Starting point is 00:00:27 L.A., Detroit. We're going to be everywhere. What's up, Caspar? How are you doing? Hey, I'm not going to be everywhere. I'm going to be here. Yes. Anna is headlining our debate coverage over the next two days here in the LA studios.
Starting point is 00:00:40 Bamankw is going to join her. Ida Rodriguez is going to join her. So obviously the regular show starts at 6 o'clock Eastern, but your debate coverage is at 10 o'clock Eastern, because that's when the debates are over. Boom, as soon as the debates are over, you switch to t.com, and you're going to get that analysis. us. John Iderola and I will be in Detroit. We're gonna see you there at t-y-t.com slash rallies is where to sign up for that. I have super exciting news about the people that are coming. New news, new folks coming to the rally that I'm gonna share with you in the next segment.
Starting point is 00:01:14 But make sure you're signing up at t.t.com slash rally. And John will be analyzing from Detroit and I'll be in the spin room in Detroit. And we'll both be at the rally. So it's fun times for everybody. Okay, so that's all the fun. Oh, and one more thing about what's coming up. In the third hour today of the Young Turks, Hillary Clinton's former press secretary. Droms. Interesting. Okay, so if you are watching this or listening to this anywhere where you don't get the third hour of the Young Turks, well, that's what God made Young Turks membership
Starting point is 00:01:47 for, or our head of product, Greg Griffin, who playing the role of God, I suppose, in this case. Anyway, dy.d.com slash join to get all the Young Turks anytime you want. So, let's do it. What does that mean? What does that mean when a child is sitting in their own feces? Can't take a shower. Well, that was Representative Elijah Cummings tearing into the acting head of Department of Homeland Security, Kevin McAlean. And that did not sit well with President Trump, who decided that he was going to go after Cummings.
Starting point is 00:02:26 And you're going to be shocked at this through a series of race. He makes his tweets. Okay, we'll give you what Trump said, and then of course how he is spectacularly wrong. Right. Anna, details. Right. So Donald Trump decided, okay, well, I need something to distract Americans away from this situation. So why don't I focus on what always works well for me, racism?
Starting point is 00:02:49 So he goes after Representative Cummings, who is the chair of the House Oversight Committee, which is why he had an opportunity to grill McAleen in the way he did. And Trump tweeted the following over the weekend, so sad that Elijah Cummings has been able to do so little for the people of Baltimore. Statistically, Baltimore ranks last in almost every major category. Cummings has done nothing but milk Baltimore dry, but the public is getting wise to the bad job he is doing. Now, of course, he didn't provide any evidence of everything he wrote there was completely
Starting point is 00:03:22 and utterly misleading. And he was encouraged, in my opinion, by a conversation that took place on, for the fact, Fox and Friends. And I want to show you exactly what that conversation looked like. So what did you find was going on in Cummings District? Yeah, so, you know, there is a crisis at the border, but there's also a crisis in Baltimore. And I don't think many people realize this, but Congressman Cummings represents the most dangerous district in America. So I went into the district to basically ask people if they were scared of Trump. Congressman Cummings said on a talk show last Sunday, I believe,
Starting point is 00:03:56 that his constituents were afraid of Trump. And as I go in and I start talking to people, I realize just what the living conditions are for not just the residents, but even the children there and what they've been playing around. There's abandoned row homes filled with trash, homeless addicts, empty needles that they have used. And it's really right next door. So it's attracting rodents, cockroaches, you name it. But you know, to have Congressman Cummings talk about the situation at the border is just, it's laughable, because the condition is in his own district, and a lot of people said he hasn't even been there in a while. So there is a poverty issue in Baltimore.
Starting point is 00:04:34 There's also a poverty issue in various parts of Mississippi, various parts of Oklahoma, various parts of red states throughout this country. There are poverty issues in California, in Los Angeles, specifically where I live, where 60,000 people are living out on the streets. There's a poverty issue in America, and Donald Trump has only exacerbated that poverty issue by ripping funding away from programs that are meant to help people living in poverty just to give the wealthy $2 trillion in tax cuts. And we'll get to all of that in just a second. But he decided to double down on this whole notion of Elijah Cummings being the problem. And again, this is not about Elijah Cummings, it's not even about poverty for Donald Trump.
Starting point is 00:05:14 It's about a distraction. But one of the more recent tweets was, if racist Elijah Cummings, he called Elijah Cummings, racist. If racist Elijah Cummings would focus more of his energy on helping the good people of his district, and Baltimore itself, perhaps progress could be made in fixing the mess that he has helped to create over many years of incompetent leadership. His radical oversight is a joke. And look, these attacks against Representative Cummings are wrong, they're inaccurate and
Starting point is 00:05:44 they're beyond unfair, but the way that Cummings has responded to Trump shows that Democrats have no idea how to battle this type of monster. I just want to give you a quick example. Just yesterday I held a hearing on the skyrocketing prices of prescription drugs and the financial hardships that families across the nation and in Baltimore are facing. Mr. President, we can address this together two years ago. I went to the White House to ask you to endorse my bill to let the government negotiate directly for lower drug prices.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Why are we having a conversation with Trump as if he is a mature adult worth having a conversation with? He is an authoritarian, he is a child. And he's hitting below the belt for political purposes. He's not interested in having a debate about lower pharmaceutical drug prices. Of course. All right, so bringing this down a little bit further. First of all, you can selectively edit any area of the country and show, oh my God, look at
Starting point is 00:06:40 how poor it is. Here's a garbage can and garbage around the garbage can. Or by the way, serious issues of poverty. In fact, in Los Angeles, you could easily go within a two mile perimeter. And if you wanted to show the most beautiful houses on the planet and the most beautiful areas you've ever seen, and within the same two miles, absolute poverty, people living in tents, under bridges, et cetera. So then if you wanted to, you could say, L.A. is the most gorgeous place on Earth.
