Hey guys, it's Marie.
Tune in to the Zach Nichols podcast to talk about all to things.
Welcome back to the second installment of the Zach Nichols podcast Lost in New York.
Part two.
And we're here with one of my favorite cast members of all time.
Oh my gosh.
Marie Rota.
Round of applause.
What is up, guys.
Welcome to New York.
What's up, Marie?
This is a long time coming.
We've had a lot of people say, when's Marie coming on the podcast?
One of the most highly requested, guess.
You're lying to me right now.
Not only by me, because I've been saying,
like, I need Maria on the show.
And we've been asking for a while, but, you know, with child, it's hard to get into Michigan.
So we came to you.
Love it.
I'm so excited to chat.
Yeah.
Speaking of, how is being a mom?
Being a mom has been the greatest blessing of my life, honestly.
I'm someone that, like, I'm my best self when I'm helping other people.
In fact, I think you can talk about the challenge in that way.
Like, individual challenges, I don't give a fuck.
That's true.
But if somebody else is depending on me, like, I, I,
I try to at least show up.
So it's just,
it's been wonderful.
Yeah. Well, she's a beautiful, beautiful girl.
Stunning young lady.
Great work there.
What was she for Halloween?
She was an astronaut.
And that's why you were the rocket ship.
Yes, yes, that is why.
You were, well, to put, I mean, that's a Devin terminology.
You are an absolute rocket.
So it's very appropriate that you were a rocket ship.
And remember, remind me her name?
Margo.
Big shout out to Margo.
Was that because of Margo Robbie?
No, and it's really annoying.
Well, actually.
She got a vis right away.
I know.
I'll tell you what's annoying about it.
is that, like, I decided on Margo prior to Barbie coming out.
Oh.
And then Barbie came out, and there was just Margo's everywhere.
Yeah.
Well, nobody knew you were pregnant.
It was just, like, all of a sudden, you made a post about your baby shower.
And I was like, holy shit.
I was actually going to post it after I gave birth.
Yeah.
But there were so many, like, reality stars coming to my baby shower that I was like,
oh, this is going to be so annoying if I have to be like, don't put it up, you know.
Right, right.
Well, huge blessing.
And I can't wait to talk about that more.
Do you want to highlight some stats, some...
Yeah, let's hear them.
Some accomplishments we've done five challenge seasons.
You've been to a final.
Final reckoning was something that, you know,
there's some people on the show right now that have never been to a final.
That is true.
And my final had wine.
Yeah, you set a record with the first person in a challenge final to have wine.
That had to be for me.
That's classic.
Oh, definitely.
They knew you guys weren't standing on that thing for very long.
Nope.
You guys actually...
navigated yourselves through that challenge very well because you didn't really have many alliances.
And the ones you did have were like, you guys worked with Johnny and Tony and Shane for a little bit.
I mean, you worked with us, but like we really didn't work with anyone because we were so dysfunctional.
Yeah.
But I think, I think Carr and I were probably closest to how you and Amanda were playing like two sides.
Yeah, but Carl really didn't have anyone.
No, no.
No.
So that's a recurring theme, I guess.
right car not having anything now i wonder why no that was a that was actually probably that was a fun
season though i had fun there for a while until i broke my face yep so um but yeah you also got head
butted there as well yeah i did honestly though like i kind of i pushed her first we'll get into
everything in detail uh we do have some elimination wins five seasons though yeah that's not nearly
enough. I feel like you did. First of all, it seems like you did way more.
Doesn't it? But you did take a long break after your first one. I did.
Which is always good to take a break if you don't feel, because you went right from St. Thomas
right into battle the seasons. Yeah. And got thrown into the mix pretty quickly. Are we just
going to jump into this? Yeah. Let's talk about the career. Talk about it. I mean, so for me,
I went on the real world and then we got home and they called us within two weeks and asked us to go on
the next town show. My show didn't even air yet.
You know, so I'm showing up to the airport, like, somewhat of a fan.
You know, I've seen all these people on TV.
In fact.
Yeah, tell the story.
I've told it, but I want to confirm so people don't think I'm a liar.
Okay.
So I was in the finals for San Diego.
San Diego.
B2S.
That's right.
Yeah.
I've heard his side of it.
Let me hear from you.
They chose the other blonde over me.
Could you imagine if it would have been me, though, the chaos?
That would have been amazing.
Yeah.
It'd a lot more fun.
Sam, Frank, like.
Knowing what you know now, like, how do you think you mesh in that San,
Diego house. Oh my God, it would have been a whole different season just in one
cast. Well, I mean, we talked a little bit about Ashley and her dynamic in that house,
but I think like it would have been a little spicy had you been in there. A little spicy. Yeah.
Yeah. So go ahead. We were at the final interview for that and they take you to a psych exam.
