrating.
Starting point is 00:13:23 I saw it with my own eyes. He went on radio right after 9-11 and bragged about how his building was now the tallest in downtown after the World Trade Center got knocked down. Now you're thinking that's the worst person in the world that brags about that. But the extra seasoning on that is it wasn't true. He was lying. Well, to be fair to Donald Trump, I think he's made it a bunch of. clear to the American people that he suffers the most from size envy all day, every day. Seems like that's all he wants to talk about. So, exactly.
Starting point is 00:13:56 All right, well, let's move on. There's other news today, including this insane story. Two and her needs to leave or you'll be arrested for trespass. Are you kidding? That's a police officer threatening to arrest stranded passengers who are waiting in line to reschedule their canceled Southwest flights. Imagine being stranded and then threatened with arrest. Let's watch more. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:43 Are you filming that? Yeah. Right now. On the unsecured side, the ticket counter will help you with any questions you have. Go. Is this a chance? Yes. You have no ticket, you don't need to be in the secured side.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Let's go. We have tickets. You don't have a ticket just got chaos. Now I want to mention that in the video, it's really hard to pick up on it, but there's a woman wearing yellow and she identifies herself as an attorney. That's going to be relevant as we learn more about this story. Now, the clips are posted online. Later, the individual who posted the video online posted a second video of the encounter and
Starting point is 00:15:23 wrote the following caption on it. Mind you, we left and went to another line after we left the first one. By the way, I should note, this is in Nashville, Tennessee at the airport there. The cop then followed us to this line and picked us out specifically out of a line full of people. We were not the only ones in the second line that came from the first line either. He picked us out. And here is the video that went along with that caption. You said you're going to arrest you for trespasses for being at a ticket counter for a live.
Starting point is 00:15:55 If you don't have a valid ticket, then you're on the secured side or refuse to leave. You will be arrested. We do have tickets. We have valid tickets. They're just not to Washington, D.C. or Phoenix. All right. Well, if your ticket is canceled, you no longer have a ticket. You understand that, right?
Starting point is 00:16:10 Yes, you do, because they resched it. No, they don't. They tell you they're told at the counters that we have to see a CSA. We are told. Right now, Southwest is calling us because you guys are congregated. They're here and they're trying to close that gate. So we're not congregating. We're telling you.
Starting point is 00:16:27 We're in line to get information. Okay. Well, we're telling you, your information is like the ticket counter. Please go to the ticket now. I'm just trying to make the legal connection. All right. There's a TCA called airport and aircraft security that says if you're told to leave and you refuse to leave. With a valid ticket at a ticket.
Starting point is 00:16:41 You don't have a ticket. A valid ticket. Your ticket got canceled. So my ticket, so the instruction we got somewhere else. All right, well, the instruction you're getting now. Can you cite the statute for me so I can make sure that when I go and refer to it, I have a clear understanding, Mr. Awe. It's awful in aircraft security. You don't have a section number of that? I don't need to give you the code. Okay. If you on the attorney, you can look it up. I will. I will. Thank you very kindly. All right. So apologies, that video did not go along with the caption.