Starting point is 00:07:08 Look at this part of the L.A. that I'm showing you. Or you could say L.A. is the worst crime-ridden poverty-stricken area in the country. You can do that with anywhere, okay? So, Fox News, this is what they do. This is propaganda 101, from Roger Ailes on down. They've been doing this from the inception of Fox News, and they continue after Ails Reign is over, and this is client, they bring on an African American woman to attack an African American community, which is also Fox News 101.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Now, the president is a Fox News advocate, an ardent viewer. He watches that an hour later. He tweets the same exact thing Fox News was talking about on Fox and Friends, and he says, It says, you know, it talks about how it's rodent infested and the crime is out of control. It's all the exact same things that Fox News said. So we have one of the biggest conspiracy theorist Fox viewers as the president of the United States. So he goes and does this. Now how many times has he done this when it is congresspeople of color, almost every time.
Starting point is 00:08:12 He also attacked John Lewis's district and other legendary African American congressman as being riddled with crime in a poor area. Now, did he actually do any of the studies on that? Of course not. Did he look up the stats? Of course not. And so the reality is that Cummings District, half of it is in the city of Baltimore. All of it is in Baltimore County, but some of the areas are suburban, et cetera.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Trump doesn't care. He's like, black guy must be a terrible dirty place. I saw it on Fox. Hey, there's another guy, black guy, John Lewis, must be dirty, terrible place. Hey, look, Iyana Presley, Alhan Omar, Rashida-Talib, AOC, why don't you go back to the countries you came from, which is America, by the way, anyway, where they're all dirty, et cetera. And what is it? The conservative mind is most triggered by the emotion of disgust.
Starting point is 00:09:02 So second most by fear. So that is why Fox News uses those loaded words. Now, Trump doesn't know any strategy, but he instinctually knows. Oh, and he himself is a germaphobe. A classic conservative mind, filled with, if you will, littered with fear and disgust. So he's like, ooh, code words, oh, it's dirty, Baltimore's dirty. All the black countries and all the black districts are dirty with crime and dangerous, triggering disgust and fear.
Starting point is 00:09:30 And conservative viewers love it, and that's what made Fox News number one, that's why they love Donald Trump so much, because he's racist in the same exact way, they're racist. So my question to those conservative Trump supporters is, are you disgusted with yourself? Because chances are you're living in part of the country that's also coping with rising homelessness, unaffordable housing prices, just squalor everywhere, a lack of funding for programs that actually keep cities clean and safe. I mean, we're dealing with this throughout the country. So take a good, hard look at the community that you live in, because chances are you probably
Starting point is 00:10:07 see it right outside your doorstep. And so what has Trump done to help alleviate these issues? Nothing, if anything, he has exacerbated them. I mean, just last week we did a story about how the Trump administration is kicking three million people off of food assistance or food stamps. Why do you think he's doing that? You think he's doing that to help lift people and pick them up by the bootstraps? No, he's doing that because he's looking for ways to save money after he gave the wealthy
Starting point is 00:10:34 two trillion dollars in tax cuts. And by the way, Donald Trump seemed to think that Obama needed to take responsibility for what was going on in Baltimore when Obama was the president. Now that Trump is the president, what's the issue? Why isn't he taking responsibility for poverty in America? And I wanna go back to some of Trump's old tweets from 2015, starting with Graphics 7. So in April of 2015, Trump tweeted the following, our great African American president hasn't exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying
Starting point is 00:11:07 Baltimore. What about you, Trump? You got elected in 2016. What have you done about the so-called thugs in Baltimore? Let me give you more. April 2015 again, President Obama, you have a big job to do. Go to Baltimore and bring both sides together with proper leadership, it can be done, do it. What about you, Donald Trump?
Starting point is 00:11:28 What are you doing to bring both sides together? If anything, he's capitalizing and exploiting division in America. And then finally, can we drop Donald Trump off? So he's tweeting someone or quoting someone who said, can we drop Donald Trump off in the middle of Baltimore so he can show Obama how it's done? I would fix it fast. Oh, you would, Trump. You would fix it fast.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Well, you're president, what are you doing to fix it fast? Well, it's been two and a half years, so is two and a half years fast? Do you not care about the people in Baltimore? Do you know that Baltimore's in the United States of America, the country that you're president of, he makes it sound like it's a foreign country, and in his mind it is. So look, it's, I'm tired of pointing out his racism, it's- Same. But he keeps doing it, so we're left with no choice at all, right? So if you're wondering, why is the attacking Elijah Cummings in the first place?
Starting point is 00:12:23 He's not randomly picking African Americans, or he's not picking random African-Americans, He's being ones that are in his mind being not over deferential enough to him. If you bow down to him, then he's got no problem with you, or great, go on Fox News, you'll be fantastic, even better if you attack other blacks, okay? But if you're a strong advocate for Democratic Party or progressive issues or the African American community, then he's gonna come for you. And when he does, that's when the racism kicks in. So guys, I know that a lot of people think, oh my God, it's strategy and he's trying to rile
Starting point is 00:12:56 up his base. And by the way, pundits, this is an important aside. When Trump goes to rile up his base, you always think like, oh, strategy, good thinking, and I don't agree with it, it's not morally right, but all you see the strategy he's using. When Democrats go to rile up their base, you're like, stupid, don't do that, don't do that. Riling up a base, which is a terrible idea? Wait, which one is it, okay? So, but it is not just based on his base, no, it's his instinctual reaction.
Starting point is 00:13:23 These are the stereotypes he's had in his head forever. That's why he doesn't like black people, it doesn't like Latinos, he doesn't like Muslims, unless you have a lot of money, in which case he's like, oh yeah, I'll make a deal. As long as you give me money, I'm okay with it. But listen to his original tweets. He said, Representative Ologa Cummings has been a brutal bully shouting and screaming at the great men and women of the border patrol about conditions of the southern border, when actually his Baltimore district is far worse and more dangerous.
