Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to the Young Turks, the online news show. Make sure to follow and rate our show with not one, not two, not three, not four, but five stars. You're awesome. Thank you. Hey, guys, you've heard of the Young Turks podcast because you're listening to it right now. But make sure that you subscribe and give it a five star rating if you like it. Thank you for listening. All right, welcome to the Young Turks, Jake Uger, John Iderall, with you guys. Got a hell of a show for you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 We're apparently not going to have a shut down, we think. We're going to get to that in a second. Is Katie Pere a racist? We're going to get to that. Okay. My favorite two stories, I have confessed, and I do tell you this from time, time, are at the very end of the show, okay? Do we have an insect apocalypse?
Starting point is 00:00:49 We have got to get to that story. Because, you know, it sounds a little funny, but it's actually apocalyptic. Yeah. And so it's just about as disastrous as it could be. And then the Burning Man story, I am going to do a usual Jank Uyghur twist on it, and so buckle up for that. It's a hilarious, fascinating story, not that political, except for the fact that we're going to debate whether we should eat the rich.
Starting point is 00:01:23 So twisty twist coming up in the program, nothing but fun slash disaster. Okay, and we, by the way, we have a very special announcement coming up on Thursday, but tomorrow we might tell you what that announcement is. Anyway, Thursday is our 17th anniversary on the York Turks, which is unbelievable. This is Valentine's Day. Yes, we launched on Valentine's Day. No, we did not choose that. It happened to be the series satellite radio launched on that day.
Starting point is 00:01:59 That's why it's our anniversary. And we're gonna do a lot of fun things, which I'm gonna tell you about very soon, but not yet. But one of the things I can tell you is we're gonna do a rebroadcast of hostmates. So that's a special live streaming event. It is members only because that's a great competition that we had internally among the hosts. Like the newlywed game, greatly, it appears loved by almost everyone who watched it. So check that out, and of course, t.t.com slash join to become a member.
Starting point is 00:02:29 And then this just dropped, so I'll be wearing it on old school tomorrow. I love this shirt at shop ty.com. It's gotten me in the right mood for the show. Progressives versus everybody. I can put a Jamie Lanister quote next to it. Anyone who isn't us. I can get dark. Your Game of Thrones fans will understand what I meant by that.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Okay. Anyway, shopti.com for that. Okay, let's get started. We've got a lot of show. Okay, let's do that. I look forward to also talking about your favorite stories later on. But for those of you in the audience, we've got to go through a lot of lame stuff before we get to the good ones, including my entire hour.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Okay, with that. No, no, there's a really kidding. The battle between, so look, the two things that have been animated in the first hour, most. are a battle between Trump and AOC on Green New Deal, of course, and the battle between Trump and Ilhan Omar on APEC. Can't wait. So we'll get to that in a minute. Considering those ones, Iyana Presley and Rashida-Talib, watch out, he's coming for you.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Yeah, well, no, no, they're coming for him. Oh, okay, okay, well, let's jump into the news. We might not actually have our second government shutdown of the year, according to bipartisan negotiators in Congress who say that they've got a possible deal, but we're gonna break down both the details of the deal and what different groups think about it. So here's a little bit of what's in it. A Democratic congressional aid told the Daily News that the committee had agreed to do 1.375 billion for the construction of 55 miles of ballard fencing.
Starting point is 00:04:02 No wall, said the aid, while reducing the number of detention beds at the disposal of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency by 17.4%, cutting about 8,500 beds out there. So, we've got a little bit more details. Those are the initial details. There will be some ballard fencing, not a wall, fencing. So basically it's like, imagine open space and you're walking across it. And then you come to material that stops you from crossing it, but not a wall. Yes, they went with ballard fencing at the last second.
Starting point is 00:04:39 They were considering dotted fencing instead, but a little bit too much of a Kim Jong-un reference, so they went with Bollard. I literally don't know what Bollard fencing is. Bollard fencing is the like steel slats that are put relatively close to each other. You can see through portions of it, but it is metal for enough that you can't walk through it. Okay, so they will not be able to squeeze through with their cantaloupe cabs. No, no, it's-Ballard fencing is just a fancy wall. That's all it is, fancy wall.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Yeah, now we're kidding around. That's a cantalope calves that reference to Steve King and his racist diatribes against Latin American immigrants. But look, it looks like a good deal to me, and I don't often say that. Usually these so-called bipartisan deals are disastrous, and I'm usually on the side of saying, no, strike a better deal, or I, you know, from time to time, it is okay to shut the government down. But in this case, it appears that the Democrats had leverage and actually used it, which
Starting point is 00:05:39 is borderline shocking, and that Trump is coming out. and the Republicans are coming out in a much worse shape. So you're never going to get everything you want out of a deal. From what I can tell now, not all the details are in, but it looks like, well, I would take it. So he wanted $1.6 billion, or the original deal that Trump rejected had $1.6 billion for some sort of border security, physical barrier of border security. This has less.
Starting point is 00:06:13 So he negotiated himself into a worse position than the already bad position that was so bad he rejected it. Art of the deal. There you go. Told you, can't negotiate his way out of a paper bag and doesn't know anything about deal making and of course bungle this because he's a serial bungler. I feel a little bit different, but first let's go to the president. He's going to respond to a very close analysis of this.
Starting point is 00:06:41 this plan, which I'm sure he conducted, and here he is giving his first impression. When you sign Congress's border deal? I have to study it. I'm not happy about it. It's not doing the trick, but I'm adding things to it. And when you add whatever I have to add, it's all gonna happen where we're gonna build a beautiful, big, strong wall that's not gonna let criminals and traffickers and drug dealers and drugs into our country.
Starting point is 00:07:09 So I can tell you that am I happy at first glance, I just got to see it? The answer is no, I'm not, I'm not happy. Was that before after Sean Hannity told him not to be happy about it, calling it a garbage compromise? This would be after. Yeah, what I noticed, I guess I notice this every day, but when he's going through, I'm not happy about it, I have to study it, so he doesn't know the details, but he's not happy with what he sees.
