You're listening to The Young Turks, the online news show.
Make sure to follow and rate our show with not one, not two, not three, not four, but five stars.
You're awesome. Thank you.
All right.
All right, well, the other than church, Jake U Granite is fair with you guys.
We're going to have a great show.
We've got several instances of Donald Trump being wildly racist.
I know you're shocked.
But we have the McMansion gangsters who threaten to shoot protesters.
We got it all here on the Young Turks.
And we have an amazing story in the postgame that I already forgot which one it is.
But I'll tease it later for you guys when I remember.
But I do remember it's amazing.
Anyways, so speaking of teasing things that are coming up, you know, we've got a channel on Twitch now.
It's gangbusters.
Tommy Chong last week between me and Uyghur had the most amazing stories, the most amazing.
Okay, now this week we start right out of the gate tonight, common room, John, Brett,
J.R. Emma Vickland, okay? All besties. I hear to talk about some sort of sex scandals,
that sounds wrong. So of course you can go there at Twitch.TV slash
TYT, lots of T's in there, Twitch.TV slash
TYT, check that out tonight at 10 o'clock Eastern.
10 o'clock Eastern, best time for a saucy show.
And then speaking of saucy shows, tomorrow, we get a lot of things for you guys.
Normally members get old school, all of old school in the post game exclusively.
TYT.com slash join to become a member.
Hello, the join button is right down below if you're on YouTube.
There's also one on Facebook.
Anyways, but tomorrow it's all free because it's leading up to
to the Tuesday special that we've got.
So, Romanov versus Hickenlooper, giant battle royale,
set in Colorado, Hickenlooper had a 51 point lead.
It has evaporated.
Here comes Romanov.
If Romanov wins that election, it's even bigger than Bowman.
It would be an unreal earthquake, and there isn't any seat that a progressor couldn't win.
So check that out, that's tomorrow night.
And by the way, if you're in Colorado for God's sake vote, there's a couple other elections
too, but Romanov versus Hickenlooper's the title match there.
And it's me, Emma Biglin and Benjamin Dixon.
But the show starts at 5.30 p.m. We got some great guests for you guys, including
Liz Winsentz, the creator of the Daily Show, and it goes all the way through that coverage.
So extravaganza tomorrow night.
All right, extravaganza right now, Casper, go.
All right. Well, we start off with some foreign policy.
news that's definitely putting a damper on Trump's day, but I think that we should exercise
some skepticism with this story. So let me give you the details. U.S. intelligence is alleging
that Russia implemented a ploy to essentially pay bounties to members of the Taliban in Afghanistan
to kill American troops. Now, they believe the intelligence community that at least one U.S.
troop has died as a result of this plot.
And I do want to note that there are two different intelligence agencies who have some conflicting
reports on what they're alleging.
And the NSC spokesman, John Juliet, notes that, quote, the veracity of the underlying allegations
continue to be evaluated.
I just think it's important for everyone to know where we stand today and what we know
based on the reporting, which again is based on what the CIA is sharing with the media.
So the crucial information, according to the CIA, that led to spies and commandos to focus
on the bounties, included the recovery of a large amount of American cab raid on a Taliban
outpost that prohibition. So interrogations of captured militants, the New York Times
reports, and criminals played a central role in making the intelligence community confident
in its assessment that the Russians had offered and paid bounties in 2019.
Now, there's one thing that I just
Taliban sees the U.S. presence in Afghanistan as an occupation, as an occupying force.
The Taliban does not need any type of motivation or incentive from Russians to carry out any type of act of violence
toward members of our military, but also keep in mind that there's been a disagreement
between Donald Trump and our military generals over whether or not we should withdraw from Afghanistan.
Now, military general, the Pentagon, for the most part, would like to remain in Afghanistan,
but Donald Trump has been negotiating with the Taliban in order to create a situation
in which U.S. troops can be withdrawn. So I just think any type of information or any type of
CIA intel that makes it appear as though we need to remain in Afghanistan and that Russia
is a threat, you know, our presence there is incredibly important. Again, it should be met with some
skepticism. So I have more details on this story, but Jank, I wanted to give you an opportunity
to jump in. Yeah. So my summation of the stories, I don't believe anyone on either side.
So historically, the Pentagon has drummed up so-called evidence that surprisingly always
leans towards staying somewhere longer or getting into a new conflict. Now, I'm exercising a little
bit of hyperbole there. From time to time, the Pentagon is a little bit more cautious than
someone like Donald Trump, who at times is more reluctant to go to war and at times less
reluctant. And so, but overall, I take what those intelligence agencies say with a grain
of salt. Obviously, they were a disaster during the lead up to the Iraq war. And I think
that our media takes leaks from them or even actual, you know, memos and set up.
that are confirmed as gospel, and I don't think they should.
Now, having said that, of course, I don't believe Donald Trump for a second on anything.
So was he briefed on this?
They swear up and down that he wasn't, McInacheney says it, they all say it.