Starting point is 00:13:51 So let me pause there to point out. See, he didn't like it when Cummings was pointing out the terrible conditions. So this is his way of doing a strikeback. Like, oh yeah, Baltimore's even worse. Why is it worse? Because it's black. I mean, I'm sure that Fox is right about the rodents, et cetera. In fact, he continues.
Starting point is 00:14:08 His district is considered the worst in the USA. As proven last week during a congressional tour, the border is clean, efficient, and well-run, just very crowded, that's again because of Trump. The coming district is a disgusting rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous and filthy place. So look, my issue with this story, and this story literally, I've had enough, I've had enough. Because every week, it's something new.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Last week, it was Trump going after the so-called squad, telling them to go back to where they came from. The week before that, it was some other racist story. So the question is, how does the media appropriately handle and cover these types of stories? Let's not waste our time with the debate. Donald Trump is racist, but hey, this is a great opportunity to talk about a real problem in America, aside or b-side racism, which is poverty. He is drawing attention to poverty, so let's focus on that.
Starting point is 00:15:06 But the media doesn't do that. Instead, they have the same panels on with the same people who have the same debate about whether or not Donald Trump is racist. He's racist, okay? Okay, welcome to 2015, he's racist, okay? I know you're late to the party, but the same debate is getting real tired for the vast majority of Americans who are suffering from the economic injustice in this country. So you said welcome to 2015, which is appropriate.
Starting point is 00:15:31 It's now obviously 2019, but he was racist in 2015 when he was doing the birth of conspiracy theory. Of course, right? And when he was, and he's such a buffoon, oh, I'll fix it fast, Baltimore, I'll fix it. Now that he's president, oh, Baltimore's the worst. And it's because of black people like Cummings and the people that live in there, right? Hey, what, okay, then why don't you go fix it fast? And you don't imagine if a liberal called a red state or a red city the worst in the USA,
Starting point is 00:16:01 heads would explode if we were like those losers down in Mississippi. What a bunch of losers, they're the worst. By the way, statistically, Mississippi, long run by Republicans, is the worst. Mississippi and Alabama are almost always at the bottom. Statistically, they are horrific when it comes to poverty and almost every other metric, right? Now, go ahead, Republicans, you're not going to get it, but actually they don't care about hypocrisy. They'll get outraged by it today.
Starting point is 00:16:32 They'll take that clip. But can you believe it? Can you believe it? This is the real America's Alabama, Mississippi. Not like goddamn Baltimore filled with black people. I mean that. Like, oh, yeah, just theoretically, I'm against Baltimore, but you're not allowed to criticize any red state. Well, God damn it, no way.
Starting point is 00:16:48 And the right response to that, Jank, is then why don't you love Mississippi and Alabama? Why do you continue to see Mississippi and Alabama dealing with the economic conditions it's dealing with? Why have Republicans turn their backs on Alabama and Mississippi? Right, that's the right response. But Democrats are playing hopscotch, right? They're playing games. They're talking about, oh, Mr. President, maybe we can work together. for this and that.
Starting point is 00:17:11 There's no working together. There's no working together. We don't have people fighting right now on the right side. And every time there is a member of Congress who does fight like members of the squad, they get beaten down by their own party. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of having the same debate every single week.
Starting point is 00:17:30 Well, look, a lot of the people on the mainstream are now beginning to flip because they're sick of it. Even I've had Peter Dow on this program, well, the biggest Hillary Clinton advocates in 2016. He is flipped, and he's like, they're losers, you're right. I'm paraphrasing here. But the Democratic leadership is weak. Now today, in the third hour, I'm going to have Brian Fallon on it. He's the press, was the press secretary for Hillary Clinton.
Starting point is 00:17:53 He's flipped, saying, I can't take it anymore. The weakness of the Democrats is stunning and unacceptable. Again, I'm paraphrasing, watch the whole Young Turks. If you don't get the whole show, t.com slash join and become a member and watch all of it. Look, I used to go on media and criticize Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, and I'd get blowback. Like, oh, don't you, those are the beloved geniuses running the Democratic Party. Now I go on, even in radio in San Francisco, all the callers light up going, God damn it, when
Starting point is 00:18:23 are they ever going to fight for us? And the reality is almost never. So just being outraged and offended, we're exhausted from it. We actually need you to take action against Donald. Trump. Let's take a break, but when we come back, we are going to talk about the giant hypocrisy of the Kushner family and how it owns property in Baltimore, essentially slumlords in Baltimore. And then we are going to get into a deep dive about the economic situation for the majority of Americans and how economic injustice is something that's fueled by the Republican.
Starting point is 00:18:58 We need to talk about a relatively new show called Un-F-The Republic or UNFTR. As a young Turks fan, you already know that the government, the media, and corporations are constantly peddling lies that serve the interests of the rich and powerful. But now there's a podcast dedicated to unraveling those lies, debunking the conventional wisdom. In each episode of Un-B-The-Republic or UNFTR, the host delves into a different historical episode or topic that's generally misunderstood or purposely obfuscated by the so-called powers that be, featuring in-depth research, razor-sharp commentary, and just the right amount of vulgarity, the UNFTR podcast takes a sledgehammer to what you thought you knew about some of the nation's most sacred historical cows.
Starting point is 00:19:46 But don't just take my word for it. The New York Times described UNFTR as consistently compelling and educational, aiming to challenge conventional wisdom and upend the historical narratives that were taught in school. For as the great philosopher Yoda once put it, You must unlearn what you have learned. And that's true whether you're in Jedi training or you're uprooting and exposing all the propaganda and disinformation you've been fed over the course of your lifetime.