Starting point is 00:17:12 I read earlier, but that video does show how the cop is struggling to answer questions, legitimate, credible questions from the passengers who literally just had their flights canceled by Southwest during the Christmas holiday. Why are you threatening to arrest us? We are in line to try to book a different flight so we can get to where we need to go. Now with that said, and you saw in the video, the woman in the yellow identifies herself as an attorney. With that said, this video goes along with the caption I read earlier where the travelers go to a second line and it appears that the cop specifically picks them out in the second line. Let's watch. I have a ballot ticket that says it departs at 1136. Okay, show me your ticket. Is she not doing that
Starting point is 00:17:58 right there? She me a ticket, please. I'm happy to show you my phone. I'm called my mom. I'm gonna have you on speaker because I want you to hear. Okay. Do you practice in Davidson County? Just out of curiosity. You don't have to answer that. Yeah, I know. So safe your plate is for tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:18:23 Safe if your plate gets canceled. It is canceled. Boarding 1227, right? So you're supposed to work. What were you doing at Charlotte said? They, this line was long. They told us to go to any gate, any southwest issue. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:38 So did they tell you your flight? It was canceled? Is that why you are not? I don't know what's going on. It's the time for me right here. Yeah, I want my tickets back in here and I'm going to go talk to him and figure out. Okay, well, then we can go with you. Yeah. You can come with it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Notice how his tone changes once he starts typing something into his phone. He asks the attorney where she's practicing law. He typed something in his phone probably to confirm that she is in fact an attorney. And then his tone changes. He's a lot nicer. He's not threatening arrest out of nowhere. Look, we don't know exactly what went on and why these threats of arrest were happening in the middle of this chaotic situation where Southwest Airlines was canceling thousands of flights and leaving travelers just stranded in airports all across the country during the Christmas holiday. But it's infuriating, Jenk.
Starting point is 00:19:31 I watched that video and I have like PTSD because of how unbelievably awful air travel has become. in the United States with these deregulated mega merger airlines that don't think that they need to do a damn thing about customer service. Yeah, I've been known to have altercations at the airport given how frustrating it can be. And this is the billionth example of it, but it only gets worse and worse and worse. And it trickles, of course, from the top down. And so look, there's two giantly frustrating parts of this. Number one, you get your flight canceled and sometimes those tragic consequences, as we'll see in a little bit. And you're trying to figure out how to get on the next flight. Next thing you know, they're threatening to arrest you.
Starting point is 00:20:21 You're like, wait a minute. First of all, I'm the grieve party. You canceled my flight that I already paid for out of nowhere, destroyed my holidays, and now you're threatening to arrest me? I mean, on that alone, that's just a billion percent insane. But having watched many of those videos, you also see passengers who aren't in any way related to this controversy who are just on a layover and the cops will start rounding them up. Yep. No, whoa, whoa, wait a minute, wait a minute, I'm not on that flight and I'm not on that flight. I'm just on a layover. I'm just trying to get somewhere else.
Starting point is 00:20:54 So this is totally, it's madness. It is. And but, you know, Anna, you're right to point out the oligopolis, et cetera. Because now airlines, since there's no government looking out for any citizen, feel like they can crush you at nauseam. And there's not a goddamn thing you could do about it. Well, I mean, it's interesting because if I were Pete Buttigieg, you know, he's trying to cover his own ass right now because of the lack of oversight that we're seeing from the transportation department, which of course he's the secretary of. and he is not, in my opinion, he doesn't have the expertise or the experience to lead that federal agency, but he is, because this is how our government works, right?
Starting point is 00:21:36 Favor for a favor, dropped out of the race to help Biden out during the Democratic primary. So, of course, he gets a top post within his administration. With that said, you know, if I were Pete Buttigieg, what I would be talking about right now on national television is how Southwest Airlines, in particular, is supposed to give, by law, by law, a refund, a reimbursement, not a voucher, okay, people who have their flights canceled by law are supposed to get a refund. That is what the fine print indicates. But he's not saying that, which I think is fascinating. Why isn't he saying that? Why isn't he making it abundantly clear that Southwest Airlines and all these other airlines that have canceled flights in the
Starting point is 00:22:17 middle of the holiday have a responsibility to give reimbursements to the customers they screwed over? Instead, he's like talking about like, oh, in the summer, we had this verbal agreement. I got this cool dashboard going where you can, you know, look up what kind of, you know, deals or what kind of customer service you can expect from these airlines. Hey, how about you actually enforce the laws? How about you do that? One of the hardest parts of getting older is feeling like something's off in your body, but not knowing exactly what. It's not just aging. It's often your hormones, too.