And they say that the head of the CIA and other national security advisor confirmed that
he wasn't.
I mean, look, even if he was, would he be paying attention?
No one knows, right?
They're saying that he's still not briefed on it.
Meanwhile, Trump is saying that it's fake news.
Well, how do you know it's fake news if you haven't been briefed on it?
So they should make up their mind on whether he has or hasn't been briefed, does or doesn't
know the details of this.
At the same time, would I be surprised if Donald Trump was told about this in one way or another
and didn't do anything about it?
No, I wouldn't be remotely surprised.
I don't think that he would go against Russian interests under penalty of law, quite literally.
And so nearly impossible to make heads or tales out of the story.
But I'll say one more thing about policy.
I want to withdraw from Afghanistan.
I don't know why troops are there sitting like shooting ducks in the first place, right?
And then secondly, yeah, the Taliban and Azana pointed out want to kill us anyway.
And there was earlier reports that the Russians were sneaking in weapons to Afghanistan.
Why would that be an outrage?
I mean, I hate it, and I don't want our troops to get hurt.
But we gave the same guys weapons to fight the Russians when the Russians invaded Afghanistan.
And we brag about it to this day.
Like ha ha, we killed the Russians in there.
We killed their empire because we funded the Mujahideen, this great leader named Osama bin Laden.
That was us.
That's all true, by the way. He was not necessarily the leader of the Mujahideen,
but he was definitely part of the Mujahideen. And yes, we did arm them. So I don't see how we would
be outraged that the Russians are arming the Taliban. So look, I actually want to explore that
a little more because I think that there is important context to be aware of when it comes to
what the intelligence community is alleging. Because ever since the beginning of Donald Trump's
administration, there's been this growing narrative.
about how Russia is working with the Taliban. Russia is arming the Taliban. Russia is funding
them. And so I'm curious, what was the reaction from some of Trump's officials when these
accusations were being made? And there's this really great BBC article. It was written in 2018,
but it has some context that I think people should be aware of. So testifying at a Senate hearing,
BBC writes in May of 2017, U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency Director, Lieutenant General
Vincent Stewart said, quote, I have not seen real physical evidence of weapons or money being
transferred. U.S. Defense Secretary at the time, obviously, James Mattis. I mean, we're talking
about a guy who has never seen a war that he doesn't want to engage in, right? That's why they
named him Mad Dog Mattis. He told the House Armed Services Committee in October of 2017 that he wanted
to see more evidence about the level of Russian support for the Taliban, adding that, quote,
what he had seen, quote, unquote, doesn't make sense. And then finally, NATO Secretary
General Stoltenberg was also on the record in July of 2017, saying we haven't seen any proof,
any confirmed information about that kind of support. So I know that that's testimony from
2017, but I bring that up because these accusations were starting to grow within the intelligence
community as early as 2017. And you have these individuals, some of whom are very hawkish saying,
we haven't really seen evidence of that. I'd like to actually see the evidence before we make
this accusation. And I want to add one thing here, the selective outrage that we have in both
in politics and the media. So let me just clarify the most obvious thing in the world
a second time. I would hate it if the Russians or the Taliban or a combination thereof had
bounties to kill our soldiers. They shouldn't even be there and be in that position. Okay,
now having said that, we, the Saudis, high ranking folks within the Saudi ruling class clearly
funded, and we know for a fact, confirmed from the Pentagon, clearly funded the suiting insurgency
in Iraq during the height of our troubles there.
And so that got hundreds of our troops killed, maybe thousands.
And nobody ever said a peep about the Saudis.
And all these people in the media that are like outraged now about Russia killing possibly
maybe a couple of U.S. troops, eight have died in Afghanistan so far this year.
At most, it looks like the claim is that maybe one was because of the Russians, if any
of it is true, right? But meanwhile, hundreds slaughtered by the Saudis, the media never said
anything under Bush, you know, under any of these presidents. So it's, so we do have to be
careful with the news, because there is a lot of, a ton of agenda driven news, and they're
very selective in what they push forward and what the narratives are.