Starting point is 00:20:14 So search for UNFDR in your podcast app today and get ready to get informed, angered, and entertained all at the same time. All right, back on a young Turks, Jenkin Anna with you guys. A collecting Michelinia writes in on our member section. I'm so glad to be watching TYT again live with my TYT family after spending the weekend with my Republican in-laws. It didn't even take five minutes from my wealthy father-in-law to start attacking the new cannabis cannabis legalization law in Illinois and the gas tax there growing up a whopping 19 cents. Even though it will create thousands of infrastructure jobs and fix crumbling roads, maybe I should gift them a TYT subscription. Exactly right.
Starting point is 00:21:01 Okay, t-y-t.com slash gift, if you want to do that. Porkchop Express says, Trump supporters do not associate him with the government to them. Trump is his own entity, and the government is what's causing all of this, not him. Then let's never elect another Republican ever again, because they say, well, I'm not part of the government. Well, then what are you doing as the head of the government? Exactly. And if you're not going to fix anything, shut up and go home. I guess you should, Pelosi says he's doing self-impeachment.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Just do self-impeachment, which is a resignation and just go home. But of course, he's not doing that. Instead, he's driving the government into the ground and then complaining about it. Real quick, this is why I love Parks and Recreation, right? That show, because Ron Swanson is like this anti-government libertarian, but he is like the head of the Parks and Recreation Department. Yep. That's America, in a nutshell. Yeah, indeed.
Starting point is 00:21:55 Kiki Lutfisk says on Twitter, I live in Mississippi. Republican leaders tell us everything is great in Mississippi and that the liberal media is the only problem we have. It's such a joke. Oh yeah, the liberal media. Yeah, yeah, the liberal media is what made Mississippi the poor state and the nation. Sure, that's lightly. Joya Genaluski, right, said, on my way to Detroit right now, can't wait to meet Jank Ugar
Starting point is 00:22:19 and John Adirola. Thank you, Joy, I appreciate it, and let me tell you how you can do that if you're so inclined. So the next Democratic debates are tomorrow. We're gonna have live coverage, of course, on t.wit.com slash live, but John Idle and myself will be in Detroit, and we're not only gonna be covering the debates and in the spin room talking to the actual candidates themselves, but we're also gonna be holding a rally, as we did in Miami before the debates, but only one night, that's tomorrow night on July 30th. And so you could find out more at t.t.com slash rally and sign up.
Starting point is 00:22:54 And if you're among the first set of organizers to arrive, the first hundred people that arrive at the Weston and you'll get information if you sign up at t.ot.com slash rally are going to get a free debate watch party. Will you be able to watch the debates, have some pizza and food and drinks? I don't believe they're alcoholic, I don't think we're that rich, but we do provide free pizza for you guys and then watch the Young Turks coverage after debates as well. That's for the first 100 people. And I want to tell you about some of the great speakers. So Weston book Cadillac hotels where you gotta be at 415. If you wanna join us later, there's no problem. We're in front of the auditorium where the debates are being held, and the rally itself starts
Starting point is 00:23:35 at 6.30, okay? And the speakers now is Abdul al-Saeed, who was a great progressive, who ran for governor in Michigan, he's gonna join us. Now, Varshani Prakash, who is the head of the Sunrise Movement, they're having a huge rally and they're gonna bring their folks to our rally, Varshani's gonna speak. Then you've got Adam Green just joined today from P-Triple-C, all these wonderful progressive groups, Alex Rojas from Justice Democrats, and we might have more surprise speakers as we go along here.
Starting point is 00:24:06 So it's going to be what could be potentially a huge rally of these wonderful progressive groups working together to demand the presidential candidates and all of our politicians work towards actual progress. Be there, you'll be on camera with the young Turks and see it in person. And one other thing I've got to tell you guys, only the people that are there and members can see the whole rally. We are not carrying the rally live in this case as we have in other instances. We will show you portions of it throughout our debate coverage.
Starting point is 00:24:37 But if you want to watch the whole rally, either be there or be a TYT member, tyt.com slash join. Those are the only two ways you can watch the full rally, okay? So we hope we see you guys there tomorrow and look forward to both nights of coverage on the Young Turks Tuesday and Wednesday as we cover both debates. Also for anyone who is wondering, hey, what can I do to have? help TYT because it's very much a audience-backed show. Without our audience, without people getting involved, we couldn't be able to do what we do.
Starting point is 00:25:06 One of the ways you guys can continue supporting TYT is through taking a look into our partners. We're very picky with our partners, which is why we chose to work with aspiration as a financial institution that we promote. It is a wonderful institution for all the reasons that I've mentioned before. They will not charge you fees, they will give you a 2% interest rate on your savings account, and more importantly, they do not invest your money in any type of shady corporation, including fossil fuel companies. And by the way, we had been giving an extra perk to individuals who weren't previously members. We would give them one month of free membership. And then people
Starting point is 00:25:41 who are already members were wondering, well, what do I get? Do I get anything for it? And we are actually going to offer you guys a $10 credit at the shop, TYT store. So if you're already a member, Just check out Aspiration.com slash TYT. You have to sign up at that URL. And then you can contact us at tyt.com slash free 30. That's where you'll have all the information. Send us a note. Let us know that you opened the account and you'll get a $10 credit for ShopTT.
Starting point is 00:26:08 All right, let's do it. All right. Donald Trump decided to attack Representative Elijah Cummings and he blamed the representative for poverty in Baltimore, which was fascinating and also incredibly hypocritical, considering the fact that Jared Kushner, his own son-in-law, owns quite a bit of property in Baltimore. Now, since he became a senior White House advisor, he had to supposedly take himself out of that family business.
Starting point is 00:26:38 But the Kushner company, again, owns a lot of property that has run into code violations and issues in Baltimore. According to the Washington Post in 2017, Baltimore County officials revealed that apartments owned by the Kushner firm were responsible for more than 200 code violations, all occurred in the span of that calendar year. Repairs were made only after the county threatened fines, local officials said, and even after warnings, violations on nine properties were not addressed, resulting in monetary sanctions. There's more. Tenants of the Kushner properties reported mouse infestations, mold problems, and maggots.