Starting point is 00:07:38 But once I add things, where there's gonna be a wall, like that whole weird, meandering statement, there's a lot that's been normalized since he's become president, but I still have not gotten used to an idiot like that speaking with the authority of the office of the presidency. So we do have that. Now, he doesn't support the plan, but might well end up signing it in the end. The thing, from my point of view, and maybe I'm being, maybe my expectations are too high, I don't know why they agreed to a deal that has any wall in it. I know that they're saying it's not a wall, Sean Hannity's saying it's not a wall, but it feels to me like he kept switching back and forth between I want a wall, I want steel
Starting point is 00:08:17 bollard fencing, I want a barrier, I want concrete, I want a wall, I want fencing. Yeah. I feel like he is going to use this to declare that he is one and that Democrats have signed on to the idea that you do need physical barriers at the border. Now this is bizarre world, where I will now defend. Democratic leadership and their compromises. Okay. Maybe I'm crazy.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Yeah. No, no, you're not crazy. It's a legitimate point of view and some progressives in Congress might have that point of view and some people are concerned about that. But look, they do have to compromise at some point and get to a deal because the government has to function. And the question is how good or bad is that deal, not whether it exists or doesn't exist. So if the Democrats stuck to, no funding for any physical barrier at the border at all,
Starting point is 00:09:06 well, we obviously would never have a deal. So then how do you ever resolve that? Would we not have a deal? Yeah, I think so. I mean, how much do the Republicans want to launch back into a shutdown just a few weeks after a shutdown that was absolutely devastating for them? I know, but at that point, and that was part of the point of this three-week hiatus to kind of renegotiate, the Republicans would be able to say, hey, we did a reset.
Starting point is 00:09:28 It's no longer Trump's shutdown. The Democrats are now saying they're gonna give zero when they had offered $1.6 billion before, this is totally unreasonable and they would then launch that PR campaign. If I was on the Democratic side, I would think that this is a plenty good enough win where we actually got Trump to reduce what he was asking for from the original shutdown, which is a massive loss for Trump. I mean, that makes them look like an idiot. So here's a situation where I, I mean, this is totally.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Bizarro world where I agree with Sean Hannity. If you're a Republican and Donald Trump and you really wanted the wall, this is a garbage compromise for them. They got killed and that's because Trump doesn't know how to negotiate, he's a total idiot. So look, you gotta take it at some point. I think there's a good point to take it, and it's all symbolism anyway. The real wall takes $20 to $70 billion. What difference does it make if it's zero or 1.3 or 1.6?
Starting point is 00:10:28 It ain't getting built. And what difference does it make if it's a dollared wall or a dottered wall or a beaded curtain as Nancy Pelosi was called it? It's all symbolism. And if we're talking about symbolism and you're not actually building a nonsensical $70 billion wall, I'm okay with it. As long as you got something back and they did get plenty of things back. And look, the compromise on the beds that enhance attention facilities that ICE has, I don't
Starting point is 00:10:58 love that either, but that's the whole point of a compromise. And look, why was I against so many compromises that the Democrats did for the last 20 years? Because they weren't real compromises. They just give the Republicans 98% of what they wanted. So I hated that, and I fought against a tooth and nail every single day. But if you have an actual compromise where both sides win a little bit, and actually honestly our side wins more, that's a compromise I could live with. Yeah, I guess one prediction I guess I will make, assuming that this goes forward, it gets voted
Starting point is 00:11:27 for passes or whatever, I feel like the Republicans will say that every Democrat that votes for this has voted to build walls. And they will use that the next time around and say, well, how are you guys gonna say that we shouldn't spend $10 billion when you guys did approve a billion dollars for a wall? No, no, but I'm gonna use the Bannequist rule on that one. Yes, they will say that and then we get to say whatever we want to say, right? We get to counter them. And so, the reality also, and John, you know, this is that the Schumer and the Democrats
Starting point is 00:11:59 offered, what was it, $25 billion initially, yeah. Initially last year, right? And Trump turned that down, because again, total idiot, doesn't know how to negotiate. So you could use that argument if you're a Republican anyway. Yeah, that's true. Okay, I do want to play one more little bit of video of Trump though, because I think that it could be interpreted either to support what you were saying or my narrative more. So he's gonna be talking about if there is another shutdown, whose responsibility is it?
Starting point is 00:12:27 And take a look at the way that he frames that. I don't think you're going to see a shutdown. I wouldn't wanna go to it now. If you did have it, it's a Democrat's fault. And I accepted the first one and I'm proud of what we've accomplished because people learned during that shutdown all about the problems coming in from the southern border. I accept, I've always accepted it. But this one, I would never accept if it happens.
Starting point is 00:12:52 But I don't think it's going to happen. But this would be totally other Democrats, okay? Okay. So see? I think it's exactly what I just said. Well, yes, that they would try to pin it on the Democrats, but it also is an indication that he really doesn't want it on him because he just went through this experience of it being on him, his approval rating dragging, and whether, like, I guess I'll flip what
Starting point is 00:13:16 you just said to me, okay, the Republicans will try to claim that it's the Democrats' fault. But okay, they were kind of trying to do that in the second half of the last shutdown. But the problem is they would have a point here, because we got Trump to reduce the funding for border, the physical barrier at the border. But they were saying, before the shutdown was even done, Chuck and Nancy were saying not $1 for a wall. That's what they won the shutdown battle on, was no wall funding. Yeah. Look, I love it, brother. I mean, I hope there are more and more progressives on the left of me say, no, let's fight even harder.
Starting point is 00:13:49 That would be awesome. I'm just telling you that the old adage that you saw if you watched Moneyball, the movie at the end of the movie, you got to know when you hit a home run. It's okay, we hit a home run. Let's take our winnings off the table. And finally, I'll end on Donald Trump and whether he'll even accept it. Now, the Republican legislators say that they have been in constant communication with the White House and that the White House signed off on everything that they need.
Starting point is 00:14:19 negotiated. When they asked Richard Shelby, who's a lead negotiator on the Senate side for the Republicans, so will Trump accept this? He said he couldn't predict what Trump will quote, do, say, or right. In other words, look, we asked the idiot 7,000 times and he said yes. But that doesn't mean it's a yes, God knows what he'll tweet tomorrow, because he's unpredictable at a child. And by the way, for Richard Shelby, I don't know if he might be implying this in the tweet,
Starting point is 00:14:47 But if he's not, he should be thinking about it. There's every reason to believe that he will accept the deal because he did sign off on everything, but he is going to viciously attack the Republicans who negotiated it. So they're gonna work hardcore to save his ass, and they're gonna get thrown under the bus. To which I say, of course. Of course they are, that's what he does. Oh, those idiots. Okay, why don't we take the first break and come back with Donald Trump's El Paso rally
Starting point is 00:15:14 from yesterday? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a giant rally. It's a big rally. It's a strong rally, okay? Much stronger than Beddows. Oops. We'll get to that.