Well, I think we should be a little concerned about some of the professional stenographers
who basically pose around as journalists, right? Having people from the intelligence community
come to you with these accusations or with this so-called intel without doing a full
investigation as a journalist before publishing it, I think is a problem. This is the kind of stuff
that got us into the preemptive war in Iraq, right? So that's why I'm kind of asking
people to pause for a second and consider whether your disdain for Trump, and believe me,
I have great disdain for Trump is blinding you to the fact that we're seeing liberals agree
with like the Liz Cheney's of the world and the Mitch McConnell's of the world. And by the way,
a lot of this stuff has not been verified. So for instance, there is some disagreement among
intelligence agencies and I want to share that information with you. So the New York Times reports
that another official said there was broad agreement that the intelligence assessment was accurate
with some complexities because different aspects of the intelligence, including interrogations
and surveillance data, resulted in some differences among agencies and how much confidence
to put in each type. That sounds like a pretty big deal, right? So the way that it's being
talked about on cable news as we speak right now is as if this has been verified, it's been confirmed,
It's absolute truth. And Donald Trump has not confronted Russia about it. Why hasn't he? He
needs to confront them right away. I just saw an interview with Adam Schiff, where he basically
framed things in a no win situation for Trump. Because if the intelligence community
did brief him and he didn't do anything about it, well, he's a bad guy and he should have
confronted Russia right away. If the intelligence community did not brief him on it,
Well, it's because they don't trust that they can come forward to Trump with any type of
anti-Russia intel, right? So, and then at the same time, you have the Mitch McConnell's,
the Lindsey Graham's, you know, these hawkish senators, Republican senators who are egging Trump on
and encouraging him to confront Russia. Do we really agree with that based on what little we know
about the, you know, validity of this reporting? So again, just be careful with what you're watching.
what you're believing. Something stinks with this story, and I just want to be clear about that.
Yeah, and look, funny enough, we're the only ones who actually admit our perspective. We call
ourselves home and progressives. But we're the only ones, I think, that are looking at this
objectively. Everybody else seems to be driven by one agenda or another. And so I think the issue
lies all over the place here. Number one, it could be that the Russians did do this. I don't think
guy would be that surprising. I'm not even sure it would, like I said earlier, I'm not sure how
outrageous it would be. We did it to them. And so I know like we're American exceptionalism,
so we're allowed to kill people at nauseam. But if anybody ever does it to us, we faint outrage.
But should, but is it also possible that Trump did get the briefing? Of course it's possible.
They're pathological liars. And is it possible that he is covering for the Russians? Definitely
possible. And he's covered for them on numerous occasions before. And does it mean that if
he's, you know, that it's, the reporting is true and the Russians did put bounties on our
troops heads, that we then need to take action? Well, hold on. What does action mean? If it's
proportional, it's sanctions, it's something economic, you know, okay, I hear that out.
If it's to say, oh, well now, okay, since the Russians took action, we should take action by
bombing them or attacking them, well, that's mental. I don't agree with that at all, right?
So it totally depends on what you mean by action. So this is a very complicated story and
and there are liars all around it. Yeah. And one thing, one other thing that I found curious
about it, and I want to reset for this portion of the story, was just how quickly the Lincoln
project, which again is run by hawkish Republicans, had an ad ready to,
attack Trump. So let's talk about that real quick. So the Lincoln project, the Lincoln project
consists of never Trump Republicans, many of whom are very much in favor of engaging in all sorts
of wars abroad. Many of them were supportive of the war in Iraq. These are people who are not
progressives. They're not even liberals, but they do hate Trump. Now I bring this up because as soon
as the New York Times published an article, essentially sharing what the Intel community says
is evidence that Russia was paying the Taliban a bounty for US troops in Afghanistan.
All of a sudden, you have this highly produced ad ready to go by the Lincoln Project to attack
Donald Trump for failing to do anything about it, failing to confront Russia. I want to show you
you that ad, and then we'll discuss.
In the last year, flag-drink coffins have returned from Afghanistan.
Now we know Vladimir Putin pays a bounty for the murder of American soldiers.
Donald Trump knows too and does nothing. Putin pays the Taliban cash.
to slaughter our men and women in uniform.
And Trump is silent, weak, control.
Instead of condemnation, he insists Russia be treated as our equal.
Instead of retaliation, he invites Putin to America.
When Trump tells you he stands by the troops, he's right.
Just not our troops.
Look, Chang, I will say it is fascinating to see, you know, just that very pro-conflict messaging
and how it seems to be supported by people on the left. I'm not talking about leftists,
I'm talking about Democratic voters who absolutely hate Trump, and I get it, I hate Trump,
but just automatically latching onto this messaging by right wingers who have a vested interest
in conflict abroad. It's just, we just need to be careful. That's all I'm saying. And by the way,
the Lincoln Project, we've given them credit because they're Republicans and Republicans know
how to put together effective ads. They're vicious. And when it comes to Trump, I enjoy the
viciousness. But at the same time, you do have to take a step back and realize that just recently
the Lincoln Project was like boasting a picture of Dick Cheney wearing a mask. Like,
Look at Dick Cheney, what a hero. He's really sticking it to Trump by wearing a mask.
And I'm like, oh yeah, Lincoln Project. Don't really like those people, like some of their
ads, but don't like the people. Yeah. Well, it's possible that here comes the turn. And so
beware of neocons bearing gifts. So no, Dick Cheney is not part of the resistance. And if he is,
Well, then it means nothing at all. So yes, they have vicious ads because they're Republicans,
and we appreciate that. Wouldn't it be amazing if Democrats did something vicious to Republicans
as opposed to progressives? When they're up against progressives, they'll lie, they'll smear,
they'll attack, they'll be absolutely ferocious against Republicans. They're like,
oh, please other Republicans help us, we don't know how to do ads. They can project, please help,
Right, so now Lincoln Project staffed by some little worse people in the establishment.