Starting point is 00:22:51 When they fall out of balance, everything feels off. But here's the good news. This doesn't have to be the story of your next chapter. Hormone Harmony by Happy Mammoth is an herbal formula made with science-backed ingredients, designed to fine-tune your hormones by balancing estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, and even stress hormones like cortisol. Visit happy mammoth.com today and get your old self back naturally. Real nice. Yeah, Anna, so this goes to what is wrong with a lot of American politics right now. So Fox News had a graphic saying that Mayor Pete stranded people, in these different cities. No, he didn't do it. Southwest did it. So you have Fox News lying in a weirdo, needless way to blame Buttigieg for something he didn't do. When it's just sitting
Starting point is 00:24:06 out there for, in terms of blaming him for something he did do, which is the point you're making out, which is he could actually go out there and fight for you guys. Yeah, Southwest did it initially, but he can say, no, they owe you refunds. You know what would happen? People would love that Why don't they do it? Because they're obsessed with serving corporations and their donors. And that's why they don't do things that are super obvious if you're looking to be popular and actually represent the voters. And that's exactly what's wrong with it at current day Democratic Party.
Starting point is 00:24:39 And I mean, for someone like Pete Buttigieg, you can just keep failing upward where Biden will handpick you to lead a department of a federal government agency that you really have no expertise in. So there you have it. That's the way politics works in America. We got to take a break. When we come back, though, we should talk about another passenger who was royally screwed over by Alaska Airlines because his canceled flight led to some serious health ramifications. That and more coming right up. All right, back on TYT, Jay Hugh Ranakusparian and Margaret William with you guys.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Margaret, you're a bit of an American hero. Thank you for joining. It's a good day to join. You can spin, spin, spin the wheel. You might actually win back more than you put in if you became an annual member. Anyways, tyt.com slash join to do that or you can hit the join button below on YouTube. And then you'll get an email to spend the wheel. All right.
Starting point is 00:25:46 Casper, let's go forward. All right. Well, corporate greed has some serious consequences. for human lives. We talk about that theme quite a bit on this show. And the canceled flights during the Christmas holiday weekend is no exception. Because of the fact that thousands of flights were canceled over the weekend, one man, Patrick Holland, who was scheduled to travel to get a heart transplant,
Starting point is 00:26:12 was unable to do so. We should hear from him as he discusses what happened after Alaska Airlines kept canceling his flight from Alaska to Seattle. to Seattle. Let's watch. We got to the airport and it was it was packed, which is unusual. It was it was packed because flights were being canceled. And I didn't realize that until I went to the kiosk and my flight was canceled. And after waiting in line for an hour, panicking, realizing in my flight was leaving in a half an hour, I, I waved down a woman that worked for Alaska Airlines and I told her
Starting point is 00:26:52 the situation, said, hey, I'm on a heart transplant. This is crucial. And she, she waved me to the front of the line. And she said, yeah, your flight has been canceled. And then my heart sank. And she said, I will get you on a plane. And she did. She got me on a plane. And from there, we were, we were diverted about halfway through. I didn't know that because they had announced it, but I guess during my excitement of getting a heart was, uh, yeah. was overwhelming so but uh but that we we uh we were in flight for about four hours and i heard the um the pilot say that hey welcome to anchorage and and i thought he must be really tired because we've been in the air for about four hours and it doesn't take four hours to get
Starting point is 00:27:46 Anchorage. And a lady over her, we'd tell my brother that. And she looked over, she said, my phone says Anchorage. And then I started to panic. And then my phone said Anchorage. Now, Patrick went on to explain that though Alaska Airlines and its staff were incredibly kind to him and did whatever they could, unfortunately, the flights to Seattle kept getting canceled. And I want to be fair because there were a lot of cancellations from airlines like Southwest, for instance, because of the fact that they failed to invest in their operations and they canceled all sorts of flights that didn't need to be canceled. In this case, it appears that the storm had more to do with the cancellations.