Starting point is 00:15:27 We need to talk about a relatively new show called Un-F-E-E-N-F-TR. As a young Turks fan, you already know that the government, the media, and corporations are constantly peddling lies that serve the interests of the rich and powerful. But now there's a podcast dedicated to unraveling those lies. debunking the conventional wisdom. In each episode of Un-B-The-Republic, or UNFTR, the host delves into a different historical episode or topic that's generally misunderstood or purposely obfuscated
Starting point is 00:15:58 by the so-called powers that be. Featuring in-depth research, razor-sharp commentary, and just the right amount of vulgarity, the UNFTR podcast takes a sledgehammer to what you thought you knew about some of the nation's most sacred historical cows. But don't just take my word for it. The New York Times described UNFTR as consistently compelling and educational,
Starting point is 00:16:22 aiming to challenge conventional wisdom and upend the historical narratives that were taught in school. For as the great philosopher Yoda once put it, You must unlearn what you have learned. And that's true whether you're in Jedi training or you're uprooting and exposing all the propaganda and disinformation you've been fed over the course of your lifetime. So search for UNFDR in your podcast app today, and get ready to get informed, angered, and entertained all at the same time. Come back. All right, back on a young Turks.
Starting point is 00:17:05 You guys, I'm just reading a couple of the comments here, but it seems like there's some sentiment towards. John's direction, okay? P. McEnroe on Twitter says, Jenk, we don't need fencing on the border either. I think Democrats should trade not prosecuting Donald Trump for his resignation instead. Well, that's a trade I would take, and I think I hopefully will get at some point, but that is probably unrelated to this. They should have brought it up, though.
Starting point is 00:17:37 You never know what you're going to get in negotiation. Yeah, well, with Trump, you might be right. He's like, okay, fine, I resign. What? Anyway, Mars in 1991 says this deal is virtually the same deal they made in December. The only change is the ballard fencing. And you could take that in two different ways. I mean, that was the deal that Democrats had already agreed to and had one on.
Starting point is 00:17:57 Here they reduced the amount of money for wall slash funding a little bit. And it looks like they have negotiated to actually reduce the ICE detention centers by some amount. So full details will come out later. So there is a couple of things that Democrats got out of it, which also answers Victor's question in the members' comments section. All right, I want to tell you guys about a couple of quick things. First of all, Anna is in Munich right now.
Starting point is 00:18:22 So if you're in Munich, I need you to panic and get over to the Munich Security Conference where your panic will be detected. And stopped from entering. That's right. Hashtag your MSC as a Munich Security Conference to find out more information. She'll be doing a lot of interviews. To and including maybe, I'm not sure about this, Angela Merkel. So that's what I heard, but I'm not positive about it.
Starting point is 00:18:47 But check out that Twitter handle. She's doing panels and interviews throughout the week in Germany. So that's pretty fun. I also want to tell you about Wolfpack. I am going to the state of Washington on the 22nd of this month, February 22nd. We're going to Olympia, Washington for the capital to try to make Washington the sixth state. I think it is very possible. In fact, this Friday, they're having a committee hearing in the House.
Starting point is 00:19:14 And so you guys can participate. Main thing to take away here is if you're in the state of Washington, go to Washington at wolf dash pack.com and they'll tell you where to show up, when to show up, and how you can make a giant difference. Going to the Capitol is wonderful, and I want you guys there with them on the 15th and with me on the 22nd, but you don't necessarily have to go to the Capitol. You could make calls, you could make emails from as simple as possible to as much involvement as you want.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Remember when you're there, if we win, it's a wonderful, wonderful feeling because you made that possible. So I'll be going to the second committee hearing that's in the Senate side on February 22nd. Nice. So come join me and let's bring our TYT Army, Wolfpack Mountain Army, all there. So Washington at wolf dash pack.com. And then finally, I wanted to thank our sponsor Squarespace here. They help you bring your stories to life, obviously help you set up websites, blogs and portfolios.
Starting point is 00:20:14 For those you've been watching the directors for a while, you know that it's, I even built a website using Squarespace and if I can do it, anybody can. So for 10% off, head over to Squarespace.com slash TYT or use a promo code TYT and you'll get 10% off. All right, John, what's next? Super fast, I just wanna throw myself into the bus. Can we bring up the Munich image for just one second of Anna off at the security conference? So this is sort of just a sad realization, but that picture of her is a better picture of her
Starting point is 00:20:43 than there ever has been or ever will be of me. It's really sad when you realize your limitations. Look how photogenic she is. It's really annoying, honestly. Yeah, I hear you on that. I do have one last thing to say about that. Go check out John's Instagram and Twitter and anywhere where you can see his pictures, because Because John looks totally different in pictures than he does in real life or on video.
Starting point is 00:21:05 You know what you look like in pictures? I think I might have told you this once in a post came. You look so much more Italian in pictures. You do, no, I think it's funny. Okay, see, look at Luigi over there. I want to give you an idea. I'm moving too much. Okay, I'm telling you, go to his Instagram account, which I would normally never plug.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Luigi. Okay. Why in Luigi? Why not Mario? Okay, every picture you're going to be like, man, that dude looks Italian, okay? Okay, here's the issue. The latest picture I have up on my Instagram is me in an Italian restaurant. I told you.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Stop. Do you know how fast you were going? I'm going to have to write you a ticket to my new movie, The Naked Gun. Liam Neeson. Buy your tickets now. I get a free Chili Dog. Chilly Dog, not included. The Naked Gun.
Starting point is 00:21:55 Tickets on sale now. August 1st. No! By the way, it doesn't think it'd rocket scientist to figure that. He's sad. His last name is Idleola. Can I say this should totally be for the post. No, I'm gonna save it for the post game.
Starting point is 00:22:06 So I wanna reveal the table I sat at, which U.S. politicians sat at that table the night before me. Wow. It's not how you'd expect, and we have an interesting story about them and their family. Well, you know that old story about Bernie Sanders and me at an Italian restaurant. I'll tell you. You guys don't know that story. I'll tell that story in the post game too.
Starting point is 00:22:24 Free week if you want a member, tryout membership t.com slash trial. So then you'll get all the post games, the old school Ben and I are going to do tomorrow night. Just check out everything, including hostmates. All right, what's next? You get to find out how Bernie Sanders orders food. It's pretty funny. Okay, let's jump back in the news. At Donald Trump's El Paso speech last night, one of his devoted fans decided to, in an unprovoked
Starting point is 00:22:47 fashion, just attack a BBC reporter, and it was captured live on tape right here. Americans, Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans have reached the lowest level in the history of our country. Okay, so that video was from the point of view of the reporter as he was being attacked, and you see them then chanting in support of both the guy and Trump. His co-worker who posted the video on Twitter said, Just attended my first real Donald Trump rally where my colleague BBC cameraman Ron Skeens was attacked by a Trump supporter. The crowd had been whipped up into a frenzy against the media by Trump and other speakers all night. That probably will not come as much of a surprise to you.
