Ina-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-la-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-----old. Who doesn't love that? When we first picked it, I was like, I think it's good. I think it's good.
Since then, it's growing on me like, yes.
Da-na-na-na-na-na.
All right, anyway, you guys.
Jay Hugar and ex-bearing with you guys.
One day, Main Street media, like 38 years into our existence is going to recognize us and, like, then they're going to be like, you know, they do news really differently.
They come in and go, da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na.
That's never going to happen, so.
And that's okay.
That's okay.
It's weird.
They seem to kind of have fun with the news.
And then, like, but then they get angry because, like, the news is kind of messed up.
Yeah.
It's weird.
It's like they're humans.
Who, who let them on TV?
Anyways, so we have stories today in the news from the humans and the non-humans, or certainly
the people who don't act humanly or humanely.
So we have all that coming up for you guys.
We have the exciting conclusion of the poll of who.
Who are you guys going to vote for? Biden, Trump, someone else, or not at all? Fascinating, okay?
But before we do anything else, real quick, t-y-t.com slash go, keep Young Turks healthy. We got to press
on. That's the theme of this. Press on. Get it? Okay, t-y-t.com slash go. Can I see a thermometer
here? 79,9005. Can I see eight, we're trying to reach 200,000 every month. Can I see 80,000
before this segment is over.
Da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na------------- . . . . . but we are undefeated.
We're like Nashville. Undefeated. Okay. So, in good spirits, apparently, until we do the stories, then let's see what happens.
Yeah, let's, let's give the bad mood a little more of a pause. Because one other quick announcement,
that I want to make, got to take the wins where we can get them, guys. And I am pleased to announce
that Happy Half Hour is back. So definitely check out. So Happy Half Hour is an excellent show.
It's an excellent show no matter what we're going through, but it's especially needed during
this pandemic. It's hosted by our very own Brett Ehrlich, who's going to have his partner and wife,
Amber on for his episode on Friday. So that will air after the postgame show on Friday. Make sure
you guys check it out. They're going to talk about what it's like to help us basically make this
show run because not only is Brett directing the show right now, he's doing it with the help
of Amber. And so they're going to discuss that a little bit on Friday's episode. Make sure you check it
out. Okay. Jesus, who's married to Brett? You're going to get to find out, isn't it? Okay.
And by the way, like, not only did John Krasinski steal Brett's good looks, he also apparently
stole the whole concept of Happy Half Hour, because he's putting together some, like, weirdo
show that isn't nearly as good as Happy Half Hour is, but it has the same, like, idea.
Krasinski, let me just say this. When you hear outside your house, man, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na,
it'll be the last thing you ever hear.
Just kidding. Just kidding. We kind of like the guy. All right. Anyways, also old school's back.
We had the first episode back with me and Ben earlier in the week. We're going to have one next week as well. So check that out.
The invention of jankwitches. That's what you have to look forward to if you haven't seen the first episode back yet.
But if you remember, you can see it anytime. T.Y.T.com slash join. Okay. Let's go forward.
All right. We start off with the devastating update on the stimulus bill.
So after Trump fired the inspector general who was supposed to be the top watchdog for the
trillions of dollars in stimulus that Congress passed recently, turns out that there is a giant
portion of that stimulus bill that allows for no watchdog at all.
It has to do with a $450, I'm sorry, $450 billion portion of the bill that the Federal Reserve
is in charge of. And according to the provision, there's really no oversight at all when it comes to
that funding. So political reported on this, and they write, tucked into the recent recovery bill
was a provision granting the Federal Reserve the right to set up a $450 billion bailout plan
without following key provisions of the federal open meetings law, including announcing its
meetings or keeping most records about them. Now, this is huge because any time,
A few members of the Federal Reserve decide to get together to discuss something, they actually
have to announce it.
And not only that, they have to keep records of what they're discussing.
Under this provision, they don't have to do that.
And the argument that we're hearing from the lawmakers who signed onto this nonsense is, well,
look, we're in the middle of a pandemic.
This has to do with stimulus funding.
That's incredibly important in keeping our economy afloat.
And so the Federal Reserve needs to make decisions rapidly, and we don't want anything to hinder
that.
Politico also writes that the provision dispenses with a longstanding accountability rule that
the board has to give at least one day's notice before holding a meeting.
Experts say the change could lead to key information about the $450 billion bailout fund,
such as which firms might benefit from the program remaining inaccessible long after the bailout
is over. Also, the new law would absolve the board of the requirement to keep minutes to close
door meetings as it deliberates on how to set up the $450 billion loan program. That would
severely limit the amount of information potentially available to the public on what influenced
the board's decision making. And I need to remind everyone that that $450 billion didn't just
grow on trees, that is taxpayer money, meaning the taxes that we as average citizens,
have to pay, but some of these companies that will be bailed out have not paid.
Companies like Amazon didn't pay anything in federal taxes recently.
And I bring Amazon up because it's just one of the examples of how corporations have gotten
away without contributing to our resources.
But then they end up getting a lot of these favors behind the scenes, including bailouts.
Okay.
So now the Federal Reserve basically prints money.
And so, but it's got to be backed up by the U.S. government and our full faith and credit.
And so it's basically, it's not basically, it is a printing press.