Starting point is 00:28:30 But it's so tragic, Jenk, because in the end, Patrick was informed by doctors that they had no choice. The heart would be transplanted to another patient with organs, obviously time is of the essence and they don't want the organ to go to waste. So they have to use it immediately. And in this case, that's what happened. And it's heartbreaking. As someone who knows what it's like to have a close family member need a transplant, you're not calm until the operation finally happens, right?
Starting point is 00:29:03 You're kind of in disbelief. It takes so much to get the transplant, to find a donor. And my heart really goes out to him because I can't imagine how difficult this is. Yeah, it's a heartbreaking story, as sad as it gets, right? And he's such a wonderful guy. He said later, like, no, look, at least he went to someone else and I prayed for them. And, you know, and I feel great for them. But, but it's heartbreaking for him.
Starting point is 00:29:32 And so here, again, to be fair, this one was more about weather. And so that's just the story as old as time and harder to avoid. but it is happening in the midst of many other cancellations that are not about the weather. I don't know if the other cancellations affected this when it's about weather usually not. But I'll tell you, man, everybody's so different. That's one of the things I got from the story. Because if I or someone in my family needed a heart transplant in that situation. I'd be in prison.
Starting point is 00:30:01 Yeah, I'd have like, I'd be checking every flight. I'd be checking every seat. I'd be asking every passenger, can we go ahead of you? I'm keeping a real. And if you think that's rude, yeah, okay, I'll be more polite after my dad or my brother gets the heart. But you know, but that's the other thing, Jank. Obviously, if you're experiencing what this man experienced, I mean, he seems like he handled
Starting point is 00:30:26 it the best he could. He was calm. Not everyone's calm. Some people panic. Some people freak out. And the thing is, you're not allowed to even raise your voice at an airport. That's how insane and how, there's so much. much tension at an airport. All the employees there, all the staff there, they're on edge.
Starting point is 00:30:46 And it feels like they can't wait to call security and get you the hell out of there. If you express any discontent, I don't know, I just, it's like you're not allowed to be a human as you're put in a situation where you're clearly being screwed over. And that happens a lot at airports because there are a lot of cancellations that don't need to happen. There's all sorts of annoying practices that these airlines get away with, including overbooking flights and basically giving you the middle finger if you don't show up before everyone else does, well, we overbooked it. Sorry, you're done. It happens all the time. Yeah, the last thing I'll say on that is that it doesn't have to be this way. We've all just gotten used to the airlines abusing us.
Starting point is 00:31:28 Are they literally, this in industry, I've told you many times it literally has something called a misery index where they try to make you more miserable so you'll pay more to get out of your misery. I've never had any of these moments at a train station. Back when I lived on the East Coast, just take the train all the time. Never one issue, not once, right? On the planes and at the airports dozens of times. Right. Because once you let people abuse you, they will over and over and over and over again. This might not be the best example of it because it was a weather situation. But you're seeing was the Southwest cancellations and the stories we just did about how now they're threatening to arrest anyone who complains at airports, it's brutal and it shouldn't be this way.
Starting point is 00:32:12 The government's supposed to look out for you as these corporations crush you. Well, let's switch gears a little bit because what Jenk just said is the antithesis of the gentleman we're about to talk about. Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus sat down with the Financial Times and basically called modern American workers lazy, fat and stupid. Lovely guy, real lovely. Now he says this in the context of the interview, quote, I'm worried about capitalism. Same, same, but unfortunately we're worried about capitalism from different points of view. For Marcus, he says, thanks to socialism, nobody works. Nobody gives a damn. Just give it to me. Send me money. I don't want to work. I'm too
Starting point is 00:33:18 lazy. I'm too fat. I'm too stupid, he says, of the current workforce here in the United States. Now, it is interesting that he blames it on socialism, which doesn't really exist here in the United States. In fact, our system, which enables corporate greed is just as robust as ever. So I'm unclear as to what he's referring to when he mentions socialism. But, Jank, maybe you can enlighten us on that. Yeah, man, these home people associated with starting Home Depot, questionable dudes, man. It's a bad dude. You ran around with a bunch of bad boys. Yeah. And a lot of them are, not all of them, but a lot of them are. mega Republicans. He's one of them. This guy's the bizarro Bernie. He hates the workers.