Starting point is 00:23:48 The BBC cameraman said the, quote, very hard shove came from the blind side, and the red hat shoved him twice before a blogger wrestled him away. I didn't know what was going on, he says. He was just doing his job filming the event when he was assaulted from behind. And his colleague, Washington correspondent Gary O'Donohue, called it, quote, an incredibly violent attack. This is a constant feature of these rallies, a goading of the crowds against the media. He says he's been spat at before as well. Yes, so it's almost as if you egg people on by telling the people that the media is the enemy of the people that they might actually act upon it.
Starting point is 00:24:25 I mean, what do you do to your enemy? You sit there and just let them do whatever he wants? No, the whole point of the imagery of the enemy is that you attack your enemy. You literally almost can't do anything else with your enemy. I guess you can surrender to your enemy, but nine out of ten times you're going to attack your enemy. And so saying that criticism of the media, especially the mainstream media, is out of bounds as unacceptable and nonsense. Of course you can criticize them. You can criticize them from the right, and they have been for decades. We criticize them from the left.
Starting point is 00:25:00 By calling them the enemy of the people incites violence. It's obvious. The intent of it is to incite violence. There is almost no other intent, because there's a thousand other ways to criticize the media by using the language, especially if you're the president of the United States, the enemy of the people, will whoever you apply that to, you're telling your followers, you must attack those people. And so it's incredibly dangerous. I'm surprised it hasn't happened more. Although we find out after this that several other reporters said that he, this particular
Starting point is 00:25:36 gentleman had been pushing them as well. And other BBC reporters said that at a different rally he'd been spat on. And we've had people of course aggressively coming up to Jim Acosta at some of these rallies. And so he's a dangerous guy who doesn't believe in our system of government, doesn't believe in freedom of the press, doesn't believe in the Constitution, and this is the natural consequence of it. Yeah, yeah, we could go back through, there's, we just have to, there's these zombie things that just come up every once in a while and you address them and they come back up.
Starting point is 00:26:07 So, we could go through all these examples of him inciting violence, specifically saying to punch people, and we could go back for the election where one of his big fans was sending pipe bombs to his list of political enemies, and we can go through all that. If you do not accept that he is trying to get people to attack the media at this point, you're simply not going to, you're probably a Trump supporter yourself. It's happening, it's happening all the time. Hell, go to the tweet that we showed you at the beginning, and look at the responses from Trump supporters to that, and you've got an idea of what they've been trained to believe about
Starting point is 00:26:35 the media. Now, as this was going on though, you do also have Donald Trump in the room, and here is how he responded as the incident was happening. Okay, thank you. Thank you. You all right? Everything okay? Please?
Starting point is 00:27:31 Okay, thank you. Thank you. And women have... Okay, and he goes right back into his talking points. All right, so a couple of things there. One is Trump's reaction, you guys okay, all right? Well, I'm glad he asked, okay, but it's a very low bar. How about you tell the crown, don't do that?
Starting point is 00:27:53 So I have said things against the media, and if I'm in a rally, which I have been, and I say something against the media, somebody attacks the media, I would go, no, don't do that. That's not the point. We do it in a constructive way, we do it through ideas, we do it through politics, I wouldn't go, you okay, you're right, all right, good, all right. And I think maybe even more importantly, did you hear the crowd? They were chanting, let him go, let him go.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Like, so what, he assaulted someone, just let him go. If you're a political opponent, they chant lock him up or lock her up, right? If you're someone who committed a violent assault on a reporter, ah, let him go, let him go, what's the big deal? Guys, this is what the media still won't do, even though they're now the targets of the attack. You're not getting it. They like violence, and it's not just Trump. It's the Trump voters, it's the Trump supporters.
Starting point is 00:28:49 They believe in an authoritarian former government. They don't believe in freedom of speech or freedom of the press, and they believe in violence. And so you can say, well, hey, look, that's just one guy out of the whole crowd. But the crowd chanted, let him go, let him go. That was not enough for the crowd. They were not happy that it ended there. And think about the two reactions they had, it's bad enough. that you see Donald Trump, and he's just like, he's doing his weird point. He's even doing
Starting point is 00:29:16 his thing like this, which is literally the exact same motion he makes in all of his rallies when he's attacking the media. Not in some sense, like, hey, the Washington Post, New York Times, he's saying those people in the media. He did the same thing when talking to the guy asking if he was okay there. So they start with let him go. Then they transition to Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump. So they got fired up by one of their own attacking a member of the media and they were reinvigorated for more Trump at that point. You're not supposed to call these people names, you're supposed to be super understanding of them.
Starting point is 00:29:49 That was absolutely disgusting. And he did nothing to stop it from happening again. He could have easily said, you know what, I'm gonna get back to my points I wanted to make in just a second, but here's the thing, if you attack ever a political opponent member of the media, you are not a follower of mine. We don't have any interest in you being a part of the MAGA movement. We are for political change, we're not for violence. He chose not to do that.
Starting point is 00:30:13 He chose to transition back into whatever BS he was spreading about women after that. And that's because he's at different rallies over and over, especially during the campaign, would say attack them, not to the media about hecklers or protesters. He would say, carry him out on a stretcher, those those were the good old days, punch him in the face. Punch him in the face, I'll pay your legal bills. He directly incited violence, because that's who he is. He's a fascist at heart. So even at this late juncture, the media does not understand the danger that he poses
Starting point is 00:30:44 the country. If he could, he would end our system of government without blinking an eye. And look, one more thing about that. I wrote an article about this, I would say coincidentally, but it's not really coincidence. It's because this kind of violence keeps happening over and over again about stochastic Terran, and we've got it up on our website, t.com, but we'll put the link down below if you're watching this later on YouTube or Facebook. And it's about this phenomenon where if you say, hey, go kill Joe Blow, that is illegal. Okay, that is a specific call to violence and illegal.
Starting point is 00:31:21 That's not covered under freedom of speech. Okay. But if you say, hey, generally speaking, these are your enemies, and is somebody going to do something about it, that is legal? So, but what it does is it unleashes what's called stochastic terror, which is randomized terror, which they could then disavow and say, well, I didn't personally do it, so I'm not legally responsible. I just asked my followers to go commit that violence. And so Trump and a lot of right wingers have over and over asked their followers to commit violence.
Starting point is 00:31:55 And so when random acts of violence pop up to terrorize their opponents, including the media, They go, I didn't do it, ha ha, technically you can't get me. But it is terrorism nonetheless. I mean, last we heard Christine Blasey Ford was still switching houses because she had the audacity to talk about what actually did happen to her during the Kavanaugh hearings and the right wing has terrorized her ever since. The Sandy Hook parents, some of them continue to change houses because Alex Jones and those nut jobs say that they were crisis actors and it's all a lie and they get threats of violence
Starting point is 00:32:29 over and over again. So that terrorism is happening right now in this country. It happens all the time, and we've just quietly accepted it, and that's how fascism creeps up on you, when you slowly accept that one side will do violence and the other side will not counter it. And then eventually people get intimidated and stop speaking out against them. Okay, why don't we turn to another topic raised at that particular rally? Trump weighed in on the Green New Deal that was released just last week by Representative
Starting point is 00:32:59 Cassio-Cortez and dozens of other politicians both in the House and in the Senate. And I think you'll be able to quickly tell that he definitely read the entire thing. They introduced the so-called Green New Deal. It sounds like a high school term paper that got a low mark. It would shut down American energy, which I don't think the people in Texas are going to be happy with that. It would shut down a little thing called air travel. How do you take a train to Europe?