And so it could print as much money as it wants.
Now, does it give it to individuals, U.S. citizens, that it is printing the money on behalf
of?
No.
Can it give it to small businesses?
Not really.
No.
And the amusing part of this was they're like, no, in this case, we're actually going to make the money
available to small businesses as well.
I was like, oh, why, that's really interesting.
I'm young turts is a small business, t-y-t.com slash go to keep us in business.
Anyway, so they're like small businesses of above 500 employees.
I'm like, that's not a small business.
By definition, that's not a small business.
What they mean is we normally print money and just give it to our friends who are the
largest multinational corporations in the world.
But in this case, we might also give it to other businesses that are just really, really big,
but not the ones we normally favor.
So I don't know if new donations came into U.S. senators or Donald Trump from those mid-sized
businesses or just big rather than gigantic businesses.
But apparently they're going to get some of the largest as well.
Now, the reason I bring that up is, look, this is all this money, the life.
The lion's share of the money from the recovery bill is going not from the U.S. Treasury
but from the Fed.
And so the lion's share of the money is going all to big business.
So you're getting a tiny amount of $1,200 as an individual.
Small businesses, they have a pretty good bill.
Look, I'm fair, credit where credit is due.
It does help small businesses.
But the overwhelming majority of the money is going to gigantic multinational corporations.
And maybe some of them will pay back the Fed, maybe they won't.
But that's the point of this story.
We won't know until it's way too late.
There's no accountability.
And at that point, they're like, well, there's nothing we can do.
We already gave away the house to those corporations who coincidentally gave a ton of political
donations, but didn't pay any taxes.
But when they ran into trouble, we gave them billions upon billions of dollars, and we gave
you $1,200.
Isn't that funny?
No, it's not funny and it's not right.
So look, if you're asking for reasonable accommodations, like we need to be able to meet
with three out of the five Fed Reserve members without triggering a notice in these urgent
circumstances, there is a reasonable way to accommodate that request.
But when you say, hey, I'm not going to give you notes and I'm not going to give you details
of how we're deciding and who we're giving the money to, hell no.
There's no way they should allow that.
The only reason they do is because those U.S. senators who did this bill on both sides
of the aisle take bribes from those same corporations called campaign contributions.
Yeah, look, absolutely.
And just to give you some more details, the board would only have to keep a record of its votes.
Now, it wouldn't have to explain those votes, just keep records of it, though they wouldn't
have to be made public during the coronavirus crisis.
Okay, let's stop for a second. That is our money. Okay. We as U.S. taxpayers need to stop acting
as if that money comes from someplace else and that we're not entitled to it ever when we need
help as average citizens, but that, you know, major corporations are entitled to it.
We deserve transparency. That is our money. Can you imagine going to a business, okay? You walk in
And the first thing they tell you is you need to pay this amount without even knowing what the product is, whether the product works, whether you like the product.
Like, there's just no transparency in how this stimulus bill was written when it comes to the bailouts.
And the amazing thing to me is Democrats played this like big political theater game where they made it appear as though they were going to block the bill unless they got the oversight that they demanded when it came to those corporate bailouts.
But they're actually pretty clear in saying that they wanted oversight when it came to
the portion of the stimulus bill that Steve Mnuchin was in charge of.
But now they're saying like, yeah, I mean, this isn't really that big of a deal because
the Federal Reserve is going to be able to oversee and deal with the bulk of the funding
for the bailouts.
But like, why should we just trust the people on the Federal Reserve?
Yeah.
We deserve transparency.
Two more things.
One, finding out afterwards who they gave it to is borderline irrelevant.
The reason they don't want you find out during coronaviruses, because then you might be able
to do something about it.
Like if they're like, oh, we, by the way, we're sneaking $85 billion to Amazon who paid
zero dollars in taxes, people might be like, wait, why Amazon?
Why that number?
That seems like a big number.
Why?
And they'll like, but if they tell you two years later, like, oh, well, nothing we can
They already got it.
They already got it.
It's already gone, right?
And so I picked Amazon out of a hat there.
I don't know why they would necessarily give to Amazon, but we'll never know.
Certainly not know in enough time to do anything about it.
And that's the whole point of them, the elites, running the government in secret.
It's a democracy.
That's not how it's supposed to work.
I don't need to know everything that was said verbatim.
And I get the need to be able to have private conversations from time to time.
But when you are doing the people's business and handing out a giant amount of, you know,
of money, we of course need to know where it's going in a democracy, which leads me to my last
point. Imagine if instead of giving it to, I don't know how many companies are going to give it to,
but a hundred is a fair guess. These are really big companies, right? I don't know if it'll be 20,
it'll be 200, but let's say 100, ballpark, right? Imagine if instead of giving to 100 companies,
they were going to give $450 billion to 100 people. And they said, oh, yeah, we're just going to
give it to 100 folks inside the country, but we're not going to tell you who. And you're
going to have to trust us that we had the right deliberations. We use the right standards.
And, you know, we just having to pick those 100 people to give $450 billion to. And they
might or might not pay us back. Everybody would go nuts. They'd like, wait, why's Bob getting
and I'm not getting it? Who's Bob? And what are we're going to find out who the 100 people
are? But when it's 100 companies, everybody's like, oh, yeah, of course, bow your head.