They take you to a medical exam. And like I said, I showed up with my PA and I walked into,
I think it was the physical, the doctor. And Marie and I were standing like face to face. And
both PA's like freaked out and they took me into a different room and then I ended up going to
my physical and when I came out of my physical a whole new PA was there like that person got
fired on the spot yeah and so when I show up to the airport I was like I feel like I know her I feel
like I've met her before and I hadn't met her but we had like we just like stared at each other like
we're not supposed to be seeing each other right yeah looking back on it do you think that's the
exact reason why you didn't get cast for San Diego that Ashley would no that that you saw Zach in the
hallway or whatever that would be a silly reason not to
as someone.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Honestly,
they just went
with the hotter blonde,
but sometimes it doesn't
work out.
Speak for yourself.
No,
honestly,
back then it was definitely,
it was definitely a hard blonde.
No,
that would have changed
the dynamic of our house
100%.
Yeah.
Like,
it would have changed
my whole personality
on that show,
obviously.
It would have
changed things up
a little bit.
I wouldn't have
been able to
just hide out
in a room all there.
And you were coming
off of such a hot season
from Vegas.
Like,
I feel like Vegas
really kind of
brought the real world
back.
Oh, for sure.
And then...
That's like probably one of the, that was one of the better seasons later in the series.
Yeah, I mean, we're talking about it now, but like, why do you think, because like, I feel like your guys' era was so big.
Like, why do you think the real world is not a thing anymore?
Because no one's real anymore.
Keep it 100.
No, literally.
You can't find people that just want to go on the real world for just the, just to learn and grow and the experience.
It's more about now social media clicks.
Like, you see it with these, like, Big Brother shows.
Like, they get off a Big Brother and all of a sudden.
through like celebrities.
They spend like a month in LA just posting selfies and TikTok videos.
No job to go back to jumping couches.
Yeah.
And on real world, you literally spend money to be there.
Like you get like $400 a week and that's for everything.
Yeah.
And then they give you a thousand dollars at the end of it.
Like, oh here, we saved this for you.
And you're like, oh, cool.
I spent 10 grand just to be here.
So thanks for that.
And I was in St.
Thomas.
So like everything was more expensive because they had to obviously like ship stuff
into the island.
And on top of that, there was no like bar.
is there that were like excited to have us you know like yeah they're making money off the of the uh
sometimes those more tourist yeah those tropical uh locations aren't better for sure well you guys
are on your own island so to go anywhere st thomas had to get on a puddle jumper to like go back
like because they were on their own little island off the cut so they had to hop onto a boat just to
get to like the main strip or whatever i don't know anything oh actually i've been to st thomas
so you're just remembered um you do have some elimination wins which is more than some people can
day.
And then, yeah, and battle the season.
So your guys' first challenge season was together.
Obviously, you know, we saw him in the interview process.
But what was your first impression of Zach when you first met him?
Well, I blacked out at the airport.
So I showed up as a fan, like I mentioned.
I bought a bottle of Cafe Patron.
Yeah.
Good memory.
I drank the entire thing, basically by myself, I would say.
No, you gave me a shot when I showed up.
You're like, drink this, pussy.
And I was like, all right.
And then so it actually, you were in better shape getting onto that air.
plane than Nani. Nani spent the whole first flight from New York to London in the bathroom,
curled around the toilet thrown up. Poor Nani. And apparently I was in there like straight out of
bridesmaids like, help me, I'm poor, like telling the guy next to him that like I didn't like
the food and he was the chef, like, but I had like I woke up in Turkey essentially, right? Like
I don't remember any of the plane ride and everyone loved me. Including you, you said that you, I reminded
you of your aunt Carol.
Big partier.
Yeah.
She's a big part of her.
And then the rest of the cast for whatever reason
just called me Carol for
like the remainder of the show.
I've been responsible for two of your nicknames.
The nickname man.
You give a lot of people nicknames.
I do and they stick.
Remember I'm final reckoning
I started calling you Marnie when you started that crazy.
Wow, you gave me that?
Yeah, Marnie was mine too.
Wow.
They're good at that.
He is good at that.
He's giving me several and people in my DMs
call me the big.
Fettuccini.
Nice.
Because that's all you ever order is macaroni and cheese
Fettuccini Alfredo.
You know what?
We were supposed to go to Chili's ass night and I was like, you know,
we got to reroute to the Alvgarten.
You were basically in like
the Italian like mecca.
I know.
The me of pasta.
Are you kidding me?
I know.
I need to expand your horizon.
My guy.
I know.
I need a tour guide.
So, you know,
McKenzie was going to have a big shout out to McKenzie
for letting us film in here.
So we're not really lost in New York.
We know where we are.
We know we got we got a little help.
We got a little help.
So, okay.
So yeah.
I mean,
we talked about it a little bit,
but like,
were you a fan of real world going on to it?
Or was it just something that came across?
Because, like,
I love hearing the real world stories.
How you get to cast it for that?
Yeah.
So I would.