Yes, I've enjoyed their ads. I even enjoyed that as a form of entertainment.
But two things to look out for in that ad. Number one, Putin killed our troops is not confirmed.
Trump knew about it is not confirmed. If you had me put down a bet, I would bet that Trump did
know about it, but it's not confirmed.
And then more importantly, in the middle there they go, and he did nothing to retaliate,
a reference to retaliation.
Not good.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
It's one thing when you're putting out devastating ads showing Donald Trump's weakness.
And I'm in a unique situation here.
I'm in none of the camps.
I think that Trump did collude with the Russians, but not about the election.
not about the election. I think that he has financial ties to them. He always has. I think he's
totally controlled by the Russians, but not in any way that Rachel Matto or MSNBC has said,
or Adam Schiff has said. And it drives me nuts that they will not look into Deutsche Bank and the
money that Trump has taken from the Russians. But the new BMO, V-I-Porter MasterCard is your

So I wouldn't be surprised at all that he heard the news, and he's like,
troops I don't remember about our troops I care about my boss Putin.
But that hasn't been confirmed in this case.
And even if it were confirmed, would I mean,
favor of retaliation? Well, it depends on what you mean. They're neocons. Retaliate against
Russia? One of the biggest nuclear powers on the planet, how, right? We'd have to be extraordinarily
careful about that. It's not to say that you do nothing, but I certainly wouldn't trust the
neocons to get that balanced right. In fact, I wouldn't want them anywhere near that decision.
And this is such a perfect way to frame foreign policy at a time when there's a growing number
of people who are demanding not only to defund the police, but to defund the Pentagon, because oftentimes
a lot of the military weaponry that the Pentagon acquires through private contractors ends up
getting transferred over to local police departments. And oh wow, would you look at this?
Now you have Mitch McConnell seizing on this opportunity to say that we need to protect
the resources that are available to the Pentagon. In a statement in response to question, Senator
Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority leader, said he had long warned about Russia's work
to undermine American interests in the Middle East and Southwest Asia, and noted that he wrote
an amendment last year rebuking Trump's withdrawal of forces from Syria and Afghanistan.
And he also wrote the following. The United States needs to prioritize defense resources,
maintain a sufficient regional military presence, and continue to impose serious consequences on those
to threaten us and our allies, like our strikes in Syria and Afghanistan against ISIS,
the Taliban, and Russian mercenary forces that threatened our partners.
So just be aware.
Yeah, so look, one thing that the Republicans never co-signed on to with Donald Trump's
agenda was Trump at least pretended to be against wars in the Middle East and aggressive
wars overall. We don't really believe that that's necessarily the case given his actions.
But Mitch McConnell, the neocons, the rest of the Republican Party never agreed to that.
They love war, they can't get enough of war.
So that's partly what I mean by here comes the turn.
It's not just the Lincoln Project turning towards their actual agenda, but it's the Republican
party now beginning to turn towards their agenda.
As soon as Trump has gone, we're gonna go back to over the top war mongering.
And we're gonna do it not in the haphazard, ridiculous way that Trump is done.
But systematically go back to lying about intelligence, provoking our people in all across
the world, and try to build up a case for unnecessary wars.
That is what the Republican Party is.
It's at the very core of the Republican Party, and it looks like that's exactly what they're
going back to.
All right, well, when we come back from the break, I will share some news about a pharmaceutical
drug that has proven to have some success for coronavirus patients.
Only problem is we're in the United States, where, um, you know, health care is considered
a commodity, not, not a human right.
So, uh, some people might not even be able to afford it.
We'll be back with that and more.
We need to talk about a relatively new show called Un-Fing the Republic or UNFTR.
As a young Turks fan, you already know that the government, the media, and corporations
are constantly peddling lies that serve the interests of the rich and power.
But now there's a podcast dedicated to unraveling those lies, debunking the conventional wisdom.
In each episode of Un-B-The-Republic, or UNFTR, the host delves into a different historical episode or topic that's generally misunderstood or purposely obfuscated by the so-called powers that be, featuring in-depth research, razor-sharp commentary, and just the right amount of vulgarity, the UNFTR podcast takes a sledgehammer to what you thought.
thought you knew about some of the nation's most sacred historical cows.
But don't just take my word for it.
The New York Times described UNFTR as consistently compelling and educational,
aiming to challenge conventional wisdom and upend the historical narratives that were taught in school.
For as the great philosopher Yoda once put it,
You must not learn what you have learned.
And that's true whether you're in Jedi training or you're uprooting and exposing all the propaganda and disinformation
you've been fed over the course of your lifetime.
So search for UNFDR in your podcast app today
and get ready to get informed, angered, and entertained,
all at the same time.
After the break.
All right, back, hi-in-N-N-N-A with you guys.