Companies rule us all. We're ruled by corporations. Tom Steyer.
You know, that's why I defended him throughout all the debates in the campaign.
You know, he had a lot of money, and that's why he was in the race, that's true.
But the one thing he kept pounding home was, you don't get it.
There's corporate rule America in America.
Corporations rule us by bribing all of our politicians.
That's 100% right.
So whenever there's an emergency, we are the least of their priorities, even though the citizens
financed this government and theoretically voted in theoretically are in charge.
But in reality, the corporations are in charge, they take our money and give it to themselves.
All right.
Well, let's move on to probably my favorite story of the day.
Again, take the wins where you can get them.
Trump already has agreements with his new chief of staff, Mark Meadows.
You know what that means?
As the White House turns.
I'm disappointed in the Attorney General.
So Mark Meadows is like any other upper-level management person who gets hired at a company, right?
They want to come in and they want to shake things up.
But here's the thing.
In the Trump administration, people don't like shake-ups.
Trump doesn't like disagreement.
And Mark Meadows is already, you know, making some changes when it comes to staffers,
The White House press secretary has been replaced.
And so his days are numbered.
That is my speculation.
But let me give you the details.
Bloomberg's reporting that the new chief of staff kicked off his tenure by ousting a
top legislative liaison last week.
And then on Monday, replacing the White House press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, a story that
we had talked about previously.
Now Meadows brought in Trump campaign spokeswoman Kaylee McEnany as press secretary and also
installed two loyalists in the communications operation, Pentagon spokeswoman Elisa Farah and
his top congressional aide, Ben Williamson. Other aides may depart in the near future, including
the chief of domestic policy, Joe Grogan. So he's already making some enemies. All that stuff,
you know, we'll talk about how much of an impact it'll make when it comes to his tenure
within the Trump administration. But what's really a major red flag for me,
or should be for him, is that he decided to call the Republican governors in the country
and urge them to call for a stay-at-home order. Now, as we know, there are still red states
that have refused to do that. Meadows is urging them to do it. And Trump doesn't agree with Meadows
on that. Trump thinks that it should be left to the governors to make that decision for themselves.
So he's obviously going against what Trump has said, and we'll see how that plays out.
Yeah, so look, I really thought Bernie should have given the endorsement back of Joe Grogan.
So I knew his days were numbered in the White House.
Your child.
Fine, I have a child.
And by the way, no Bernie should not have given it back.
Okay.
So now on to the real things.
Look, what I look forward to when any time a top conservative gets into the Trump administration
is watching him humiliate himself later.
That's my favorite thing in the world.
Okay.
So here's how this is going to go,
because it's gone this way every single time.
New guy comes in and thinks,
oh, this is, yeah, I'm going to assert myself.
I'm an alpha male here.
You know, I'm right with her, and I'm strong and I'm tough.
Okay, I'm going to move around the furniture, okay?
Grisham, you're gone, right?
And now I'm bringing my guys in.
Grogan, go back to your podcast.
I'm done with you, right?
He does all this stuff.
So then Trump goes, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, who do you think you are?
Okay.
Are you messing?
Are you challenging my ego?
Is that what you're doing here, Mark Meadows?
And then they get, like, then they get taken aback.
So the first phase is them doing whatever they thought they were to do.
The second phase is when they realize that Trump is nuts, okay?
That's my favorite part, even better than the humiliation.
When they're like, when they're in the, and somebody asked my question, like, well, it's a little
bit more volatile than I expected, okay, meaning like, wow, I thought it was the fake news that
he was nuts and incredibly stupid and all that stuff. It turns out it's not fake news. It's totally
real. And so you can see like that, then they get that scared look on their face, like,
am I going to be okay? I don't think I'm going to be okay. And then the final stage,
is when they bow down and they have to go out there on the press conferences or whatever
and be like, no, it's true. Donald Trump is the greatest emperor. I mean, president we've ever
had. And me, I'm useless. Oh, yes. That's my favorite part. Yeah, I'm nothing compared to the
greatness of Donald Trump. And they walk out as broken men. Oh, I love that.
It is, it is pretty sweet. I must admit. I'm going to use an announcement.
We're like, it's almost like when you're on vacation, like that's what it feels like when
you see them broken and that moment when they realize that Trump is a crazy person and that
they couldn't have outsmarted.
It's a weird way of saying it, but outsmarted Trump in being an egotistical, mean-spirited
person.
Like Trump is number one.
They can't outsmart him in that regard.
But like where we are today with this story is like the feeling I get, the deal.
day before I'm going to go on vacation, like the vacation is what feels real good. But that
anticipation of the vacation also feels pretty damn good. So I'm in good spirits today
because I know it's coming for Mark Meadows. Oh, yeah, yeah. Look, he destroys these conservatives
one by one. He's destroyed way more conservatives than he has libs. Okay, you want to talk about
living rent free inside people's heads. Mark Trump's about to put up a living room inside your head.
So it's impossible to deal with Trump for a number of reasons.
One, you have to be great on TV, otherwise he gets annoyed that you're not getting good ratings.
But number two, you can't be better than him.