Starting point is 00:27:17 A private investigator who looked into Kushner's property management company, Westminster Management, described the managers as slum lords. Now that is particularly ironic given that Donald Trump tweeted about how Baltimore was rodent infested and filthy. Well, partly due to your family, literally, and the investigations into his properties, seem to indicate that they are among the worst in the state of Maryland. And that's why they're being called slumlords. So they get sanctioned 17 different times, and in nine of the cases, they wouldn't fix
Starting point is 00:27:54 it no matter what, and they got fined. And even after that, still delays in fixing it. And that's why they call some of the folks who run these low-income properties and put no time and effort into it, slumlords, it's not because they're lazy, it's because they don't care about the miserable conditions, and they'd rather take the fine than spend the money to make the conditions bearable. They think these are just poor people. We take their money and we give them nothing in return.
Starting point is 00:28:22 They have no power, there's nothing they can do about it. In fact, there's an even worse twist to this story in a second. So actually, let's get right to that because the Kushner company essentially acts as slumlords. They do not take care of these code violations. People are living in squalor because of the mismanagement of the properties. And by the way, they own as many as 9,000 rental units in Baltimore. Well, the Washington Post is reporting that the Kushner firm and its affiliated entities have been sued multiple times by Baltimore area residents who allege that the company has charged them excessive fees and used the threat of eviction to pressure them into paying. So to give you an example of how aggressive Kushner company has been, from 2013 to 2017, corporate entities associated with Kushner apartment.
Starting point is 00:29:10 requested the civil arrest of 105 former tenants. So get a load of this. So they got 17 complexes, nine of them, even if they're fine, they don't do anything about. And they let people live with maggots in the building and rodents everywhere in the building. And they don't care. They don't get arrested over that, even though they won't do what the government told them to do. Bare minimum sanitary conditions, right?
Starting point is 00:29:38 And they turn around, and if for some reason they think you didn't pay the excessive fines that they imposed on you in the building, they say, I want the government to arrest that person. Now, I said, wait a minute, you can't get arrested for having private debts. If you owe the government money, you can be arrested, but you can't be arrested if you own a private citizen or a company money. So how are they doing this? Ironically, it's the swamp. So what they do is, they go to the government, they say, because this guy has, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:08 hasn't paid me and have them show up in court. And folks, oftentimes, they don't even live there anymore. That's why they're former tenants. They get the notice about the court appearance in the wrong place, et cetera. They don't show up. If they don't show up twice, they go, aha, that's the loophole I needed. See, that was an offense against the government for not showing up in court. So I'm gonna do what's called a body attachment, which sounds terrible, and I'm gonna have
Starting point is 00:30:35 you arrested for the money you owe me privately. I'm gonna use the power of the government, not to fix your apartment, not to fix your housing, but to arrest you afterwards. Right. So you're taking both your life into your own hands, given how unsanitary Kushner's buildings are, if you ever live in them. But afterwards, you're also taking your liberty into play here. Because if you have a dispute over what you owe him, he'll have you arrested by his thugs.
Starting point is 00:31:04 And then using the government for their own private gains, they have no problem with that. Complying with government regulations for sanity? No way, no way they're gonna do that. And then they'll turn around and have Trump talk about how Baltimore is rodent infested and dirty. Yes, thanks to your dirty, miserable family. And I just wanna give you the statement from Kushner Coe because, you know, let's be fair. The Washington Post did reach out to them. And they did give a statement, and it says the following, Kushner Companies is proud to own thousands of apartments in the Baltimore area.
Starting point is 00:31:40 Oh, wow. That was their statement. They don't care about people living in squalor. The Trump administration does not care about poverty. They don't care about any of it. What Trump has done successfully in 2016 and what he will continue to do, hopefully people are smart enough to catch on at this point, is pretend like he cares. He exploits all of the different systems in place that keep people in poverty. He loves it, and he'll continue exploiting it.
Starting point is 00:32:07 So let's talk about poverty in America a little bit. Donald Trump attacked Representative Elijah Cummings for what he perceives to be out of the ordinary poverty in Baltimore. In reality, poverty is something that many Americans throughout the country are facing, whether they live in Democratic districts or Republican districts. In fact, if you live in a Republican district, chances are you're more likely to experience poverty. But I don't want to focus on the partisan component of this. I want to focus on a government that hasn't done anything for the vast majority of Americans
Starting point is 00:32:42 when it comes to economic justice. So just a few numbers for you that I think are important. Eight out of ten states with the lowest poverty levels are actually blue states, but let me Let me also say that in California, in Los Angeles specifically, we have 60,000 people living out on the streets. So poverty is a huge problem everywhere. But if you look at poverty as a whole, eight out of ten states with the lowest poverty levels are blue states.
Starting point is 00:33:08 And eight out of nine states with the highest level of poverty are red states. That's according to census data. So I'm also tired of Democrats playing nice. So the point, first of all, no Democratic official would ever point that out. The media points that out, sometimes very rarely, good job in this case, and then moves on because they don't have an agenda. Okay, correct way of doing it is Democrats should hold a press conference about how eight out of the nine poorest states in the country are red states, and ask why Republican party
Starting point is 00:33:39 officials are such miserable failures. It's your states that are in miserable, poverty-stricken conditions. And you guys have been in charge for 40 years in those states. And are you ever going to fix them, you miserable failures, you losers who are obviously creating miserable conditions in the places that you operate? You don't believe in government. Well, no wonder your government doesn't work in any of those states. Right.
Starting point is 00:34:06 Democrats will never do that because they'll go, oh my God, then they'll say we're against Americans. No, Trump is against Americans. Yes. That live in Baltimore. Yes. They're just as American as anyone who lives anywhere in Mississippi. Well, he's against Americans, period.