Starting point is 00:34:07 They've made an insane amount of money. I believe that they're worth $321 billion. That's the market valuation of Home Depot. What on God's Green Earth are you crying about? Oh, are the workers now demanding to have some rights? It's not like it cost you anything, brother. You've got billions stacked on top of billions, stacked on top of billions. He's like 93 years old. You're 93. Yeah. You know what I'd be worrying about at 93?
Starting point is 00:34:39 Nothing. Nothing. I'd be thinking about what can I do to maximize the last few years of my life? Let's just keep it real. Like really? You don't even work at Home Depot, bro. Like, what are you doing? Step aside.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Move it along. In 93, I'd be worried about one thing, cardiac arrest. Well, yes, I'd be worried about when it's going to be my time. for sure, but that worry would make me, you know, reconsider whether, you know, insulting people who aren't working hard enough at Home Depot makes sense. Like, you know, maybe there's other things I should spend my mental energy on. That's all I'm saying. Anyway, but I want to give you some more of his comments because he says, quote,
Starting point is 00:35:20 capitalism is the basis of Home Depot and millions of people have earned this success and had success. I'm talking manufacturers, vendors and distributors and people that work for us who have been able to enrich themselves by the journey of Home Depot. That's the success. And you know, I want to look into that a little further. How do the workers at Home Depot really feel? I'm sure he's thinking about executives, you know, both at Home Depot and the manufacturing companies that they do business with. But if you actually look at how, workers feel at Home Depot. It's just fascinating stuff. So there's a comparison on indeed between Costco employees and Home Depot employees. Let's go to the second, there we go.
Starting point is 00:36:11 So salary satisfaction, 83% of workers at Costco wholesale are satisfied with what they're getting paid. Only 47% say the same at Home Depot. What about CEO approval? Well, 88% of workers over at Costco are happy with the CEO, 78% say they're happy with Home Depot's CEO. Seems like there might be some issues over at Home Depot in terms of their management style, pay, you know, stuff like that. Yeah, so I think perspectives is so critical here and is never really discussed. So Anna, you nailed, Bernie Marcus is looking at this from the perspective of executives and other company owners, et cetera. And he's not wrong about that. He made tons of money, other executives at Home Depot,
Starting point is 00:37:02 and at other companies made tons of money from Home Depot. That is true. And that's one of the upsides of capitalism. But when he says millions, wait a minute, there are millions of executives. There are millions of employees. But those are the guys you just crapped on. So you're saying Home Depot success should be all be about rewarding executives and shareholders and property owners and the upper class.
Starting point is 00:37:30 But we should not share that success with millions over the course of all these decades of employees at all of those companies. They're the bums. They're lazy. They're fat. I don't want to pay them. I don't want them to have the rights that they should have. So then who does capitalism work for?
Starting point is 00:37:52 In a sense, Bernie Marcus is right. it works for him. It works for everyone he knows. That's why he's like, I don't get it, man. Capitalism is awesome. Everyone I know thinks it's awesome. But it doesn't work for it. One of the hardest parts of getting older is feeling like something's off in your body, but not knowing exactly what. It's not just aging. It's often your hormones too. When they fall out of balance, everything feels off. But here's the good news. Costco pays its workers much more. It never insults them like this. It gives them much better working conditions.