So you've got to walk a tiny, tiny line there, right?
Where you're good enough but not too good on television.
And you have to be strong enough for him to respect you, but not so strong that you challenge
his tiny, fragile ego, right?
or his gigantic fragile ego.
So those are impossible balancing acts.
And then the last part of it is...
One of the hardest parts of getting older
is feeling like something's off in your body,
but not knowing exactly what.
It's not just aging.
It's often your hormones, too.
When they fall out of balance, everything feels off.
But here's the good news.
This doesn't have to be the story of your next chapter.

There is no rhyme or reason.
And so they keep waiting for, yes, but he'll act rationally.
So when I help him with his goals, our mutual goals of hating Latinos and putting black people
down and doing Muslim bands or whatever, then we'll be on the same team.
No, you won't because it isn't about that.
It's about a fickle child who only operates based on ego and is easily movable by the last
person who came into his office who's going to convince him that you're a bad guy within
13 seconds.
And that's usually Ivanka and Jared Kushner.
So they're dealing with Joffrey Barathean and they don't realize it.
And Joffrey is not going to, it doesn't make rational decisions on who he hits with a crossbow.
Okay, it's just whatever mood he's in, right?
That's why the only person who survives under Joffrey is Circe, his mom, and the only people
that survive under Trump are Ivanka and Jared Kushner.
That's it.
Everyone else is crossbow fodder.
So that's what happened to Mark Meadows, and it's going to be fun to watch.
So to that point, I also want to just quickly mention, it's not just that he crossed Donald
Trump, but he fired a top spokesperson for Ivanka Trump, someone who, who.
Ivanka had a lot of admiration for. That person's gone. And then, this is my favorite part,
Stephanie Grisham, who was the ridiculous White House press secretary that didn't even hold a single
press conference, she's been replaced, right? And what Mark Meadows wanted to do was just
put her as one of the communications directors for the White House. But remember that Stephanie
Grisham originally worked for Melania Trump. She has a great relationship with Melania Trump.
Melania, who never releases formal statements or formal announcements, seemed to be so irritated
with what Mark Meadows did that she released a formal announcement indicating that Stephanie
Grisham would not be a communications director, but would now serve as her chief of staff.
So that's nice drums.
And I love it as the White House terms.
But realistically, it doesn't look like Melania has much power on the White House.
So she can do these kind of things.
like, you know, oh, yeah, I look at this, but it doesn't really matter. She preemptively
sequestered herself three years ago when they got into the White House. But the person
that does have a tremendous amount of power, second, and maybe first, because Donald Trump
doesn't have a mind. So it's just like whoever's in the room last, whoever made the most
compelling case based on his ego, et cetera, et cetera. So it's not like he has an agenda. He's
like, what am I doing? Huh? What? Yeah, of course. Yeah, build a wall. I don't know. Whatever, right?
So he's that guy.
So probably the person most powerful right now is Ivanka Trump.
So if you fired a staffer for Ivanka Trump thinking you'll show her and everyone else in
the White House who's in charge, my guess is that was a terrible mistake.
It's Ivanka and Jared who are taking everyone out.
Everyone comes in and they talk about sniping and this is a nest of vipers and what is going on.
Everybody's leaking like crazy.
You know who it is?
It's Ivanka and Jared.
They're the ones that have taken out everyone.
I've watched enough Game of Thrones to see what's going on here.
Okay.
Yeah.
Meadows goes in.
Meadows goes out.
You can't explain it.
So why should we get it?
We just did.
When you speak out of Ivanka Staffer, the last words to you are,
Bye, bye, bye. It was nice knowing you, Mark. It's only a matter of time. Right now, he doesn't know it,
but he did that five-finger heart tap thing from Kill Bill. And his career is going to explode
in about six months or so. Can't wait. All right, we got to take a break. When we come back,
we have the results of the general election poll that we gave you guys yesterday. So we'll
talk about that a little bit. And also share with you one of the dumbest conversations on MSN
We need to talk about a relatively new show called Un-F-The-Republic, or UNFTR.
As a Young Turks fan, you already know that the government, the media, and corporations are
constantly peddling lies that serve the interests of the rich and powerful.
But now there's a podcast dedicated to unraveling those lies, debunking the conventional
wisdom.
In each episode of Un-F-The-Republic, or UNFTR, the host delves into a different historical
episode or topic that's generally misunderstood or purposely obfuscated by the so-called
powers that be. Featuring in-depth research, razor-sharp commentary, and just the right
amount of vulgarity, the UNFTR podcast takes a sledgehammer to what you thought you knew
about some of the nation's most sacred historical cows. But don't just take my word for it.
The New York Times described UNFTR as consistently compelling and educational, aiming to
challenge conventional wisdom and upend the historical narratives that were taught in school.
For as the great philosopher Yoda once put it,
you must unlearn what you have learned.
And that's true whether you're in Jedi training or you're uprooting and exposing all the
propaganda and disinformation you've been fed over the course of your lifetime.
So search for UNFDR in your podcast app today and get ready to get informed, angered,
and entertained all at the same time.
All right, back on a young church, Jake Hugar, Anna Kasparian with you guys.
The reason you sometimes see me leaning in when we come back from a break is not because I work
at MSNBC, but because I check my computer for your comments.