So, first of all, aspiration.com slash t-y-t.
I know what you're thinking.
Hey, Jank, doesn't that mean win-win?
Yes, it does.
does, because in this case, fossil fuel free deposits, that's a tongue twister.
It's not going to go to any pipelines or literally, anything like that, any money you put in there.
Super easy to use, great rates.
On top of that, every time you sign up for an account, they slash we plant trees.
There's a whole TYT forest.
We're going to make graphics, it's going to be amazing.
But I'm not kidding, close to 30,000 trees we've already planted.
And when you use their cards, that also plants more trees if you sewed.
more trees if you so choose, aspiration.com slash TYT. Before I go to your member comments,
which I love. In fact, I'll go to one here and then we'll go to the thermometer.
And as Margarita Salt writes in, and I saw you the other day when I was doing a YouTube live
video too, thank you. I just got back for my long work walk. I do on my days off from work.
I got in 23,000 steps. I decided that when they go over 20,000 steps, they're going to donate
something to IT. And today's $127. I love it. Thank you so much.
much, saying, well, because I love TYT and all involved, the crew, the on camera folks,
those behind the scenes, and all my fellow supporters, truth and reporting is sadly lacking
the mainstream.
We need TYT, we are TYT, that's 100%, right?
I love that.
Brett, let me see the thermometer, let's see where we are.
We were trying to get to 200,000 for this month, and we were very far from it.
And this is the month, and June is almost done.
Did we get there?
No, it looks like we don't have the thermal.
I don't know how you guys do that every month.
I really don't.
We're gonna miss it one of these months, but $203,600, by the way, it gets carried
over to next month.
So if it goes to 5,000, 10,000, et cetera, above, it just gets carried over, makes next month
easier.
So thank you guys, let's keep it going if we can at t.y.com slash go.
And then last couple of comments here, I always say that.
And he says, damn, Anna, that is an incredibly good point. I hadn't thought of that,
and that is why I loved TYD. Of course, the CIA wouldn't hesitate to fake evidence that changed
public opinion regarding troop withdrawal. And of course, as the election gets closer,
they're more motivated to set the stage, no matter what happens. And then Mr. Bikation writes,
Jake's white shirt is the elephant in the room.
Is it?
Is it?
Okay.
I love this shirt, by the way.
Ron Thompson, they were wonderful to me.
And that jacket that I love is also from them.
You should check them out there in LA.
But I swear, it's funny you said that because literally right before the show started,
I wrote down Ron Thompson white shirts.
I got to get more of these because I love these.
And I only have one because I'm cheap.
Vernon Parker, YouTube Super Chat, saying it's not letting me purchase the blue TYT
sweater hoodie.
I don't know what it is and what you're referring to, but I guarantee you shoptyt.com
will let you purchase anything.
Okay, shoptyty.com.
And then the last one is Ryan L says, I live in Colorado, roaming off yard signs everywhere.
I've never seen someone I want to splash with frackwater more than John Flippin'Flipper.
Come on, we gotta beat Frankenloper tomorrow, we've got to. Find someone you know in Colorado.
And in fact, I felt the same thing, and I remember my sister-in-law lives there, find someone
in Colorado and make sure they go out and vote for Romanov. All right, Anna, go.
Okay, well, we have some updates on coronavirus. Americans will be paying 30% more for
Gilead Pharmaceuticals Coronavirus Treatment, also known as Remdesivir, even though tens of millions of dollars
in US taxpayer money has actually gone toward the research and development of this drug.
Now, Remdesivir will cost $3,120 for a typical US patient with commercial insurance. So that means
that the full treatment will cost that much. Insurance will be billed. And depending on what your
deductible is, you will pay that amount out of pocket, right? If you have no deductible,
You won't pay out of pocket. If you have a giant deductible, you absolutely will pay out of pocket.
And what's worse is if you have no health insurance at all, if you happen to be one of the
tens of millions of Americans who was laid off during the pandemic and you lost your health
insurance as a result of that and can't afford to just buy insurance on your own for obvious
reasons, well, then you're expected to foot the bill. Now the drug maker said that it will
sell Remdesivir for $390 per vial to governments of developed countries around the world,
and the price for U.S. private insurance companies will stand at $520 per vial. In the U.S.,
that means Gilead will charge a lower price for government programs like Medicare and a higher
price for privately insured people. Seems like there's an upside to having government health
care like Medicare, right? But anyway, I do want to just quickly go to
a video of the Gilead CEO who was asked, why is it that U.S. citizens are going to be charged
30% more for this drug? Take a look.
Tell us about your decision to set the list price 30% higher for U.S. insurers than for
government payers. Some are pointing out that U.S. taxpayers helped fund the NIH trial
supporting the data behind Remdesivir's approval or emergency use authorization. Why set it 30% higher?
for U.S. insurance companies.
Right.
So for everybody's knowledge,
for every medicine in the United States,
there are always two prices.