Starting point is 00:39:16 And that's why you're seeing the satisfaction that you are out of the cost. Costco employees, and by the way, customers. And they've also not increased prices during inflation. It's another story that we did. This is not a rando ad for Costco. We're just telling you about two really interesting examples of how capitalism can and does work. If you take it from the perspective of everyone, as Costco does, including the workers and the customers, or if you look at it from how most right wingers look at it, the Home Depot owners, and you only look at the owner class,
Starting point is 00:39:46 then you think, yeah, this is a great system. The only problem is the bum workers and 90% of Americans. So when it comes to Costco, its success and its treatment of workers, I just want to be clear about something because what that requires is executives who are willing to go against the way the system is set up, right? Because look, I try to think of people, especially in the business world, not as good or bad, but just individuals who are motivated by incentives or disincentives. In the way that our system is structured, the shareholders have all the power.
Starting point is 00:40:25 So the fact that executives at Costco, during their earnings call, told agents from Citibank that, no, we're not going to pass off inflationary costs to our customers. We think that's a bad idea. We're not going to do this to maximize profits for the shareholders. We're going to go ahead and keep doing what we're doing because it's a model that's worked for us. That takes principle. That takes a strong person or a strong group of people. And it goes against all of the incentives that executives have in today's, you know, in today's system, really. So I don't know. I don't know if there's a way to maybe change the
Starting point is 00:41:08 fiduciary responsibility. So it actually looks out for, you know, the workers as opposed to the shareholders, I feel like it's impossible to ever see a system like that. But that's what we need, right? No, it's definitely not impossible. It's actually very possible. And other countries haven't. And that's why they're, you know, they perform so much better in almost every ranking in America. The northern European countries that are considered more socialist like Finland, Norway, Belgium, et cetera, including the most important factor, the happiness factor. Their citizens are way, way happier because they have a government that represents that. And part of the way that they do that is they write different laws around how corporations work.
Starting point is 00:41:49 That they that their only goal is not to just maximize profit. Of course, they have to have profit. Otherwise, they'd be out of business, but that they have other responsibilities to stakeholders like employees and their community and their customers. So it's definitely possible. We're just choosing not to do it. And then finally, there is one thing here. Look, I've heard from small business owners too and not just the like nearly bizarre or evil. Bernie from Home Depot that workers are demanding more these days. And that's true. And
Starting point is 00:42:20 and it's partly a supply and demand issue. And now that we're near at full employment, I mean, it's ironic what Bernie Marcus is saying because he's saying they're too lazy. When we're at record employment, almost everyone is employed. That would be the opposite of being lazy. But what he's actually referring to and that I have heard from different business owners are, hey, workers are demanding more and more and we're not used to this. Well, get used to which I would say, exactly, to which I would say, get used to it. It's okay. They're supposed to have higher wages. They're supposed to have better working conditions. And especially if you're at Home Depot where you're making gigantic profits, that shouldn't bother you 1%.
Starting point is 00:43:07 That means you're just sharing a tiny bit more of your record profits with your employees. That's exactly how it's supposed to be. And you get what you give. You want respect. You want your workers to respect you. You want your workers to actually appreciate the company and take pride in it. You got to show them respect. If they feel disrespected, they're not going to respect you. That's the way it works. All right, we got to take a quick break. When we come back, we've got more news, including yes, it appears the Romanian authorities have raided the home of Andrew Tate. That and more coming right up. So, Yugar, before we continue, just wanted to ask you, what is your favorite story in the rundown today? Well, I mean, there's so many great stories, but the Tate one is perfect.
Starting point is 00:45:05 All right, we're gonna actually put that at the bottom of the rundown and move on to other things. All right, all right, in all seriousness, Jake, I know you're not in the studio because you're sick, but let me give you the note that I usually tell you right before showtime. Keep it tight, okay, keep it tight. We've got news to get to. All right, so let's get to the Andrew Tate story. Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been arrested in Romania. In fact, their residence has been raided and we are learning more as the story develops. So in the coming days, I'm sure we're going to have more details about this.