No, they lean forward, right?
Tiny lean forward.
They used to.
Anyway, all right. So exciting poll results. So yesterday we asked you guys if now that Bernie Sanders has dropped out who you are thinking of voting for. Now, we have obviously a very progressive audience, a very large audience. I'm not saying anything. I'm just saying. So it's curious to see if you guys are going to vote for Biden. I think a lot of the country is curious to see whether you're going to vote for Biden. So near the end of this voting, we're going to vote for Biden.
Magotrols came in and did a bunch of votes for Trump, because we had Trump as a potential
person you might vote for as well.
And at first I was amused by that.
I don't really care at all.
But then, of course, you read their comments.
It's all anti-Semitic and horrific.
But anyway, guess what?
Our scientists slash me weeded those out.
I looked into early polling before the trolls came in, and there was almost no Trump votes
at all.
So Trump got, I think, two votes before the trolls got in.
So de minimis, nothing at all, okay?
So our audience apparently not planning to vote for Trump, which is great news, and I'm not
at all surprised by that.
So then we isolated the numbers without Trump, and we looked at it.
And so, ta-da, it turns out Biden is going to get the plurality of your votes.
But, and obviously this is non-scientific guys.
We're not a conservative website trying to make it appear like this is scientific.
This is just a snapshot.
And as you can see, a little over 2,000 people voted if we, if the trolls hadn't come
in, maybe we could have gone longer and we'll fix that and we'll get you polls without trolls.
Polls without trolls.
Yeah, polls without trolls.
Okay.
Anyway, but guys, this is actually really important.
If this is anywhere near accurate, and that's a big if I grant you, but you got more than
a quarter saying they're going to vote for someone else, not Biden or Trump, and you've
got a little over a quarter saying that they're not going to vote.
So that means Joe Biden has got a lot of work ahead of him in convincing progressives to
vote for him, to show up and to vote for him rather than, I don't know, Green Party or anyone
else.
And so when the mainstream media sees that, what they're going to see is, we knew it.
It's Bernie Sanders' fault or the Young Turks' fault.
No.
Well, you have seven months to run this campaign.
It is now the responsibility of the Biden team to change those numbers.
They're the candidate.
They're the team.
And either they're going to win or we're going to have Trump again.
So for God's sake, figure out how to appeal to those people.
By the way, a hint, it might be progressive policies and progressive personnel.
And if you do that, you win them over.
If you don't win them over, oh boy, buckle up and brace for impact.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
So I kind of skipped into that story, but I got to give you your comments because they're
amazing and they're fun.
Anna's Margarita Salt says, TYT's theme song reminds me of a high
hockey fight song. It's like I hear it and I'm totally ready to fight for what's right.
Oh, I love it. The mathematician says Anna and Jenker in a good mood. The cabin fever may be getting
to them. L.O.L. Totally true. And I get more amped up when I didn't do a show the day before.
Actually, I like you guys old current TV show intro music. That was better. But I digress.
That's what he says. But thank you. Appreciate it. This is my favorite. Shrifty says, my one-year-old was
falling asleep in her playpen, but jumped up and started dancing when she heard the T-Y-T
intro song.
I'm telling you, man, everyone loves it.
It's such a good choice, and I never get tired of hearing it.
Yeah, my daughter, maybe we'll talk more about this in the postgame, just yesterday decided
I'm putting out my ballet outfit and putting out a performance for you guys.
Get it, girl.
Out of nowhere.
Get it.
Okay.
All right.
Last couple, YouTube super chat, Craig Reeves, says, this primary is shown the only way we'll
win is by progressive candidates, but more importantly, progressive media, making efforts
to appeal to a broader audience if Biden's base were watching TYT, Bernie would have won.
I think that is absolutely correct.
I know it's easy for me to say that, but I believe that with all my being, not because
of the Young Turks, but because if they were listening to Democracy now, then Bernie
would have won and Biden would have lost. So media, unfortunately, is everything. That's why we ask
you guys to help, because it's so important for us to press on. So t-y-t.com slash go. Let's see if we
really did hit 80,000 in that last break. Can I see that thermometer? Whoa!
Can I see 82,000 by the next break? TYT.com slash go. And you're going to find out why in a second
or at least part of the reason why, because Goku Guinea also on YouTube super chat said added
$500 to t-y-t.com slash go. Wow, Goku for the win. Thank you, brother. Really, really appreciate
and thank you for using YouTube super chat too. All right, Anna, let's do it. All right. Obama's former
campaign manager, Jim Messina, was speaking to Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC about Bernie dropping out
and Biden now becoming the Democratic nominee for the general election.
The conversation was fascinating.
Let's just take a look.
What do we expect, do you think, from former President Obama,
now that there is at least an apparent nominee?
Well, first on President Trump, this is his worst nightmare, right?
The Ukraine stuff, everything else he's been doing for the past year and a half
is trying to make sure Joe Biden is not his opponent.
And this morning, it is clear that Joe Biden will be his opponent,
which is the best case scenario for the Democrats.
You know, this move by Bernie Sanders allows the two big powers in the Democratic Party,
Barack and in some ways, as importantly, Michelle Obama, to now come off the sidelines and get involved.