Starting point is 00:34:21 He's against Americans who are living in poverty because remember, it's Trump who keeps touting the economy. It's Trump who claims the economy is doing really, really well. Everyone's really successful. As the homeless rate increases throughout the country, as people are unable to afford food for their families, don't believe me, let's take a quick look at Trump and the compilation of him bragging about how great the economy is. It's said now that our economy is the strongest.
Starting point is 00:34:48 it's ever been in the history of our country. You know why they're coming up, right? Because we have created the strongest economy in the history of our country. So they're coming because they want a piece of it. Think of it. We have the strongest economy in history, the lowest unemployment numbers ever. Each of you is coming of age at a time of unlimited possibility. It's true. Better than I think ever before. Our country is doing phenomenally well. We're going all the way. We're going all the way. you look at what's happening outside of the United States, it's not a pretty picture. America's thriving, America's booming,
Starting point is 00:35:25 and America is winning again and winning like never before. It's never been winning like this. Alma McNeely used to have a good factory job. Now she recycles cans for extra money. We have the highest stock market in the history of our country. And a lot of you with 401Ks. And that's not a rich people thing.
Starting point is 00:35:47 The people that own that soccer, people with 401Ks, everything else. You always got to start at the bottom of the totem boat. Well, you don't. Or we started out the bottom, so that's where we got to start. But rich people, most of them didn't start out the bottom. No, they started at the top and stayed at the top. Your front yard looks like a lake. He looked, wasn't it yesterday.
Starting point is 00:36:09 When it rains, the rest of the town's waist backs up into the Halcombe's yard. I hear that. This is soot, okay? That might be where he was through this soot in him. The whole middle of the country is red. You saw that in the clip. That clip was fantastic. The whole center is all bright red, meaning Republican, all red.
Starting point is 00:36:34 And those little edges are blue. All those photos that you just saw in that video to juxtapose or to conflict and tell the truth about what the state of the economy is came from a Twitter user by the name of Ben, no more, no less, and we're going to get into his tweets in just a second. But he took photos of the poverty throughout the country, throughout various states to show what the reality is for most Americans. And a lot of the pictures are from places that Mitch McConnell is representing and some of the top Republican leaders.
Starting point is 00:37:09 And so what happened now? I thought it was just Baltimore. No, and let's talk about Baltimore for one second. Trump says the economy is great, but Baltimore is dirty and miserable and poverty-stricken. So is it not true that the economy is great? Or is the economy great, but not for Baltimore, and you didn't care to fix it? You thought, oh, I don't, that's a blue district or that's a black district, I don't care. I just want my rich friends who have all their money in the stock market to do well.
Starting point is 00:37:39 And if you're in miserable conditions, I'm never going to fix it. Even though back in 2015, he said, if he was president, he could fix Baltimore fast. And obviously he hasn't. But guys, the most important thing is, it isn't about Baltimore. Poverty is everywhere across the country in red states. And yes, of course in blue states, because all of our leaders have betrayed us. They did. They gave everything to the rich and they set the rules so that the top 1% would get almost
Starting point is 00:38:08 all of the gains. Under Obama, that was also true. I remember during the economic recovery in the year 2010, 93% of the gains went to the top 1%. So under George W. Bush, under Obama, under Clinton, now under Trump, even worse, the top 1% get everything, and then brag about what a great economy they have for themselves while the rest of the country lives in poverty. Exactly. So I want to just quickly go through some of the tweets coming from that account I was telling
Starting point is 00:38:36 you about earlier. It was to draw attention to the fact that there are many people living in poverty. in a lot of red districts throughout the country. So let's go to Graphic 11. I can't believe the conditions in Baltimore. Wait, I'm sorry, these aren't from Baltimore. They're from places, from the places Jim Jordan and Senate. Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell represent.
Starting point is 00:38:58 Jim Jordan is one of the biggest right-wing hacks in Congress who loves to support Donald Trump. Well, what happened? Jim, why don't you go back to where you came from and fix it? I mean, people are living in poverty. Aren't you going to do anything about it, Jim? No, no, Jim Jordan's got to get those taxes for the rich. That's his donors. That's what kind of a sellout Jim Jordan is, let alone Mitch McConnell, which everybody knows.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Even the people in Kentucky know, all he ever does is work for the rich. So he also shared photos from Matt Gates' district and Lindsay Graham's district. There you go. Or Lindsey Graham's State, I should say. Then you can go ahead and look at the next tweet where he shows more photos. Representative Doug Nunez and Representative Doug Collins represent this part of the country. I mean, the list goes on and on. But again, it's not about Democrats versus Republicans.
Starting point is 00:39:53 It's about poverty in America. It's about Republicans raping and pillaging and Democrats just sitting idly by and allowing it to happen or in some cases even assisting them with it. 100%. Right? So, look, guys, so why don't the Democrats do what I said in the beginning of this story? rip into the Republicans for their horrible management of the red states. Well, that's because they would upset the donors. The donors don't want you to have increased taxes that can actually rebuild the infrastructure
Starting point is 00:40:20 of any of those states, blue or red. The donors don't want regulation that might protect the environment in the area. That's why they say, oh, even for the Democratic donors, they say I'm socially liberal, but I'm economically conservative. That's Silicon Valley. Yeah, and so socially liberal means I don't hate black people, I'm not gonna do anything for them, but I don't hate them. I don't hate gay people.
Starting point is 00:40:41 I'm not gonna do anything for them, I just don't hate them. But hey, don't touch my money, don't touch my money, right? And so, that's why we've had wealth redistribution in this country to the very top. Corporate tax rates used to account for about 35% of the taxes being paid in the country. It is now below 10%. They fixed the laws and the rules through their campaign donations, so corporations pay less, the rich pay less, guess who pays more? Payroll taxes have gone up dramatically as a percentage of taxes paid.