There's a government price,
and then there's a price for private insurers.
That's part of the system in the United States,
which allows for required and expected discounts
to the government off of every medicine accordingly.
What I want to assure you, Meg,
is that at both of those prices,
we focused on making sure that all patients would have,
have access. And based upon, you know, this price level, based upon the immediate savings
to the health care system that this medicine provides, based upon programs from the government,
whether you're covered by a private insurer, whether you're covered by a government insurer,
whether you're uninsured with COVID-19, there will not be an issue with access for remdissevere.
Now, sounds like our health care system is trash, because his answer to that was, well,
this is just how our healthcare system is set up.
You know, there's a discount for Medicare and for everyone else, they can go F off.
No, no, no, but we've made it affordable for everyone, even if you don't have insurance.
So in a country where nearly half of Americans cannot afford a $400 emergency, and that was before
the pandemic, before tens of millions of people were laid off or fired from their jobs,
how do you expect them to come up with over $3,000 to pay for a true?
treatment they need in order to survive this virus. It's just ridiculous.
Yeah. So look, we want folks developing good drugs and this looks like it is a good
drugging and is really going to help in recovery from coronavirus. So that's good. And it does
save the hospital's money because on average people leave the hospital four days earlier if they're
on this drug. So no one is against it. Everybody's in favor of it. And we're also in favor of systems
that allow good incentive systems for the drug companies to create these.
But there are a couple of butts here.
First off, if the government participated in help to fund it, well, okay, do we have a part
of the equity of the company or at least that drug?
Is there anything coming back to the taxpayers for that?
Are we getting a heavier discount than other countries that did not fund it?
No, the reality is actually the reverse.
The US government and taxpayers are getting nothing for that drug.
and U.S. consumers and government are being charged more than other countries. And some
of that is understandable. Developing countries would have a very hard time affording this,
and they need it to save lives. And that's important and moral. But the reality is that the
company still makes profits, even at the price that they charge developing countries.
So they would still make a profit if they charge that here. It's just that our government
is really bought and owned by corporations. So they set the laws in a way that gives drug companies
sometimes as much as 12 year patents, that's a monopoly where no one is allowed to compete with
them. They say outrageous things like you can't negotiate the drug prices. The government is
not allowed to negotiate drug prices. It's illegal, which is unbelievable. No other government
does that, and that's because we allow legalized bribery in this country. And then finally,
if you're out there and you're saying, well, at least I'm covered. He said I'm covered
no matter what. Not exactly. If you're middle class, for example, and you have health
insurance, it might come out of your deductible, in which case you have to pay thousands
of thousands of dollars for this. Yeah, that's exactly right. And just to give you some numbers
in terms of how much taxpayers have contributed to the research and development of this drug,
Based on research by public citizen, it's estimated that US taxpayers contributed $70.5 million
to remdesivir research and development overall. And keep in mind that the number that I shared with
you all be $3,120 for the treatment is only if you are in need of a five-day treatment. Let's say
you actually need longer treatment, a 10-day treatment. It would actually cost the government $4,290 per patient,
But it would charge US citizens $5,720 if you have private insurance or no insurance at all.
So this can cause absolute financial devastation for so many people. And again,
we have insane numbers of unemployed people right now because of all these businesses
shutting down. A lot of states have decided that they're going to shut down their economy
again following a surge in new coronavirus cases, many as 14 states have reversed their reopening
plans. So more people are likely to remain jobless or even end up jobless if they haven't been
already. This is a system that's broken. And if this pandemic isn't enough to persuade
people that we need a single payer healthcare system, I don't know what will. I mean,
you have the CEO of Gilead making it abundantly clear in that interview that the
government provided healthcare, Medicare in this case, gets a deal. So imagine if we had Medicare
for all, and they had no choice, but to lower the prices to something reasonable for a single
pair of health care system. Yeah. So anyway. Yeah, last thing here, look, I'm not interested
in any of that's unfair. And if the government put in 70 million, and Gilead's telling the truth
that they overall, they spent about a billion dollars developing this, but then the government
equity would be relatively small. But good, at least let's do that. And let's acknowledge
to government scientists who worked on the patent.
And then in terms of the price gaugging or not, the market thought it wasn't enough.
They only went up 1% on this announcement.
So apparently the market thought they should have gouged more.
And so in terms of Medicare for all, he just made the best case you could have for Medicare
for all.
This would cost the country billions of dollars less if we had Medicare for everyone instead
of for people above the age of 65.
So even in a system where the government is not allowed to do.
negotiate drug prices, the government still does better than private insurance. And we could
save tons of money while still leaving profit for Gilead to develop drugs like this and be rewarded
by the system. All right, we're gonna take a quick break when we come back. The gun nuts that
everyone's talking about in the news today, they're in St. Louis, brandishing weapons illegally.
We'll discuss that and more when we return. At TYT, we frequently talk about all the ways that big

All right, back in a young church, Jake and Anna with you guys.