Starting point is 00:33:46 You know, they want to take away your car, reduce the value of your home, and put millions of Americans out of work, spend a hundred trillion dollars, which by the way, there's no such thing is a hundred trillion. You have to spend a hundred trillion dollars. Okay, so that's the latest from him, but he's been talking about this for a couple of days now. Nothing that he says has any relationship with the actual content of the Green New Deal, but he's tweeted, I think it's very important for the Democrats to press forward with the Green New Deal. It would be great for the so-called carbon footprint. He doesn't think that that actually means anything. He thinks it's like a fake made-up term. To permanently eliminate
Starting point is 00:34:26 All planes, cars, cows, oil, gas, and the military, even if no other country do the same. Brilliant, if you're confused by that, it's because nothing in the proposal for the Green New Deal calls for any of that. AOC has never proposed any of that. Yeah, there's more. He talks about people needing to take a train to California. He has no idea what is actually going on, but he knows that this is going to wreck the U.S. economy in pursuit of stopping in Chinese hoax.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Remember, he loves conspiracy theory, so he might think carbon is a code word for a Bigfoot, And that that's what's leaving the footprint. And, you know. Carbon, very blurry when you take photos of it. He said there, it sounds like a high school term paper that got a low mark. Now, he would know a thing or two about that. I'm gonna call again for Donald Trump to release his transcripts. I believe he was a failing student at Fordham and at Penn.
Starting point is 00:35:15 I would be shocked if he got a grade above a C on any class. Remember, even according to his own allies like Lindsey Graham, he's a one-page kind of guy. I don't know if you know this, in college, you have to read past a page. And I think his IQ is so low that it would literally be shocking if he ever got a grade above a sea in any context. And so he, and he called for Obama to release his transcripts from Columbia and Harvard, because he couldn't believe that a black man could be successful in those colleges. I can't believe an orange man would be this successful, a person this monumentally stupid.
Starting point is 00:35:49 So I'm calling for those transcripts to be released, I'm sure any day now. And by the way, if the Democrats are now in charge of oversight, get his transcripts while you're at it. I know the tax returns, et cetera. But so you might say, oh, come on, Jank, that's a little petty. First of all, Trump did it to Obama and he did it for racist reasons. Second of all, no, it goes to show the privilege, the unearned privilege that he had. There's no way he had good enough grades afforded him to transfer to Penn.
Starting point is 00:36:22 He transferred there because of daddy who also got him out of Vietnam based on a nonsense letter from Trump, from a doctor that we now know was not true, okay? So he's never earned a thing in his life. So please don't come at me with a paper with low marks on the Green New Deal, hilarious, from the dumbest man who's ever served in office in American history. Okay, now let's go on to the substance of the Green. New Deal. Kind of.
Starting point is 00:36:49 He says it will eliminate a little thing called air travel. It might be that he's jealous because he couldn't do it himself. All he could do was shut down Trump shuttle. Remember he had an airline? As usual, abject failure. Total loser. Couldn't run that business like he couldn't run any business. And he had to shut down that piece of air travel.
Starting point is 00:37:12 So I guess he thinks probably is a good thing and he's jealous that they're going to do more. Now, in reality, of course, are they shutting down air travel? No. And this goes beyond Trump. This is a lie that the entire Republican Party is telling, which unfortunately a lot of the media is calling even. Yep. I can't tell.
Starting point is 00:37:30 No, they said in an ideal world, our railway system would be so great we wouldn't need air travel. They didn't say we're gonna shut down air travel and we're not gonna allow people to take planes. They never said that, they never came within a mile of saying that. That is every Republican in the country lying. But the media can't say that, oh, well, I mean, that wouldn't be neutral. That wouldn't be neutral. I mean, I could criticize Trump. But the rest of the Republican Party, I have to bow down and kiss their ass, even though
Starting point is 00:37:58 they're proven liars. Aren't they banning cows, though? Of course they're not banning cows. And almost every Republican in the country is repeating that mythology. Yeah, the best example is. So first of all, yes, you're 100% right on this morning on the damage before I critiqued Politico tweet, that was just a list of all of the Republican talking points about the Green New Deal. That's all it was. But there was a, I think it was Politifact, did a fact check
Starting point is 00:38:22 about one of the claims about what was in the Green New Deal, but at the same time, AOC's claim that there were false versions of the Green New Deal floating around. And in this fact check, they repeatedly said AOC is wrong that there are fake versions of the Green New Deal floating around that the Republicans are using to speak out against it. Then they acknowledge, in the middle of the article, that yes, multiple right wingers have a version, a fake version where it says something about reusing urine or something like that, a fake version. They say that, and then they go back to she is wrong and lying about there being fake versions of the Green New Deal floating around.
Starting point is 00:38:59 It's like this long on the screen, that's all it is. And they go back and forth with no, like they're just double think. It's just natural at this point. If you are neutral to the truth and lies, that means you are not. not objective. You are not objective. What you're doing is political correctness to try to make Republicans sound smarter and more honest than they actually are. In reality, they're idiots who think you could ban cows and then spread that mythology, and they lie about it on purpose over and over again. And you aid and abet their lies when you call it even between their clear fabrications
Starting point is 00:39:43 and a legitimate policy proposal on the side of the Democrats, Cascio-Cortez, Ed Markey, et cetera. So please stop lying on behalf of Republicans. It's not too much to ask for. And I just want to briefly give you AOC's response to these lies put out by Donald Trump. She said, ah, yes, a man who can't even read briefings written in full sentences is providing literary criticism of a House resolution. Quote, reading the intelligence book is not Trump's preferred style of learning,
Starting point is 00:40:11 according to a person with knowledge of the situation, as reported by the Washington Post. And by the way, I noted this this morning as well. I don't think that it's by chance that he didn't just say it's poorly written. He said it's like a term paper you would do in high school, because they really think that just insulting her age is going to get them out of this. If you just call her young, then people won't pay any attention to her ideas. Well, actually, for right-wingers, that is unfortunately true. And you add a woman.