Starting point is 00:45:42 But they have been accused of trafficking women, of holding them captive against their will. And the investigation continues. Apparently the authorities were investigating the Tates because they have. been allegedly trafficking multiple women. According to reports, the investigation first began when the U.S. Embassy in Romania got a tip in April that the Tates were holding a U.S. citizen at their home against her will. The authorities searched the Tate's home and have found that women there, as well as another woman who was trafficked.
Starting point is 00:46:18 So the woman who they initially found out about was in fact there. And there was an additional woman there who alleges that she was also trafficked. Now, I'm going to read you from a translated statement or translated report, I should say, from Romania. It's based on Google Translate, so it might be a little cumbersome, but nonetheless, this is what we know based on local reports from Romania. The police say that the injured persons were allegedly recruited by brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate, who misled them that they wanted a marriage slash cohabitation relationship and that they had real feelings of love for them. The women were allegedly later transported and housed in buildings
Starting point is 00:47:04 through acts of physical violence and mental coercion, intimidation, constant surveillance, control of basically just control of them and where they go, whether they can leave or not. they were sexually exploited by the group's members by forcing them to perform pornographic acts in order to produce and disseminate. So they were filming them in pornographic acts in order to sell, I guess. That's what the allegation is here. Through social media platforms, materials having such a character and by submitting to the execution of a work in a forced manner.
Starting point is 00:47:45 So basically the women in question are alleging that they've been trafficked by. by the Tate brothers, and that's what this investigation is about. Now, why is it that they're only being investigated today? Similar accusations have been floating around for quite some time now. And it turns out that when Andrew Tate decided to go after Greta Tunberg, he ended up telling on himself. Authorities were waiting to see if they could find his exact location. They didn't know whether he was actually in Romania or not. So let's take a look at this tweet from Alejandra Caballero, who says, or Caballo,
Starting point is 00:48:22 who says Romanian authorities needed proof that Andrew Tate was in the country, so they reportedly used his social media posts. His ridiculous video yesterday featured a pizza from a Romanian pizza chain, Jerry's pizza, confirming he was in fact in the country. This is absolutely epic, and I totally agree with her take there. Jenk. So this is amazing. Look, Tate's a douche, and that is acknowledged by nearly everyone, except his fans. And actually, his fans like him for being a douche. So even they acknowledge it. But you're allowed to be one. And so he runs this cheesy webcam business. It feels exploitive. I get it if you hate him for it. But you're allowed to run a webcam business. He has said that women who get raped, that they're partly responsible for.
Starting point is 00:49:18 He just can't be a worse guy. It's just the most awful guy you've ever heard of, right? But that's not illegal. But holding women against their will is definitely illegal. And bringing them in from other countries on false promises and then kidnapping them and forcing them into sex work is about as illegal as it gets. That's sex trafficking, human trafficking, and this dude is rightfully in a world of trouble. Yeah, and in regard to his webcam business, there are allegations of the women,
Starting point is 00:49:53 some of the women at least have been forced to perform in those webcam performances. And obviously they're pornographic in nature, so I'm guessing the report that I read from earlier was referring to that. I also wanted to talk a little more about that scam, a webcam business. So according to a report by the mirror earlier this year, Callis Tristan and Andrew Tate admit their business is a total scam, but say the authorities cannot stop them. They claim to run a studio where 75 lingerie-clad models take calls from fans paying $4 a minute. Punter's can ask for private shows and pay for tips at their own risk.