Wonderful comments here.
So I want to read of theater goddess in the member section says, you know, there's some
serious donors who wait until the end of the month to decide how much to give both to make
sure we make our goal and to watch Jenks sweat.
Although everyone appreciates the visual of me sweating, A, don't do that and B, I don't
believe that that's necessarily true, okay, I haven't seen that.
But what I do see is all of you guys, I now have access to the backstage.
of Act Blue, and so I can see all your names.
I'm not gonna read out last names or where you're from in case you want to protect your
identity. But I see Fottie gave 10 bucks, Betty gave three bucks. And then Andrew Jubar and
Allen, you guys are all getting the press on t-shirts with a great TYT logo on him,
because you gave 127. Anyway, bottom line, I love all of you and we cherish all of you.
Jess writes in, my childhood friend was diagnosed with coronavirus and even more devastating. She does not have
health care insurance. I've been making her and her family meals and dropping them off for free
of any contact. She happened to believe COVID-19 wasn't easily transmitted. It was no different
from the flu, even though I attempt to sway her with facts. I feel it's more important to show
love and compassion rather than throw a few. I told you so's at her. I need to believe,
especially now that love always wins. Well, I hope that's true. But there's a lot that we've
been told by people in charge, including Trump, about coronavirus and coverage in terms
of insurance that is not remotely true.
And finally, on YouTube super chat, Kerberos, roundtable discussion asked, is there a place
I can contact Jank about an interview about his book, Wolfpack, et cetera?
Of course there is.
If you go to our website, t.yt.com, just go to press inquiries and we'll get back to you
and hitman asked, Jake, you once said TYT is the biggest online news show?
Is that still valid?
Do you have data for that?
Yes, we're even bigger now and have a much bigger lead.
We have about five, and this month we might have half a billion views, 500 million views,
all organic.
So you guys are the best of the best.
All right, Anna, what's next?
All right.
A white couple pointed guns at demonstrators in St. Louis who were protesting the mayor's decision
to docks her own residents who support defunding the police.
So this happened in an upscale gated community, it's Central West End neighborhood.
And it all started when the mayor, Linda Crewson, decided to do a Facebook video, which has now been taken down, where she read letters that had been sent to her by people who want to defund the police.
Now, she shared the names of these individuals and also their addresses.
So that, of course, made some of the demonstrators upset and they wanted to protest in front
of the mayor's home.
So the group of at least 500 people was heading toward Mayor Linda Cruzon's home chanting,
resign Linda, take the cops with you.
Resignation demands come after a Facebook live briefing on Friday where she had read the names
and addresses of several residents who wrote letters to the mayor suggesting to defund the police.
Now, since she lives in this gated community, the protesters needed to break through a gate to the gated community in order to get to her home.
And as they were walking by this one giant mansion, they were met with the armed residents of that mansion.
We have a video, which I'm sure many of you have already seen, but for those of you who haven't,
here are the two personal injury attorneys who live in this neighborhood brandishing weapons.
Let's go!
Let's go!
Be moving!
Let's go!
Let's go!
Let's go!
Let's go!
So, Jake, it's important to note that the protesters weren't there for them.
They were there for the mayor.
And as you can see, they just wanted to walk by as quickly as possible because of the fact
that they were carrying those weapons.
Now I've seen some people on the right argue that the couple has the right to defend
themselves and defend their property.
But based on how Missouri law is written, even though they live in this gated community, they
They are not allowed to just brandish their weapons outside of their home like that.
That's not considered protected self-defense.
They have to be in their home, there needs to be a threat.
And as you can see in that video, those protesters did not serve as a threat to them.
They served a threat to the protesters.
And in various still images of what happened, you can see the woman in that video with her
hand on the trigger.
And that is terrifying because someone could have really gotten hurt there.
Yeah, and he has a safety off.
So even conservatives were criticizing their gun safety.
So although that it's important to note, Donald Trump retweeted this, and I'm pretty sure
he didn't retweet it saying, hey, can you believe that these guys are doing this to the protesters?
And the protesters were perfectly peaceful.
No, Trump retweeted that thinking, go get him, Brooks brother Ken and trigger finger Karen.
Like I saw this video and picture and thought it was the most absurd thing I have ever seen.
This guy with a semi-automatic weapon in his khakis. They're bare feet, they're nuts,
they got mustard stains all over the shirt, at least Karen does. And I thought it's just so sad.
And Trump looked at it and thought, yeah, go get him. Look, by the way, this is the
the perfect picture. This is America 2020, right? Both in its comedy and its tragedy.