Starting point is 00:40:38 So a young woman, they're like, a young woman, what would she know? Look, the guy you support might or might not have three IQ points. And you have the audacity to talk about other people's intelligence based on artificial traits like age and gender. But that is the Republican Party. They classify people based on who they are, not the merits of their ideas. Which party that believes in the merit of ideas would have picked Donald Trump? So, ladies and gentlemen, I arrest my case.
Starting point is 00:41:12 Why don't we take our second break? Yes. Now a lot more to come up here because Trump versus Ilhan Omar is another giant one. I was not on the show yesterday, so I did not get the vent about the total nonsense attack against Ilhan Omar. It drives me crazy. And then we've got the stories in the second hour that are about the insect apocalypse and that's actually real, and I'm sure the trouble, but go, yeah, what do you mean?
Starting point is 00:41:43 I still see some insects. Yeah. And what would be wrong with getting rid of spiders? I don't like spiders. Anyway, we'll talk about that when we come back. At TYT, we frequently talk about all the ways that big tech companies are taking control of our online lives, constantly monitoring us and storing and selling our data. I could swear at you in Italian, but I'm not going to.
Starting point is 00:43:17 John, it's just telling you, it's okay. You are Italian. There's nothing wrong with that. Okay, member comments first. Jordan Rock says, seriously, the media should stop going to his rallies. Let him scream and don't show a thing. Someone's going to get killed again with this tool. abouting all this hate, I hear you, but totally not doable.
Starting point is 00:43:39 You can't not cover the President of the United States. Yeah, I just can't. Do not broadcast the entirety of his speeches on cable news, I would say. Okay, yeah, that makes sense. Pull out clips that are important and need to be discussed. Yeah, and that's it. Jay Rich, also member section, I'm still so saddened by how many supporters Trump has. Guess worse, Jay Rich, actually his latest poll numbers have been climbing significantly.
Starting point is 00:44:04 I have to confess to being a bit shocked by that, but it is amazing how they've stuck with him. And now apparently he's adding followers. That is unbelievable. Unbelievable. I think that's partially. I mean, over the course of December through January, he lost significant support. Some of those people are probably creeping back.
Starting point is 00:44:24 Creeping's right. Okay. Theater goddess writes in, besides being violent, an attack from behind us on someone who's focused on doing their job is incredibly cowardly. Oh, yeah. Yeah, this is the movement of alpha males, guys. You should know that. Romantic Warrior 1 on YouTube super chat says,
Starting point is 00:44:40 two words, congressional veto override, done. To be fair, that's three words. But still, I hear you on that. And override is really two words crammed together. Okay, but technically won. All right, Marsden, 1991 on Twitter, last one says, his own professor said he was, quote, the dumbest student they ever had.
Starting point is 00:44:59 So you definitely know nothing above us. But as usual, Daddy gave donations award and so he graduated. But I'm sure the donations had nothing to do with it. I'm sure it was his quote, very big brain. We're gonna have to get you to do a video of the five or ten stupidest people to ever serve in public office. And I want you to tweet it out because I think Rick Perry might retweet it with a number two. By the way, W, I mean, if you watch the movie Vice, he's definitely a top of Fiverr.
Starting point is 00:45:34 Okay. W is like don't, you're underestimating how stupid W is. Okay. Anyway. You put food on your children. We've got some announcements about that tomorrow too to talk about what's happening on February 14th. Don't miss the February 14th show or our announcements tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:45:54 Okay, so one last thing guys, today's show is brought to you by aspiration. They're a wonderful progressive financial institution and we are partnering. with them to, honestly, begin to build a better world. I know that's ambitious, but it's true. We're basically trying to make sure that you keep dollars in your pocket. They don't charge fees, they're very progressive. You can set any fees that you like on there. Your money in there is clean, does not go to oil companies, gun companies, et cetera, which
Starting point is 00:46:22 your bank does actually put your money in those other companies. So you should read up on that and get empowered by it. But aspiration.com slash TYT to sign up, and they do all of your basically banking functions for you, it's online, it saves you a lot of money, and it gives you peace of mind. That's why they're our sponsors. Okay, John, what's next? Okay, more news. In last year's midterm elections, the voters of Utah passed a proposition that would finally
Starting point is 00:46:54 expand Medicaid inside of their state because their Republican state legislature refused to do so. And so they voted for it, and they sent a message. was loud and clear and almost completely ignored by that Republican state government because they decided rather than putting into law what the voters had just voted in favor of, they're going to adopt a more limited expansion of Medicaid with some significant restrictions and complete inefficiencies. So under the new GOP written plan, Utah will ask the Trump administration for permission
Starting point is 00:47:24 to implement unprecedented restrictions on the health coverage program for the poor, while ensuring about 60,000 fewer people than the Obamacare expansion would have, and initially costing the state tens of millions of dollars more. So that might be a little bit confusing, but understand that both parts are true. This is going to have harsher restrictions, cover less people, and cost much more for the state to actually do than just expanding Medicaid as it is supposed to be expanded under Obamacare. The current Utah plan will cover about 90,000 people, and that extra expense, that's 49,000
Starting point is 00:47:58 million dollars over the first two years. Now take all of that together, here is how the Republican governor described it. This is Gary Herbert who said the legislation balances Utah's sense of compassion and frugality, which is true, but he didn't say where it balanced it. I think that's sort of an important detail. Yeah, so there's two huge problems with this. One is the substance of it, and he says it's more frugal. No, it's not, it costs $49 million more.
Starting point is 00:48:26 So they actually cost the state of Utah more money to cover less people. It's almost impressive, because it's kind of hard to do. How do you cover less people but cost your state more money? Well, if you're an idiot Republican, that's what you do. You're like, oh, but we showed both Obamacare and the Democrats and also our own voters. I got your voters. I made it more expensive and covered less people. What now?
Starting point is 00:48:54 What now is you should never vote for Republicans. So the second part, though, is more important. It's a ballot measure. It passed. They didn't stutter. It's called democracy. So Republicans do this over and over again. Paul LePage in Maine.
Starting point is 00:49:10 Oh, there was a ballot measure he didn't like on the same issue. So I'm not gonna expand Medicaid. But then why are we having ballot measures in South Dakota? They said you can't take gifts anymore from lobbyists. And they did this comprehensive ballot measure to clean up campaign financing. and the corruption that was happening at the state level in South Dakota. And then the corrupt legislators got together and said, nah, I don't think so. We're going to ignore the ballot measure.
Starting point is 00:49:35 In fact, we're going to pass a bill killing the ballot measure that already passed. And then they bragged about it and they took pictures with gifts that they got from lobbyists. So it is not just an insult to democracy, but it chips away at our democracy. It's unacceptable. So if Republicans say we only will accept the ballot measures that we're in favor of, and we just won't enforce ballot measures that we weren't in favor of, that we lost on, well, then why are we doing ballot measures? And do we have a democracy or don't we?