I mean, people forget that Michelle Obama is the most popular political figure in America by far,
having Barack and Michelle Obama on the trail, talking to both the base and these swing voters,
especially these swing women voters, who abandoned the Democrats in 2016,
came back big time in 2018 to give Nancy Pelosi the House of Representatives.
Having the two of them out there in a full-throated manner is a very, very big deal.
And Joe Biden will do what Joe Biden's always done in these moments, right?
He will sit back. He will be very classy. He will congratulate people.
And he will unite the base. I think Bernie's language was really important today.
When he said, united, we stand together to defeat Donald Trump.
There will be no replay of 2016, as you pointed out, which was kind of a lot.
a half-hearted endorsement. He and Joe Biden are personal friends, and the base will be united
to beat Donald Trump, who is in Democrat's estimation, the most serious threat of our lifetime.
And in fact, I thought it was interesting that Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders actually had a
conversation in recent days talking about the vice presidential pick. So I think that there's a lot
that Joe Biden is probably going to run by Bernie Sanders. Okay, I have to just mention one thing,
Jank before you go all in. At one point, Jim Messina said that Biden is the best case scenario
for the Democrats. I want to go ahead and basically like decode what he said there because
he's not talking about Democratic voters. Understand that Jim Messina is a Democratic operative,
right? He was Obama's campaign manager. So when he's saying that, what he's really saying
is Biden is best case scenario for Democratic operatives who are looking to either keep their
jobs or look to get hired again in the future in Biden's administration, should he win.
Because like, how do you look at Biden as a candidate and think, no, no, no, best case scenario
to beat Trump? I mean, we've talked about the reasons why he's not the strongest candidate
to beat Trump. And so unless Messina hasn't watched a single debate and is completely,
I'm completely unaware of what's going on.
What he's really referring to right there is himself and his friends.
He's deeply connected to people who are in Obama's administration.
He's got a future career to look after, and that's it.
That's the way that I read it.
Yeah.
So when you have a candidate, you have his team with him, and you have, then you have
the periphery.
So for example, Bernie has a strong team that he had with him, and he would have brought them
into the White House.
And then he would have really had to stretch to find other people to fill his administration
with, because there haven't been a lot of progressives in power.
And he wouldn't want to use Obama or Clinton people, because they're not ideologically
aligned with it.
They wouldn't help him get to his goals.
They would probably divert him and tell him, oh, no, you got to make sure you look out
for the lobbyists and the consultants and the corporations, et cetera, et cetera, because
that's largely how they make a living.
So when Biden wins, not only does his team win, and his team's a little bit definitely
better than the Hillary team, and they're not that bad, I'm more worried about the candidate
than the team.
But the second thing that happens is all the Obama people are back, guys like Messina.
They're all back in the ball game, can't wait to go back to the White House, go through
that revolving door, baby, okay, go back into the White House, come back at me, make even more
money as a consultant.
So that's why they're thrown a party at former Obama administration officials when Biden wins.
Now, look, again, to Anna's point, you think Messina is actually looking at those debates and all the facts?
Biden has the least amount of excited, strong support among his own voters than any Democratic presidential candidate in modern history.
He has trouble finishing a sentence, I could go on and on and on.
No one thinks Biden is the strongest candidate.
By the end, everyone on TV, everyone in the establishment wanted Biden over Bernie Sanders.
But in the beginning, they didn't even want Biden.
They wanted Buttigieg, Klobuchar, et cetera.
So saying that this is the best case, you know, that Trump is scared of Biden, come on.
No, Jane.
No one believes that.
Messina went even further than that, okay?
This was the second thing that released it out to me, and I thought it was ridiculous.
He thinks that the white women who swung and voted for Trump are going to get excited about
Michelle Obama entering the fray and endorsing Biden and that that is going to get them to vote
for Biden.
That Michelle Obama endorsing Biden will convince them to not vote for Trump, but to vote
for Biden.
Like I don't know, I just feel like that calculation, like what?
is the evidence of that? Like, why would you think that these women who were totally comfortable
voting for a man who's been brutal to women, to people of color, to the disenfranchise?
Like, what makes you think that they're going to switch and vote for Biden when, like,
I mean, do you think Michelle Obama's really like the persuading factor in all this? I just don't,
I'm not buying it at all. And look, the thing that I worry about the most is like, I'm seeing
a lot more of that like overconfident nature from the Democratic establishment in this race.
Don't get cocky and don't get too confident because that was one of the grave mistakes that
were made in 2016.
Yeah. So let me decipher the Michelle Obama comment. So is Michelle Obama popular a role? Definitely.
And if you said, hey, Michelle Obama is going to help turn out Democratic voters, you'd be absolutely
right. And so, or I hope you're right. Okay.
She's very popular within Democratic Party.
So there's another wrong with that point.
But if you say she's going to say, as Anna pointed out, white women who voted for Trump,
they're going to be like, oh, an African-American first lady, I voted for Trump.
I go, yeah, oh my God, I'm so excited.
I'm going to vote for, no, that's a preposterous thing to say.
So why is he saying that?