So you like, how many times did we tell you about pitchforks, right? Now, in this case,
the protesters are perfectly peaceful, but here the people are in for other McMansions,
bringing out their weaponry, McMansion, America, weaponry, America, protesters, America,
rich people pointing their weapons carelessly at black people, America. So this is not the America
that I want, but it's the America that exists right now in 2020. And now let me give you,
by the way, it was Colonel Mustard in front of the yard with a handgun. So, except this is not
clue, it's clueless. So let me give you context as to where their house was, how did folks
get in, what does it mean that it's private property? So yes, there is, there is,
Yes, it is a gated community. Yes, it is private. Yes, even the streets are private there.
And a lot of people are asking, how do we have private streets in America? It's a good question.
I don't know if the residents paid for all that or if the government paid for any portion of that, I don't know.
The gate was busted. I don't, we no one knows how it was busted, but it is a logical assumption that then at least the gate was a casualty as the protesters walked in.
You go to the mayor's house, not their house, right? Okay. And I did see the McMansion is the first house.
I'm sorry, I keep calling to McManship.
It's apparently a Renaissance Palazzo style home, I do de glas, okay?
And they even have one of those knights in armor that in the old days when people stormed mansions
like this, the residents would literally hide in the armor, okay?
So they could have chosen to do that.
They even had it available for them.
It's like a safe room of body armor, right?
But they didn't do that, they grabbed their weapons and ran out.
So they of course were like out of a movie, they're like, oh, we could have been killed, throats
cut, and we're sure we saw weapons, there were no weapons.
No weapons at all, no one's ever reported any weapons, by the protesters at least.
And so their house is up first, so I can see why they would have been a little bit more
alarm.
But don't bring out heavy weaponry when you don't see any weaponry, and they weren't coming
for you and they didn't see anything about you.
They were going to the, do you know that the mayor lives down the street?
Obviously the protesters are going to the mayor's house, which they went to and protested
peacefully there as well. But the last thing guys, is this whole going to each other's houses?
It's gonna end very, very poorly, whether you're right wing or left wing. So I kind of hate it,
to be honest. And so I wish we wouldn't go to anybody's house anymore.
It's a disaster waiting to happen, especially in America.
Yeah, well, you know, fish rots from the head down. And anyone in any type of leadership position
shouldn't be doxing private citizens who they disagree with, which is exactly what the mayor did in this
case. By the way, I want to give you the take from Matt Gates, a Republican lawmaker who has
totally spun this in, honestly, it's like it's complete comedy. He says, in Joe Biden's
America, your job is illegal. You are locked in your home. Borders don't exist.
MS-13 lives next door and the police aren't coming when the mob arrives.
This is all of us. And then you post the picture of the couple pointing their weapons at demonstrators.
Cool. Yeah, okay, look, that's this is Republican 101, fear mongering of rich white people.
Oh my God, the blacks are coming, the blacks are coming. And so it's the least surprising thing in the world that Matt Gates said that. He then
went on to say, I also have pets of different colors. I do. I mean, they're not in my house.
But like, but they're, you know, they're friends slash helpers, slash assistance, slash
local pets, but still. Anyways, now back to this case, Missouri. This is the same, what the
St. Louis mayor did in doxing the protesters in the first place. You have to know the context
of it. It's really important. And it's actually unreal outrageous.
After Ferguson, six different protesters that were clearly visible in the protests, including
one that was storing a tear gas canister back at the cops, have been killed, have been found
dead.
Some of them in violent and mysterious ways.
This is the Washington Post, this is no joke, this is absolutely real.
And there's been death threats to almost all the prominent protesters.
One of the leading organizers was a Reverend, he found, they put a snake in his car.
Another leading organizer is Cory Bush, who's actually a Justice Democrat in an election right now.
They shot a bullet through her window, almost hit her 13 year old daughter, and it threatened
her life repeatedly. So we don't know who they are, but there is some sort of insane, they
appears to be, we're not sure. The two of the protesters were shot in the head and then
burned, and then their bodies burned in their car. So this is very mysterious, very serious, very
crazy, okay? And it's definitely happening in St. Louis. We don't know who or if anyone is doing
it. But in that context, for the St. Louis mayor with potential right wing vigilante
murderers out there to docks the protesters, the black protesters is beyond insane. She
should resign immediately. I don't want people going to her house, but I also don't want
her sending implicitly vigilantes to protesters' house, especially in that city. No, that's
one of the most outrageous things I've ever seen. Obviously, there's something very wrong in
St. Louis. So, Jake, let's talk a little bit about what we're going to be discussing in the
post game today. There is a pretty awesome story about growing pressure for Trump to drop out
if he doesn't improve his polling. So we'll discuss that a little bit. And then we'll
We'll discuss Trump basically tweeting out his racism over the weekend, what it means, what
the excuses are coming from his officials, including White House Press Secretary, Kaylee
McEnany, and there's just a bunch of great stuff that we'll discuss.
Okay, so I just want to as quickly as I can go through all the things, because the
post game is going to be massive today.
That story about Trump possibly dropping out is real, whether he's actually going to do it as
a different story. I want to show you the white power video to show you how clear it was
that Trump saw it. So that's all the post game, t.com slash join. If you're watching live