Starting point is 00:50:07 Are you going to enforce the laws or are you not? Look, I know this is going to sound extreme, but I think there's a case to be made that you take them to court and then arrest them. So if you're not going to enforce the laws, then you're not. You're in violation of those laws. So that somehow the judiciary has to say to the executive branch, or in this case the legislative branch, you're not allowed to not follow the law. They pass the ballot, either don't have ballot measures, or if you have ballot measures,
Starting point is 00:50:42 you must actually adopt them. If you don't, there are going to be legal consequences for you violating the law. Well, I think given that choice, they definitely would get rid of the ballot measures. I mean, for the past couple of decades, Republicans have liked ballot measures for one thing to put anti-abortion and anti-LGBQ ballot measures on the ballot, not to pass necessarily, but to get their voters to go out and vote. They don't actually want those things. There's right wingers in the country right now calling for an end to the direct election
Starting point is 00:51:12 of senators. This is not a pro-democracy sort of party or a sort of movement. And I think it's very easy for them to just say, the people, what do they really know? I talk to people. I talk to CEOs. I talk to big donors. I know what the people want.
Starting point is 00:51:28 And it's easy to just ignore the actual voters. So as you described, Paul LePage, he spent more than a year just saying like, no, I'm not going to do it. You said we should expand Medicaid. That would have given coverage to 70,000 additional low income adults. I'm not going to do it. And so for more than a year, it didn't happen. God only knows what happened to some of those people who could have otherwise gotten
Starting point is 00:51:48 coverage. Some of them maybe got sick, developed chronic illnesses, some of them might have died. We might never know. Thankfully, the voters actually noticed what was going on and eventually replaced him, not with another Republican, but with a Democrat. That's Janet Mills, who took office last month and is instituting that expansion of Medicaid. If you want a governor who's going to actually do what you ask them to do, elect a Democrat. If you want a lawless, chaotic anarchy of rule by oligarchs, then elect Republicans because that's what they do. So guys, even in the red estates, you're actually progressive.
Starting point is 00:52:25 You pass progressive measures all the time. Missouri and Arkansas just raised the minimum wage and by landslides on expanding Medicaid, which is Obamacare. You know who voted for Utah, obviously is in this story, but also Nebraska and Idaho. You don't know it, but you're progressive. Stop voting for Republicans who hate you and who represent. Only the powerful and the wealthy, and in this case, insurers companies, et cetera. And to give you a sense of how brutal they are, in this particular case, Obamacare allows people to get Medicaid to pay for their health insurance up to 138% above the poverty line.
Starting point is 00:53:06 This new legislation in Utah says, yeah, I know that's what you guys passed, don't care, we're going to make it just people below the poverty line. So, you might wonder, well, what's 138% above the poverty line? I mean, is that really luxurious? Maybe people should just pay for their own insurance if they make that much. What are they making? 55,000 a year, 75,000 a year, what are they making? 138% above the poverty line is $17,200 a year. And the Republicans in Utah said, if you're making that much money, you're gold, you're good,
Starting point is 00:53:42 you don't need any of this help. $17,200 a year, and they think that's too luxurious. Well, why don't we turn to our last story of the first hour? You're probably going to be a little bit bored by this, so don't worry, I'll just take care of it. Okay, yesterday new representative Ilhan Omar was forced to apologize for comments she made on Twitter that were interpreted as anti-Semitic. And despite that, powerful Republicans say, nope, apologies not good enough. We're going to need more out of you. And Donald Trump has decided to add on to that saying this.
Starting point is 00:54:15 One other thing I might want to say is that anti-Semitism has no place in the United States Congress. And Congressman Omar is terrible, what she said. And I think she should either resign from Congress or she should certainly resign from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. what she said is so deep-seated in her heart that her lame apology, and that's what it was, it was lame, and she didn't mean a word of it, was just not appropriate. I think she should resign from Congress, frankly. But at a minimum, she shouldn't be on committees. Okay, deep-seated in her heart, let's take note of that.
Starting point is 00:55:05 And anyone whose anti-Semitic should resign from office, we've got. That a deal. Okay? So, now we'll come back and discuss what Ilhan Omar said was anti-Semitic, but first we turn to Donald Trump. Exactly. And don't forget a single word that he said there, because he expressed a very clear standard now.
Starting point is 00:55:23 There's no place for anti-Semitism. Now we can have a debate about whether what she intended to say was intended to be anti-Semitic. I think other politicians, including one that you might remember from that last video, have said things that are far clearer. So if you can demonstrate that someone has said something anti-Semitic. then by his standard, they have to resign. And so that's what we're going to be covering in this video. So let's start going through a few of the greatest hits from the first couple of years of Donald Trump starting here.
Starting point is 00:55:51 I'm a negotiator like you folks, we negotiated. Do you want to renegotiate deals? Some of us renegotiate deals. I would say about 99.9. Is there anybody that doesn't renegotiate deals in this room? This room negotiates. I want to renegotiate this room. Perhaps more than any room I've ever spoken to.
Starting point is 00:56:09 Maybe more. It's okay. I've been called in that a couple of times, too. You're not going to support me, even though you know I'm the best thing that could ever happen to Israel. And I'll be that. And I know why you're not going to support me. And, you know, you're not going to support me because I don't want your money. You don't want to give me money, okay? But that's okay.
Starting point is 00:56:27 You want to control your own politician. That's fine. Good. But I will tell you think about that, folks. Don't worry about. Okay. I forgot the details of that. Yeah, we rest our case.
Starting point is 00:56:40 So there's two different parts of that. He's talking to the Republican Jewish coalition, and he keeps talking about how you guys are good negotiators. Why? Why are they good negotiators? And if anyone is going to renegotiate its people in this room, why? Why would Jews renegotiate more than anybody else? I mean, you don't talk about anti-Semitic tropes.
Starting point is 00:57:01 Like you can't trust the Jews, they won't stick to their word, they'll always renegotiate. They'll ask for a better deal, they'll ask for their pound to fly. I mean, this stuff is as anti-Semitic tropes as it gets. But wait, he wasn't done, okay? Then we get to the second part. Now remember why Ilhan Omar got in so-called trouble? Because when asked why Kevin McCarthy, et cetera, is going after her for comments criticizing the policy of Israel, she said it's all about the Benjamin's.
Starting point is 00:57:32 Now, it's obviously a reference to a song, obviously reference to money, she's saying that a lot of legislators take money for their positions, which is empirically correct, okay? So they do that for pharma, they do it for big oil, they do it for every category, including in this category. She didn't say they do it more in this category, she didn't point out, she didn't say Jews, she didn't say this room, she didn't say any of that, right? And then when asked, well, who gives them the money, she correctly pointed out it's APEC.