Starting point is 00:41:11 Who pays the payroll tax? The poor and the middle class. It doesn't even go past a certain limit. So it stops the rich pay the least in payroll taxes, a percentage of their income. So they're like, perfect, let's rob from the middle class and give it to the richest people and then complain about poverty in Baltimore. Look around. Look around in the red states.
Starting point is 00:41:32 Look around in the whole country. The bottom 99% of this country is in disastrous shape because our wages have not gone up in 40 years. Exactly. So we have higher rate, we pay higher rates in taxes, and then at the same time our wages have remained stagnant. And it's reflected in various statistics and various studies that are done, like the study that was done by the Federal Reserve, 40% of Americans wouldn't be able to cover a $400
Starting point is 00:42:00 emergency with cash, savings, or even a credit card charge that they could pay off quickly. So even Trump's Labor Department concedes that when inflation is taken into account, both bonuses and wages have dropped under Trump. So he says, oh, the economy's doing great. That means economy for all my donors is doing great. I just gave him $2 trillion in tax cuts. For the rest of you, jokes on you, your wages actually went down. And over the last 40 years, they haven't gone up at all.
Starting point is 00:42:30 While your, by the way, while your productivity has gone sky high, American people are more productive than they have ever been. But did you get any of that? No, went to the very top. Throw all the bums out, starting with the top orange bum of all, Donald Trump. When we come back from the break, we're going to switch gears a little bit and talk about some new chaos within the Trump administration. Dan Coates has effectively quit as the Director of National Intelligence in the Trump administration. He had apparently been considering quitting for quite some time now, and he disagreed quite a bit with Donald Trump. And his interpretation of what's happening on an international scale, his departure actually moves one of the most prominent national security officials willing to contradict Trump.
Starting point is 00:46:55 And that is problematic, to say the least. And now we are hearing that he will be replaced with a Trump loyalist, Representative John Ratcliffe, who essentially auditioned for the role just last week when Mueller was testifying before the House. Take a look. Which DOJ policy or principle sets forth a legal standard that an investigated person is exonerated if their innocence from criminal conduct is not conclusively determined. Can you repeat the last part of that question? Yeah. Which DOJ policy or principle set forth a legal standard that an investigated person is not exonerated if their innocence from criminal conduct is not conclusively determined?
Starting point is 00:47:40 Where does that language come from, director? Where is the DOJ policy that says that? Can you, let me make it easier. Can I agree? Go ahead. Can you give me an example other than Donald Trump where the Justice Department determined that an investigated person was not exonerated because their innocence was not conclusively determined? I cannot, but this is a unique situation. Okay, well, you can't, time is short. I've got five minutes. Let's just leave it at, you can't find it because I'll tell you why. It doesn't exist.
Starting point is 00:48:11 Yeah, it does exist. He's referring to the DOJ memo, which indicates that a sitting president cannot be indicted. But the whole thing was this aggressive ploy to make it abundantly clear that he thinks that the whole investigation was a hoax, that Russian meddling into our elections is nothing more than a hoax. He is, again, a Trump loyalist. And so Trump wants to place people in his cabinet who don't believe in, or at least pretend like they don't believe in what Russia had done and what, you know, the type of communication
Starting point is 00:48:43 the campaign had with Russians. So all right, let me first talk about how insane Ratcliffe is, and then I really want to go back to Dan Coates because there's a potential political time bomb in there for Donald Trump. So, and I think Dan Coates could be a really important, interesting person in the next year or so. So, but let me start with Radcliffe. For first of all, Radcliffe is trying to make Mueller sound weak. So he designs an incredibly confusing question that makes Mueller go, what, right? And he's like, uh-huh, see this, ineffectual frail, right? And then he says, is there anything where you would say that a person is not exonerated?
Starting point is 00:49:22 That makes it seem like the Justice Department did something outrageous. No, actually, since he can't indict a sitting president, he should, you could argue that Mueller should have never said that Trump was exonerated on collusion and conspiracy. He actually did Trump a giant favor by saying, hey, he didn't do the conspiracy with the Russians during the election. Now, he flips that on its head and saying, how dare you not also declare him innocent? Another thing, obstruction, because he isn't innocent on obstruction. And he has 10 cases of that in his report. But you know what Reckcliffe did? He went further. He suggested that there was Russian meddling in the election, but that it was to help Hillary
Starting point is 00:50:01 Clinton. Now, look, let's just think about in the rational world, in the real planet earth, okay? If the Russians helped Hillary Clinton get elected, why isn't she president? So what kind of a terrible conspiracy did they have that they're like, aha, you should have investigated how the Russians got Hillary elected? Why would you do that since she didn't get elected? And in their world, this is a giant witch hunt and a hoax that then says Donald Trump didn't do a conspiracy with the Russians during the election.
Starting point is 00:50:32 Why would you do a witch hunt and not actually get the guy? That makes no sense, yet every stupid-ass Republican in the country is like, I'll tell you, so to witch hunt, that's why they showed that he was innocent on the collusion. Do you hear yourself? You have any idea how stupid you sound? It's a conspiracy to what, show Donald Trump is innocent on conspiracy? It makes no sense, all right. Anyway, Radcliffe basically is saying to Trump, blank check, I'll do anything you want, and
Starting point is 00:51:04 And he has also talked about how not only that Hillary Clinton's campaign colluded with the Russians, but that Mueller didn't actually write the report. He's lunatic conspiracy theorists, right? And he's like, see since he's frail, he couldn't answer the most complicated question anyone's ever asked. That shows you that in fact it was, he said, quote, Hillary's de facto legal team that wrote the report. So now he's, Trump is filling the cabinet and, and the very important positions in
Starting point is 00:51:37 our government with lunatics just like him. People just as stupid as him, just as conspiracy theory driven as him, and they're not going to give him the actual intelligence. And that's not the bug, that's the feature. So that brings me back to Dan Coates. So New York Times points out that Coates gave quote, unwelcome assessments of Russia and North Korea to Donald Trump. The intelligence is supposed to be the intelligence.