Starting point is 00:50:34 Some women will claim that they have crippling university debt, a family member in need of private health care, or a dream of moving to the UK, sometimes even telling men they want to meet them. And it turns out that some, if not all, of the women involved were doing so, again, against their will. So I have some more details about this, again, translated from local reports out of Romania. But I wanted to get some more of your thoughts, Jank. I mean, look, this is why it's so important for progressives and broadly speaking the left to offer an alternative to all of these grifters who reach out to disillusioned, discouraged young men who might feel alienated, who might feel lonely. Because if we don't do it, people like Andrew Tate and, you know, to a lesser degree,
Starting point is 00:51:28 Jordan Peterson. I mean, I don't think, I think Jordan Peterson is a little crazy, but I don't think he's a criminal. They're the ones who offer support to these guys. And we don't want that. That's a really bad idea. Yeah. Look, I'm going to tell you something super depressing about that. My kids are 10 and 12, and they've heard of tape. Oh, my God. And so the fact that it's filtering down to even kids like that is gross. And tons of right wingers and young boys who don't, you know, who just haven't been around enough. One of our members wrote and I agree with them like, hey, this is, it's indoctrinating people into believing in old stupid things that they used to teach us, right? And that sucks and that we
Starting point is 00:52:10 thought we were past. But no, they're bringing back all this awful ideas. And my kids do partly know him as the guy who got clowned by their cousin, Asanabe. But that's not why they heard about them. They heard about them because through the great mind of the short videos, etc, et cetera, et cetera. So my point there is it is a toxic poison that is spreading in the culture that a guy this despicable is as out tons and tons of fans and viewers and people fighting that like them online. And and it's that's discouraging for sure. Although Greta Tonberg also set him straight. And by the way, This, I don't know if you've got this one, Anna, but the scam that they run, how they lure them into Romania.
Starting point is 00:52:59 Oh my God, it's disgusting. Yeah, so let me again read to you from a report that was translated from Romania. The Romanian authorities learned that the Tates had a video chat studio, which operated in a building located approximately 500 meters from their villa. Now, several young women were found there. The young women from America stated, or the young woman, I should say, from America, stated that she met Tristan Tate through a social network, and he seduced her and convinced her to buy a plane ticket and come to Romania. She allegedly abandoned her boyfriend and came to live with the British millionaire,
Starting point is 00:53:37 but found herself threatened and forced to work as a video chat model. Frightened, she contacted her ex-boyfriend who in turn notified the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest. So that is how the tip came about. It had to do with an American citizen who traveled there under false pretenses. She was lied to. A former policewoman was allegedly in league with the Tate's and was also arrested. She is accused of, in addition to working side by side with the rest of the models, putting pressure on the girls held in the studio against their will.
Starting point is 00:54:10 So for all the young men out there who look up to Tate and think that he's super cool, just understand that when he's in those videos surrounded by women, it's very likely that those women are there by force. So there's nothing cool about that. There's nothing desirable about a guy like Andrew Tate. He's unattractive, physically, mentally, emotionally. He's a bad guy. And you shouldn't be looking up to him. You shouldn't be inspired by him. He is very likely a criminal and someone who preys on vulnerable women. Yeah. And look, no one looks great in this story. And the way that they got that particular woman to go to Romania is, doesn't speak well of anyone, including her. But just because somebody left their boyfriend to go pursue a rich
Starting point is 00:55:03 guy doesn't mean you get to kidnap them and force them into sex work. That's insane and deeply criminal. I have to say things like that because I guarantee you there are guys out there right now saying, oh, should have come, man, no, nobody has kidnapping and sex trafficking coming to them. That's insane. I can't believe we live in a society where I have to clarify that. By the way, get a load, of course, of the irony of the right wing who claimed that they're so, human trafficking, largely supporting Tate throughout his entire career and it's, and then, and then by the way, it's okay when they do it, Jank. Yeah, of course. And the person fighting against him, of course, we have, Haas has, Greta Thunberg recently has, somebody wrote it out SuperJ,
Starting point is 00:55:54 Lizzie Bennett said, ever since Tate tweeted at Tunberg, he's been getting a series of L's lately, keep them coming. Yeah, I guess he after round and he found out. Yep. All right. Well, we got to take a break. When we come back, the right wing has turned on Sean Hannity, and it is fun to watch. That and more coming right up. content and more by subscribing to Apple Podcasts at apple.com slash t-y-t. I'm your host, Jank Huger, and I'll see you soon.