When he first said, this will unite the two powerful forces in the Democratic Party, I thought
what he was going to say, Biden and Bernie Sanders, the establishment wing and the progressive
wing. Then he said Obama, and I was like, oh, okay, well, that makes sense. Obama and Bernie,
the establishment wing and the progressive wing. He's like, no, Obama and Obama. Okay, so basically,
he's saying, remember, the Obama team is back. And a small kernel of maybe pushing Michelle Obama
for VP. Now, people say she doesn't want that. I have no idea if that's true or not. I don't
know, but pretend to know anything about Michelle Obama's state of mind. But a little throw of like,
well, if you had Michelle Obama endorsing you, that would be very exciting, very exciting.
Yeah. Look, I don't know if that's what was happening there. But I do agree with you. Anytime
someone says, I don't plan on running for president, no, I don't want to be the VP.
like, just believe the opposite of what they're saying.
Because they all want it.
They all want it badly.
Like, I never believe it.
Absolutely.
And last thing is Andrea Mitchell also saying, oh, this has got to be the worst case scenario
for Donald Trump.
She's not a Democratic consultant or strategist.
She's a reporter.
Who's married to Allen Greenspan, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, look, I don't care who she's married to.
All I know is, like,
Really, your analysis of the current state of politics is that Donald Trump is afraid of
Joe Biden because of what a dynamic, incredible candidate he is, and that that's, boy, now Trump
is in trouble. That's your analysis. And you're a reporter. Now, gee, I wonder why Bernie lost
when you have so-called journalists like this acting as cheerleaders for Joe Biden to the tune
of hundreds of millions of dollars.
We got to take a break, but when we come back,
there are some major strikes happening
among fast food workers in California.
I want to give you the details to that and more.
At TYT, we frequently talk about all the ways
that big tech companies are taking control
of our online lives, constantly monitoring us

All right, back on a Young Turks, Jank and Anna with you guys.
So, first of all, I'm proud that I figured out what the aspiration deal is with the trees.
So I want to tell you guys.
So there's two things you can do to plant trees.
If you go to Aspiration.com slash TYT and sign up to have Aspiration be your progressive financial
institution where you put your money.
So first of all, when you sign up through that, boom, we plant 10 trees for you.
I don't know we were planting trees.
We're planting trees.
We're going to have a TYT forest, okay?
But you sign up 10 trees.
We save the world.
Aspiration.com slash TYT.
Yeah.
Like, we're literally physically planting trees?
Over the weekend, Anna, you and I, grab a shovel, we're going to go plant some trees.
No, we're planning dead trees for every single sign of.
No, no, we're going to have it professionally done.
Don't worry.
Oh, okay, okay, because the plants in my home right now, not doing so well.
And I've been home, obviously, so I would worry about those trees.
We're going to play trees ourselves.
Okay, we got shows to do.
Anyway, but trees are getting planted.
Aspiration.com slash T.Y.T.
And then once you have your aspiration card, they will plant trees for you as well if you check
off Roundup.
Like if you ask them to round up your purchases, like if something is like $5.73 or 27 cents,
go check it out when you sign up.
If you ask them to round up, they'll plant a tree for you, okay?
So now, let me give you guys comments.
Only mostly dead, right?
in the member section. I signed up as a Democrat in 2016 after being NPA third party for three
decades, just because Bernie was running. If the Democratic Party thinks I will vote for some
establishment candidate who will sell out my interest, they are wrong. My wife and I are looking
for a new country to live in. Wow. Okay. Peter Goddess makes a great point. I don't think
female swing voters came back to give Pelosi back the house. I think they showed up to vote
anti-choice and conservative Congress people out. Pelosi was just a sign of
It's a great point.
Like, he threw that in there like, oh, yeah, the voters love Pelosi so much.
They did her a favor by giving the house back.
Absurd.
It's insane how the elites think.
And then I'm going to read this one just for fun.
Marina Pena Pena says, freaking drink cracks me up.
Wink, wink, wink.
Oh, all right.
Thank you, Marina.
I appreciate that.
And laughing Buddha astronaut says, I'm going to vote for Biden if he evolves.
And so I guess he wants him to work for unity.
And then YouTube super chat, I got to read this because it's an important one from the field.
Franklin Shrappel Slicer writes in from Casper, Wyoming, multiple people gathered to protest
businesses shutting down.
Wyoming is a Republican state's, uh, pots illegal, so I think we could use a drink.
Yes, we have stupid people too.
Love you guys.
Thanks for being.
Love you, Franklin.
Thank you for using YouTube super chat.
And try to, I know it's not going to work, but for right wingers in your red states,
Do not gather in public.
We're trying to help you.
We're not trying to hurt you.
All right, Anna, what's next?
All right.
Like many people who are doing their shows,
Ellen DeGeneres is now doing her show
from her $24 million home.
And recently she joked about it.
Writing on Twitter,
being in quarantine is like being in jail.
It's mostly because I've been wearing the same clothes
for 10 days and everyone here is gay.
Okay. So that was what she joked on her show. A former NBC Universal executive tweeted
that joke on Twitter. And in response to it, there was a woman who uses the Twitter handle
Open Mind, Texas, who actually like called this joke out because I think a lot of people
were kind of like, eh, this is kind of in bad taste because not everyone's got a $24 million
dollar mansion to like hang out in in the middle of a pandemic. And so open mind Texas writes,
my 19 year old daughter is considered an essential employee. She's a fast food worker. She's
exposed every day. No one cares about Ellen's privileged, pampered, but stuck in her mansion.