Starting point is 00:58:05 Now, APEC does it in a way that their supporters give the money, right? But that is a well documented fact. Anyone who defies that is not a reporter, because like if you want to be careful about anti-Semitic tropes, awesome, great you should be because they're very dangerous and they lead down dark paths like Charlottesville, okay? But if you care about that particular trope and you think that Ilhan Omar was referring to how Jews control people with money, first of all, that is. entirely unfair to her because she did not single them out.
Starting point is 00:58:38 She didn't say they're worse than anybody else or anything along those eyes. But Donald Trump did. You just saw it with your own eyes. He said, well, you can't control me because I won't take your money. And that's how you control people. That is the trope. That's what trope, what a one? And he didn't say generically, hey, everybody takes money and as we say all the time,
Starting point is 00:59:02 I think it's legalized bribery, whether it's the drug companies. or any other industry, right? He said this room. More than anyone else. More than any other room. It is a million times more anti-Semitic than, look, I don't think what Ilhan Omar said is anti-Semitic at all, but if you think it was, well, then you have to be a million times more mad at Donald Trump.
Starting point is 00:59:27 And as John and I pointed out earlier, by his own standards, he must resign immediately. Yeah, and I don't know that I've ever, I want to, did we speed, we didn't speed up the video, right? That's just normal. I've never heard him speak that fast. It was like he was so excited to spread these anti-Semitic tropes in a context where he thinks he can get away with it that he was just like tripping over himself to do it. He was speaking so quickly. That should be open and shutcase. So he did that. We know exactly what sorts of jokes he was making. He thought, yeah, I can do whatever I want, whatever. But it's not, you know, a one-time thing. He's done this many times. We can go back to the very early days of his presidency, where he did this big
Starting point is 01:00:05 announcement for Holocaust Remembrance Day, and there was this big thing. Never once did it mention the Jewish religion, Jewish individuals, nothing like that. Talked to my people who died, didn't talk anything in particular about maybe there was hypothetically one type of person who died more in the Holocaust. But you wouldn't know it from the White House, sort of a weird omission. You have bizarre, petty little versions of this. Like Donald Trump back in 2013 tweeting, I promise you that I'm much smarter than Jonathan Leibowitz, I mean John Stewart at the Daily show, who, by the way, is totally overrated. Does anyone know what that is intended to mean other than, ha, he's secretly Jewish.
Starting point is 01:00:42 He's pretending he's not Jewish. And I don't even need to say anything else. I can just let you know that he's Jewish and you can fill in all the blanks for yourself. If there's any other explanation than that, I'm not aware of one. And by the way, from the family that changed his name from Trump. Exactly. For Trump, but he's pointing it out because it's Lieberwitz. If that was the only thing, I think that's pretty obvious, but you might say, well, I don't
Starting point is 01:01:06 think it's as obvious as you do, but look at all the context, and we've got more. And we've got more. So he tweeted this, Crooked Hillary makes history, most corrupt candidate ever, and she's being showered by money, and they decided to highlight that part with the Star of David for some reason. That seems a little bit weird, so weird in fact that they had to take down that tweet and replace it with a version where there was a circle around it. Now, how did he come across a meme that happened to just imply that money and corruption is implicitly involved in the Jewish
Starting point is 01:01:35 faith? What's because he regularly retweets things from anti-Semitic, far-right, neo-Nazi white supremacist sources? So he twice retweeted from the feed of the Twitter account at White Genocide, which claims to be located in Jumerica and regularly posts anti-Semitic material, you'll be shocked to find out. And once from the now-defunct account, Brit, which had an account page that featured swastika art and said, in part, quote, we should have listened to the Austrian chap with a little mustache. If Ilhan Omar had retweeted from those accounts, there'd already be calls not just from Republican leadership, but from Democratic leadership, for her to step down and end her career.
Starting point is 01:02:13 I mean, to retweet an account that talks about Jumerica, and then another one that celebrates the swastika. And Adolf Hitler? And Hitler, right? So no one on the left is within miles of that. On the left, some people dare to say that the right-wing policies in Israel are abhorrent to them, like the right-wing policies in America are abhorrent to them, and that they should have more left-wing policies.
Starting point is 01:02:40 Oh my God! And then to equate that, a false equivalency to actual anti-Semites, it's not only damaging the truth and the reality of the matter, but it also damages. our fight against anti-Semitism. Because when you compare people who didn't do it and have policy differences with people who celebrate Adolf Hitler, you've done a great injustice to an actual rising anti-Semitism in the country, which brings us to Charlottesville. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:03:12 So here we go from him just saying things and apparently believing things to him speaking in a way that that really matters, using the power and authority of his office to change things in our country. So if you get ready with video 11, we're going to jump ahead of that, you might remember Charlottesville. And you might remember the deadly consequences of this gathering of neo-Nazis and white supremacists who did nothing at all to hide what they believe, what they believe about race in America, what they believe about Judaism in America. It was incredibly clear, deadly so. And here is what he had to say about that. I think there's blame on both sides. You look at both sides. I think there's blame on
Starting point is 01:03:52 both sides. What about the alt left that came charging at the, as you say, the alt-right? Do they have any semblance of guilt? I've condemned many different groups, but not all of those people were neo-Nazis. Believe me, not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch. Same guy that believes that you can just speak about migrants at the southern border as all being murders and rapists thinks, okay, okay, fine. A lot of those people say that they're Nazis and supremacists, but they weren't all Nazis. So can we really speak negatively about them? Well, they killed someone.
Starting point is 01:04:28 Well, in his perspective on it, apparently they charged this car, right? Although we all saw the video of the car ramming into them and killing Heather Hire and injuring so many others. But if you're unclear, this is a video that existed before Donald Trump said that there were good people on this side. Let's watch video 12. Replace us. Jews will not replace us.
Starting point is 01:04:57 Jews will not replace us. He saw that video and thought there were good people on that side. And now he has the temerity to talk about how somebody else might be anti-Semitic based on policy grounds. Okay, like we said in the beginning, we accept his resignation. That's his standard, not our standard. The anti-Semitism here screams through the videos, screams through the page. If you were concerned about what Ilhan Omar said, you must be a person of principle and acknowledge the obvious fact that what Donald Trump said is at least a thousand times worse,
Starting point is 01:05:38 and by his own standard, he should immediately resign. I think that's probably good enough to end on. Yes, we're gonna take a break here, we've got a lot more where that came from. We'll also have a little bit of fun because Burning Man has a controversy about should they let rich people go. And I will take an unconventional approach to that story. We'll be right back. Thanks for listening to the full episode of the Young Turks.