Starting point is 00:52:04 It doesn't matter if it's welcome or unwelcome. You know what? When the intelligence community gave the assessment to George W. Bush that al-Qaeda was determined to attack inside the United States shortly before 9-11, well, that was an unwelcome assessment. But it would have been great if they listened to it because the planes aren't going to stop because you don't welcome them. So he says, well, Trump doesn't like that the Russians are meddling in our elections.
Starting point is 00:52:31 Or he doesn't like the fact that people know about it. He loves that they actually did it and helped him. Dan Coates says you should, this is the reality. Now Dan Coates, look, one more piece of context, guys. Dan Coats is so right wing that I remember when he came into the Senate, Michael Schur and other political analysts on this show we're talking about, my God, how insanely right wing has the Senate gotten that now Dan Coates is a senator. Now, we've got so far more to the right wing in Washington, that Dan, coach looks
Starting point is 00:53:01 like a reasonable person. So now coach comes down and says, he built 12, North Korea built 12 nuclear warheads while you were negotiating with them. Well, unwelcome assessment. It doesn't matter that it's not welcome. He built the nukes, whether you like it or you don't. The intelligence community is supposed to give you the facts. And Trump doesn't want facts.
Starting point is 00:53:24 They're inconvenient for him. So he hires a stupid ass lackey conspiracy theorist to manipulate the intelligence and just tell him whatever the hell he wants to hear. He has no expertise or experience with the intelligence community whatsoever. And so for all of the Republicans who were crying or yelling or whining about how the country's national security was in jeopardy during the Obama administration, because Democrats are allegedly weak on national security issues, what do you have to say about this? Because if he gets confirmed, Radcliffe would be the head of national intelligence, and
Starting point is 00:54:05 he is nothing more than a Trump loyalist with no experience in this area. I mean, doesn't that put national security at risk? Don't you need national intelligence that actually gives the executive branch the truth about what's going on internationally? Douglass Wise, a former CIA officer and deputy head of the defense intelligence agency, said that this is, quote, an existential threat to the agencies. Because if you have someone at the head of the agencies who doesn't believe in facts and believes that you should politicize facts, so for example, here's another fact from the intelligence
Starting point is 00:54:39 agencies, Iran does not have a nuclear weapons program. So Dan Coates, deeply right wing, you know, supported all of our wars, comes to Trump, goes like whether I want to or not, Iran doesn't have a nuclear weapons program, unwelcome assessment. So now this new guy, Radcliffe's going to come in, and what's he going to do? Even if his agents come in and go, Iran does not have a nuclear weapons program, he'll probably tear it up and go to Trump and go, what do you need to hear? Did they have a weapons program? Fine, they have one.
Starting point is 00:55:07 Where's the intelligence? Who cares? Who cares? That's what you put me in there to manipulate intelligence and to kill intelligence, so I did it. That's what Radcliffe's going to do. So he's the former CIA officer is exactly right. That is an existential threat to getting accurate, actionable intelligence from the intelligence community.
Starting point is 00:55:26 And final thing, why is Dan Coates a potential political time bomb? Dan Coates clearly does not agree with the president and is super frustrated with him. He found out when he was at an Aspen summit that Trump had invited Vladimir Putin to Washington and of course he had not told his defense intelligence agency head. That is the director of national intelligence, that is the top of the intelligence food chain. You don't tell them that you invited Putin to come to the White House? So he says, well, sounds like a special idea, right? And then Trump gets furious.
Starting point is 00:56:00 What do you mean? You shut up and you understand that I don't have to tell you anything. And I can just invite the Russians and you don't get to do your job, right? And he then lambasted coats. That's where it happened at the Asma Security Forum. And he ambassadored codes for going in front of the Senate and telling them the truth about North Korea, Russia, and Iran. And he said the intelligence chiefs are, quote, this is Trump, passive and naive, and
Starting point is 00:56:29 that perhaps intelligence should go back to school, said the dumbest guy who's ever been in the Oval Office. So my point is, Burr, who's the head of the intelligence committee in the Senate, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who's a Republican, does not like that Coates is leaving. Coates is very respected upon his former Republican colleagues in the Senate. So was Mueller. So I hear you. Look, there's plenty of scenarios where Coates never says anything.
Starting point is 00:56:59 He goes home and retires and seeths knowing that Trump is a danger to the country, but is a coward like the rest of the Republicans and doesn't do anything. That is a more likely scenario. But there is a scenario in which Coates can't take it and goes, guys, no, I'm not. I gotta tell you, here, I'll bring in Rex Tillerson, I'll bring in all the, I'll bring in Jim Mattis, all the people who are deeply right wing but sane that served in the Trump administration. And we're here to tell you guys together, the president's a goddamn lunatic.
Starting point is 00:57:27 He has no intelligence whatsoever, can't think straight, has no strategy, and you've got to do something for patriotism, for love of country, you've got to do something. Is it possible that Dan Coates does that? I grant you, given the Republican Party in its sorry state, it is unlikely. But given how frustrated Dan Coates is, and some Republican leaders in the Senate like Burr who don't let on normally, but have shown signs of great frustration with Trump, yes, if Trump is ever in big trouble, it'll be guys like Coates who provide the tipping point and guys like Burr who vote against them.
Starting point is 00:58:09 I'm saving up for a bathroom remodel, so do you want to take bets? No, I do not want to take bets. All right, fair enough. We got to take a break when we come back. We are going to, unfortunately, discuss another shooting that took place this time in California. And a new TYT investigates report that shows the DOJ takes Breitbart very seriously.