Show me Ellen working the lines at grocery at the grocery store, no mask, no gloves. Then I might
care. At that point, Mike Sington, who's the former NBC Universal Executive, wrote back and
said, your daughter is a hero. And you know, we've been hearing that statement a lot. And I think
that it is true. These are people who are risking quite a bit to work and to provide for all
of us, whether it's food, mail, things that we need. And then there was even more truth thrown
at him by Open Mind, Texas. Then she writes, no, she's a slave of capitalism. She's
terrified, I'm terrified. She can't quit because she'd be homeless. She can't come home
because she could infect me and her sister. Let's call it what it is. She's not a hero. She's
a sacrifice demanded by the elites. So I actually reached out to her because I noticed that
she was following me on Twitter and I wanted to know if there was anything else she wanted
to add while we talk about this story. And apparently one of her friends wanted to share a message,
and this is what the message was. We need to talk about what happened.
happens to these frontline workers once this pandemic has passed, do we go back to treating
them like second class citizens, such as, oh, they're so important now, but it's over,
back to a crappy reality.
We need to value people every day, not just when a crisis hits.
And I totally agree with her.
And a story related to all of this jank is that fast food workers in California have begun
a strike. And it's affected pretty much every major fast food company in the state. And what they want
is beyond reasonable. It's stuff that they should have had from day one. For instance, since
they're putting their lives at risk to do this job, they want hazard pay. They also want
personal protective gear so they don't contract the virus. And they want, and this is incredibly
reasonable, two weeks of paid sick leave should they test positive for COVID-19. By the way, at least three
fast food employees have already tested positive for COVID-19.
I'm sure that number's actually higher, though, because testing is still hard to get.
Yeah. So I want to make one point here that is a little different and then agree with you on some of the most important stuff.
So look, every once in a while a celebrity makes a joke and everybody piles on and calls them the worst people alive.
I get why people who are upset at the same time, we can get upset about the state of events
without like thinking that Ellen is the worst person in the world for making what probably
appeared to be an innocuous joke in the beginning.
And then they go and pile on the guy who called her daughter a hero, he was trying to
be a good guy.
I get why you, like, I love the tweet from the mom because she's saying, look, I want you to
understand that this isn't about being a hero, it's that we have no choice out here.
We just, we need to be able to make a living and they're making her go to work.
And so that's a great, great point.
It's such an important point, but I think we make that point without attacking a guy who
is trying to be helpful or attacking Ellen, who I think was doing a benign joke.
Look, if we end all jokes, it's going to be a miserable place to live.
So my small defense of Ellen and the other guy.
Okay, now, way more importantly, other the most important stuff, look, are you kidding me?
McDonald's is not offering masks and gloves to their workers.
Not only does that endanger them, it endangers everyone who goes to McDonald's.
The minute I read that story, I was like, oh, that's it, I'm done with it.
It's no way I'd go to McDonald's.
Their workers aren't wearing gloves and masks.
So, I mean, that is, it's an obvious health hazard.
I mean, in the bathrooms, oh, make sure employees wash your hands.
But in the middle of coronavirus, go ahead and sneeze all over the food and touch it with
your hands without gloves.
Are you insane?
Of course they should have mask and gloves.
And yes, also to protect them.
They're human beings.
I mean, it is literally the bare, bare minimum you could do to care about your employees
to protect their lives.
And they're not willing to do that.
I find that unconscionable.
Yeah, I'm proud of them for striking in California because, I mean, it is incredible
because there's a lot of like, I think, look, the whole your daughter is a hero thing.
I hear you. I think that he didn't like mean anything bad by it. I think he's trying to be a good
person. But but the thing is there's a lot of like talk about, oh, these people are heroes.
Oh, these people. Thank you so much for working in the middle of this pandemic. But like let's
also discuss action in compensating them for what they're doing appropriately and making sure
that they're safe. You know, like there's a lot of, there's just a lot of talk always. And we need to like
really think about what people are putting on the line just to work.
And we also have to think about how a lot of people don't even have the option of staying
home during the pandemic.
Because like the help that's been offered to us by Congress, sure, the unemployment part
of that stimulus bill they passed is pretty good.
But when you think about how long it's going to take for you to even qualify for those benefits
and how a lot of people have private loans and those like debt collectors, you know,
are on their asses right now.
A lot of people don't have the option of staying home.
And so they're literally risking their lives in order to be able to pay their bills.
And it's just a real discussion that I think people are ready to have, which is why Ellen
got the kind of reaction she did.
Look, guys, we got all of our staff out of the office and studios as soon as possible.
Now, I get McDonald's in the food business, but you're going to have your guys go in there
without health and without mass and gloves.
And then you're going to deny them sick leave if they get coronavirus?
Look, it's just, it's beyond imagination.
Totally unacceptable.
So we are going to have an awesome postgame today.
As you all know, Bernie Sanders has dropped out of the race.
Cardi B was a huge supporter of his, and she is salty as hell.
